I had this problem with my Samsung 42" LED. I found 2- capacitors on the power board were swelling up at the top. I ordered a bag of 6 capacitors with a slightly higher voltage rating. I removed the swollen ones and soldered in the new ones. It worked! That was 4- years ago, and I still get a good feeling when I think about how I saved my TV from ending up in the trash dump. UA-cam is the best thing for do it yourselfers.

THANK YOU. This video just saved me several hundred dollars and saved the local landfill from yet another old TV set. Your illustration of what bad capacitors look like was especially helpful-it allowed me to correctly identify the two blown capacitors on the power supply circuit board of my 2009 Samsung LN46B750. After literally four dollars at the local electronics supply store and a bit of careful soldering, it works again! Thanks!

I have a samsung UN39EH5003FXZA that shows a standby light when the TV is plugged in, but no functions or lights work. The TV worked fine until I installed a firmware upgrade, when the upgrade was finished the tv turned off and will not turn on.
What do you recommend for trouble-shooting?
    many thanks

I have this exact make and model and originally figured the power board was my issue as l had not a power/standby lite, no leds lighting, no sound/picture, I ordered the power board and just received it today.(great service by the way real fast delivery) Now with the new powerboard in l am seeing the power/standby lite and when it is powered on l get a chime, the LEDs illuminate momentarily and l can see the indicators on the screen but then it shuts off and repeats this every 5 or so seconds. I can see all the led back lites are working but only momentarily. I have just ordered the main board as l am assuming this is the problem now any direction would be appreciated.

Thanks for the video information, really appreciate it. Although it was very informative, I took my LED TV apart (UN50F5500AFXZA) and could not find no capacitor, electrical connection, or anything abnormal from either the main board or power supply board. The next task I will be doing is plugging power and reading voltage out of several components to see if I have power going out to such. Besides this, anything else you recommend?
I am definitely not buying another samsung and or paying for their repair center to fix it. Anything else you can recommend, please do so. Much appreciated; Sal

By the way, the problem with my TV is, I get no screen, the Standby LED does not remain on, when I press remote control, LED blinkers as if receiving signal from the remote control. When I disconnect everything, and only hook the power, the power LED stays on, I turn TV on, it works. But after connecting the rest of the cables and watch TV for a little, after turn it off, it goes back to no-work status and the same thing happens (power LED is off but blinkers when remote control is pressed, TV does not turn on). Hope it makes sense...

