  • In this video I'm going to replace a faulty eMMC memory IC that prevents a Sony TV from powering on.
    You can find the part I used in this store over here:
    www.mjkelectro...
    Since this is my first attempt soldering BGA i want you to be part of it. Maybe i can help someone who has the same problem with the same or a different brand.
    The TV model in this case is btw. a 55" Sony KD-55XE9005, but other models and brands suffer by the same problem.
    Don't be confused since at the end it's not shown how the TV boots into it's OS. I lost some video footage, but the TV works just as it should.
    if you have any questions or suggestions feel free to comment down below.

    You friggen rock! Facing a similar fault with Hisense 55” but not sure if the firmware is available. Factory will not supply it beyond 2 years. Dirty company. I think video is only missing a quick mention of pin #1 position on the bga package. Thanks for sharing.

    Thanks for the video, I was worried that I'd have to reball the chip I bought from mjelectronics, but it looks like it's already got them!

      Yes, just ask him kindly if you need the reballing on the chip, so you don't have to order the stencil.

    First of all, congratulations on the repair.
    I have a question. After cleaning the tin and adding flux to place the MMC I don't see you apply tin again. How is that?
    Greetings.

    After the tsop is replaced netflix doesn't work and you get an error code ui-800-3 and ui-113. I think it has something to do with bytes of information stored on the tsop for the user name and password on the netflix account that can't be transferred to the new tsop. If anyone has and information and would like to chime in on this subject it will be interesting to hear what anyone has to say on this issue 🤔

    As often as these chips seem to fail or go bad, why in the world would the TV manufacturers make this a soldered chip on the board? Why isn't this chip set up as a user/technician replaceable item that can simply be ejected and re-inserted from a slot or socket on the side of the TV? If this is just a MMC (Multi-Media Card) weren't those originally designed to be used as consumer memory/storage cards that you could easily slide in and/or eject from a device? Why can't that same thing be done on TVs then? Wouldn't that cut way down on repair times and costs?

      Probably because it makes them money if you can’t easily replace it as user, I mean hot air soldering isn’t necessarily the hardest thing you could do but it’s also not easy as well

      @@seesikopter I'm sure it has to do with cost of production, too. It's the cheaper way to do it. I'm just saying that it would potentially save a LOT of people a LOT of aggravation, hassle and frustration if that particular part could be easily field replaceable.

    I have an ignition problem, testing all the power supplies and cards, the conclusion is emmc, where I would like to try a reballing first. then if it doesn't work, move on to purchasing an emmc, but I can't understand if I find it already programmed with a default Sony software or it must be programmed. Where can I find the software to insert into emmc? Thanks for your help

    After removing BGA, add flux but then flood area with leaded solder, then wick off.

      Not to mention.. clean that soldering tip if you want heat to transfer correctly. Don't be tight with the braid.. new, clean braid and add flux if you need to. Flux and a clean tip are your friends. Just saying. It works - good job!

    I'm trying to flash a Hisence 65H9EPlus TV, IC is MXIC MX25L1606E, I made the CH341programmer read the file and saved the backup to my desktop, i'm ready to do the flash....
    Question: where do I find the bin file for this model? I just need the last step to complete the flash......

    Is it necessary to program the emmc or is it enough to put a new one?

    • @daxthomson1572
      @daxthomson1572 9 місяців тому

      Yeah I have the same question. I believe so, and unfortunetly I cannot find an EMMC that is programmed for my TV...Unless I buy an entirely new board that includes a working one.

    • @j.rohleder3794
      @j.rohleder3794  9 місяців тому +1

      Yes, you have to program it or get in contact with someone who can program it for you. If you just order the barebone chip nothing will work, because the entire OS for the TV is missing.

    • @seesikopter
      @seesikopter 7 місяців тому

      @@j.rohleder3794 wait so that means the chip when programming gets the TV firmware put on and then u solder it on there and no need to reinstall the TVs OS? I thought you just tell the chip what its gonna be when installed so it properly works and then you flash the software file onto the Device... hm

      @j.rohleder3794  2 роки тому +1

      Thats a nice idea, but i don't think every BGA-153 has the same pinout. If it doesn't, you have to match all data lines, cmd, VCC, ... between your mobile eMMC and the layout of the original TV PCB (just soldering it in place might not work). In addition i'm not sure how much the NAND flash controller of your mobile eMMC differs compared to the original one. I didn't tried it, so i can't help you - sorry.

      No you cant the firmware inside the Phone emmc NAND flash is partitioned for the phone, and there is no firmware for the TV on it so it means it must be erased and reprogrammed, if the chip has the same Pinout and voltage like the original NAND chip

    • @ImranAli-rp4kd
      @ImranAli-rp4kd Рік тому

      You can do that but it needs to be a compatible emmc from your phone, then you need to wipe it and write the firmware and maybe also clean the rpmb which can’t be done on all emmc
