Story 2 - sounds like someone needs to go into assisted living, and I don't mean OP.
Story 1: Those people deserved to be homeless in NYC, not spend time in an AirBNB. While I totally understand the need for a deal or to save money on things like this, but if you want to pay less, you have to expect less. They were just clearly trying to screw over the OP here. Im honestly surprised the OP didn't warn other contractors about the antics here, but it looks like he didnt really need to, since the contractors they went with ended up not being very good it sounds like. Good on the OP for not taking the job here.
Story 2: Honestly, if i were the OP, i would tell both the dad and the sister (especially the sister) to rack off. There is absolutely no reason the OP should be treated like this. They are both just taking advantage of the OP here and its wrong. I get wanting to take care of a sick parent, but not if this is the way you are going to be treated.
Story 3: OP is 100% not a jerk here, and i can't see why anyone would think that. The son and DIL both said she could come over anytime, especially in those kinds of circumstances... and then they treat the OP like this when she actually does? And kicks her out in the rain? Gee....thanks! Jerks! If i were the OP, id be limiting contact here without one really good apology.
Story 4: The friend here is a complete dullard. If something was set in stone here and paid for, then i can see it being an inconvienience for the friend here, but since nothing was, then the friend was just being an idiot... and i dont know what ''intelligence' the friend was talking about, since she doesnt have any to insult.

chick in that second story needs to see about putting her dad in a home. I know that's normally an awful thing for a child to do, but there's no good excuse for him treating you that way. If he doesn't like it, too bad. If your sister doesn't like it she can move in with him, and you can take her apartment. either way that nightmare will be over with.
I would just tell him that his care is now his job to figure out, and I will be moving out. OP says he's always been like this.
For Story 2 My dad was doing something similar with my cousin living with his mom and paying him to take care of her and her cat and all he did was play video games instead of taking care of my grandma and her cat. My Grandma was a sweet lady but she and my late grandfather spoiled my dad’s sister when she and my dad’s 2 brothers were growing up. My Grandmother has since died. My Dad eventually moved my grandmother into an Assisted Living home so she could be properly taken care of. My dad changed the Locks and kicked my cousin out and my cousin broke into the house and stole some of my late grandmother’s possessions to buy drugs. He’s now in jail. Am I actually a jerk being happy about my cousin being in jail?

Those people are an increasingly endangered species given a good percentage of building firms have collapsed due to high material costs and overheads.

Story 3: eh seems like a misunderstanding. The son and daughter and law, should have been much more understanding; especially given what they told her.
Story 2: Does anyone else get the vibe that OP is leaving stuff out? I can't put my finger on it, but something seems really off about the story. Yeah, obviously the Dad and sister would be in the wrong based on what OP has said, but also the thing with the dead bugs... OP says one thing about asking their sister for help, but then says something different when sharing what happened when the sister came over. I don't know what to make of it.

OK I have to say with the story of the original poster saying he thought his sons house was an open invitation. I don’t agree with how the sun is acting. That is kind of a really big Erica move the date to his nephew and father. But Innoway, I think they’re OK with them coming over anytime they need to as long as they call first.
Re: Story 1: You are not supposed to give your client the spreadsheet, especially an editable spreadsheet. You should provide your client a non-editable PDF file.
You can get around the uneditable part. It's a hassle, but possible.

Nothing was in writing, no money down, and OP didn’t have the money. A similar situation happened with me and a former friend of mine when I told her I couldn’t make it, despite telling her before “I can’t make any promises.”