Most likely and almost always it's the capacitors in the power supply that go bad. Capacitors tho sometimes they do swell up don't always. I just replaced about 9 capacitors in an amplifier and none were swollen. This is due to Chinese POS capacitors. If you look on the net theres a whole write up about caps and how the Chinese ones are made. They don't use the proper electrolytes internally and in turn they degrade much faster than high quality caps. One thing to note about capacitors is that on the side along with the voltage which can go higher but not lower than stock. Is also the uf or microfarads and also the temperature. The operating temperature that is optimal is 105° temperature. This is due to the fact that that is the operating temperature point where the insides liquify. Or begin to swish around. Being that 105 is the highest they can operate they only come in 105° and 85°. Therefore a 105 cap can run hotter than an 85. This means that it will take much more heat to get the cap to liquify and begin to lose it's value in uf. This also is important because shitty Chinese caps don't have adequate sealing rubber and this causes them to leak and then they permanently lose their value in uf. Causing the issues you guys are having with your tvs. These types of issues don't just plague tvs, they plague anything with a capacitor inside. The reason tvs have this issue is because people leave them on for hours and hours and guess what happens? The caps get hot turn to liquid and lose their value. There's no tv that this won't happen with and personally I've had Samsung tvs that outlasted all others. If you truly don't want this problem with your tv. As soon as you buy it open it up and see what kinda caps are inside. If they are cheap shitty Chinese caps and you can look on the net to see what brands are shit and what ones are good. Replace them as soon as you buy the damn thing. There are other inherent problems with capacitors also that are made wrong. Like the electrolyte has too much water in it which in turn cause corrosion and other issues like leakage sooner than normal. If you replace these caps before this happens even with a much higher voltage you will never and I mean never have these issues. Especially if you replace them with good american made capacitors. Or even good japanese capacitors. There are lots of good caps out there not all american ones are top shelf either. But replacing shit crap caps with high quality caps will save the life of your tv. Caps filter the signal either ac filter frequency or dc filter voltage I believe I can't remember at the moment. And when this no longer happens it can cause other components to begin to fail. Usually semiconductors. And there is no need to replace the entire board. Caps are cheap guys if they have a stripe on one side they are bipolar meaning they have a + and a -. The negative is the stripe side of the cap and on your circuit board is a mark of some sort. To show which side is negative. EVERYTHING EVER MADE HAS SOME SORT OF MARK ON IT DESIGNATING THE NEGATIVE SIDE OF A BIPOLAR CAPACITOR. if there is no mark to designate the negative then there most likely isn't a stripe on the cap. In this case the cap is just an electrolytic capacitor. And there are other types of caps that will work in it's place also. Some are better than the ones they use for tvs. Like polypropylene or mylar. And there's also ways to read these even tho they put the uf in different terms like some will say J on them. Or other letters. But on the net there is a primer or some sort of key as to how to read them. Guys this isn't rocket science, these letters are just like bytes, kilobytes, megabytes, gigabytes etc. Each letter designates either an up or down in values. Usually in decimals. And if you don't know how to read that they have converters that will show you how to do this or what other caps can be used or which ones are good, better or best. A good place to start looking for this type of cap or also a key to look the values up and also calling customer service is PARTS EXPRESS! They have a 1-800 number I believe is 1-800-express. And 24 hour a day customer service that will assist you in making this choice for parts. This shit is so fuckin cheap it's not even funny guys. You can literally replace every cap in your entire tv for prolly 30 bucks. And a new board will run you about 70 to 100 bucks in most cases. Depending on the brand, age and how rare it is. Take the time to buy new caps and try it. The ones I replaced in this amp looked completely normal. But once I got them out you could shake one of them and feel the wrapping junk inside shaking around. That means all the electrolyte is gone. That cap is trash but it's not swelled. I read that this is because the shitty seals they used inside leak when it turned to liquid on the inside. So it's not necessarily that it turns to liquid that makes it bad. It's that it leaks while it's liquid. Now some have to be replaced with the same temperature and I can't remember which ones do and which ones don't off the top of my head. But you know who will know? Parts express customer service. They have knowledgeable sales and service staff that can help you all day long. Take my advice replace the caps and try it even if they don't look bad. The guy saying there are none doesnt know how to identify caps. They come in different packages and different shapes and sizes. And once you've done this once or twice its easy as hell. And your tv will work for years to come. If you replace them when they are new and or put a small fan on the back of the tv to keep it cool so that it doesn't run hot to begin with that tv should last forever. In the electronics world caps are the only item that degrades simply with time. Resistors don't semiconductors don't inductors don't nothing else does besides caps. So if you put some good ones in them when they are still fresh and everything works. Or at least check them to see if they are crapola caps and replace them with good ones. The tv will work forever. Now leds going bad is another story altogether. Leds are just a diode that's also a light. They come on strips on the inside of the tv and can be purchased off eBay in sets for your individual tv. You can make them light up with a 9 volt battery by soldering wires to the tips of the battery and then using the battery to touch the contact points of the leds themselves or the end connection at the start of the strip. Altho the whole strip may not be able to light up with only 9 volts. Best way to do it is by looking which is + on the strip and which is negative on the strip and realizing that positive in on the strip goes to the positive of the first led. Then coming from that same led is the negative on the opposite side Simple. Take the battery and take positive and touch it to positive on the led and the negative to the other side of the led and boom it should light up. Once you Figure out which lights are bad, you can then replace them individually. And you can replace them with anything. Get an led light bulb even if the color is different and they don't look the same they will work. If it's superbowl Sunday and the big tv in the living room is out in a pinch you can replace these with anything that has an led in it. And they are wired in a series. Which means like old Christmas lights when one goes bad they all stop working so you can literally just make a jumper to jump or connect the positive and negative that we're hooked to an led together and it will start working again. Superbowl is back on in 10 minutes. Folks I taught myself this shit by sitting down and thinking about it a little bit. The more you learn about electronics the more you'll realize there's nothing to fear when you have a broken tv set or any electronic device. You can't break it it's already broke. So anything you try is called LEARNING. Sit down and fuckin tear shit open. Im no genius, im just a guy who isn't Afraid to tear the tv, washing machine, telephone, amplifier etc apart to see what the fuck is wrong with it. And eventually you learn that it's not as hard as you thought. House hold electronics steps voltage down because 110 isn't needed in most modern devices. Car electronics step voltage up because when house hold voltage steps down it doesn't usually step down to 12 volts. And see household voltage is fairly steady. Where as a car depends upon the alternator to produce current and if the motors not spinning at 3k rpms then guess what? There not enough voltage. But your house doesn't have that motor to spin that alternator. So it can produce that voltage even steadier when it's stepped down. Every half down in voltage creates a double up in amperage. LEARN!!!!! Rock on people\m/

Today my SAMSUNG would not turn on, even though the standby light was working and it made the turn on chime sound when I was trying to turn it on. It was all due to a defective 1,200uF 25vdc electrolytic capacitor. You could immediately see that the top of the capacitor was bulging. I replaced the capacitor and it was as good as new. Years ago I had random turn on problems with the same TV, but at that time it was due to oxidized connector contacts. All I had to do was unplug and re-plug all of the internal connectors several times, That had fixed the problem by having scraped off the oxidization. Anyhow, this TV has been working now for 11 years and it works just as good as when it was new.

I've used magic power module before and it worked but now there's no power anymore but if I remove the cable connecting to the main board the backlight will start and then if I put it back it won't on. And no standby indicating. Is it that the main board is dead?

I have a Samsung LN-S4051DX that won't power on. It just clicks and has no standby light. I've tested all caps and they are good. And when I test the power board, I am getting overvoltage. Where the 13v pin is, I get 18v until it clicks, then it goes down and comes back up to 18, then repeats over and over. The three 6.4v pins are at correct voltage until the click, then they go down and come back up. And last, the 12v pins all have 26v, then drop down and back up. Board looks good. No burnt spots or cold joints. Sounds like a humming noise coming from transistor the whole time it's plugged in and clicking as well. Any ideas?

My samsung tvs power cuts in and out. The screen flashes then goes black, same with the audio. Both can happen up to 10-20 times per minute. I was told it started after a storm. Lightening maybe?
Just replace the power board you think?

I have a samsung led smart tv un50h6201af with no picture, its has sound and backlight are on i looked at boards and their is no visible damage to the boards. Checked the ribbons to see if any of them was loose and they was not. I checked the fuse to the t con with my craftman multimeter to check the voltage going to t con board and there was no volts or standby volts. Do i replace the power supply board or is their more ways to troubleshoot the tv to get a better diagnosis. I tryed checking the volts to the power supply board but i didnt get a read

Have 2 Samsung UN50ES1650FXZA both with same symptoms. When you plug tv in standby light is solid once power button is pressed light does 2 short blinks, 5 times then stays solid and repeats. Visual inspection of all boards is good. Unplugged main board from PSU LED will come on. Testing plug on PSU to main (5v pins) getting 7 volts but jumps with blink of standby. If I plug tv in and do not press power button standby light will stay solid with screen off, and same plugs shows 0 volts to main.

Hello, After purchasing a new Samsung remote, installing new batteries, and draining the power from both the TV and the remote, the remote still will not power on/off the TV. I tried to use the jog switch to reset the TV, but I need a remote to enter the PIN. Then to make everything worse, I accidentally locked the panel key- now the jog switch is useless. My Samsung LN40D630M3FXZA stop displaying an image, I can
turn the TV on and off and the stand by light stays on and will blink if I press
any buttons on the remote, while the TV is on the screen will flash very dimly.
This started after having a non-powered external USB drive connected
for an hour that had water damaged and wasn’t fully dried. The TV was working
connected to the USB for an hour before it began acting this way.
There doesn’t seem to be any damage components on the Mainboard
and power supply boardDo you think only the Power supply board would be effected?
