Relearning the parts that I learned the wrong way.

You're welcome!
Glad someone done a lesson with the outro solo! Great work!
Thanks man! I noticed that no other videos touched on it. It's a hard solo to make super exact but hopefully the ideas that I put together help some players out.
@@TimHolman I've never seen anyone have it tabbed out, so thanks a bunch. Was getting ready to relearn FWTBT, so this will be super helpful!

@@TimHolman yeah just finished a good hour or so practice while pausing/replaying this video and it literally feels like I’m “finally” playing a Metallica song, awesome feeling. Thanks again.
You're most welcome my friend!
Fantastic lesson, Tim !! ♫
Thanks Hubert! 🍻
How long does it usually take to create a lesson from scratch? These are some of the most in depth guitar lessons on UA-cam, so it seems like it would take a while. Can't wait for fade to black
Fade to Black will be the next Metallica lesson. The time it takes to make the videos can vary depending on how many riffs are in the song and how intricate it is. The Metallica videos can take anywhere from 30-40 hours and maybe even more. It seems like a lot but consider learning it, transcribing it, recording and editing as well as a few hours of watching live footage to make sure I have as much nailed as possible and even adding the live versions of the sections that they change. It is very time consuming. Thanks for watching and I can't wait to get Fade to Black out for you.
Another great video, Tom! Dang you're the most detailed teacher here ever for everything! I see you play an alternate fingering for Kirks 1st solo, I might try to use that one instead. I didn't realize this song has so much going on and will take longer to learn, wow. Btw, I just left you a comment and question on your creeping death video. I find that 99% of the time, youtubers don't see questions on older videos, something with the algorithm.
Thanks again! Yeah, I know what you're saying about the alternate fingering. I see a lot of people playing it differently. Not to say the other way is wrong because it's the same notes but the way I show it is the way Kirk plays it.
The extra live versions are great, keep it up!
Thanks man! Appreciate it!👍
Thank you very much for your detailed lesson and also for showing how they play it in the studio and live.
You're very welcome!
Good one tim!
Thank RJ! Sorry for being scarce. I have to catch up on what you've been up to.
@@TimHolman no worries.. S'all Good Man.
I love you bro
Metallicas cover on mercyful fate guitar lesson would be awesome
Wherever i may roam pls ! 🤘🙏
Got a few to do before that but I'll be getting to Black Album stuff soon.
Love the vids, any chance you could do ‘am I evil?’
Yeah, I've been thinking about doing that one. Have a couple more to do before it but it won't be too long.
@@TimHolman here for them all
Greath. Disposable Heroes next ? 😉
I've had a lot of requests for fade to black so I'll be doing that one next. Then I can look at disposable heroes. Thanks!
@@TimHolman thank you, I'm looking forward to
Tim..great lesson. What type of guitar are you playing?
Thanks Don! I'm playing a K series custom Kiesel.
i love your guitar and was wondering whats the model-tell us something about your beutiful guitar
Thanks! It's a Kiesel K6. Buckeye Burl top and headstock with a Birsdeye Maple fingerboard completing the look.
Hey Tim, you're an outstanding dude and teacher. Not sure if you mentioned this anywhere, but what distortion settings do you use/recommend for these Metallica tunes? Cheers!
If I was trying to really nail the tone that they used on the album I would scoop the mids more than I do and turn up bass and treble. I would also probably use a bit more distortion. After recording into my DAW I might boost low and high frequencies again with an EQ to get a really scooped sound. However, I just try to get a killer tone so my gain is set at about 7. Mids are also up to 4. Bass is most of the way up but treble is only about 6. I find that tone loses depth if there's too much distortion and it actually sounds huger if I roll it back a bit. The tone on this video is a plug called Black Sun from Audio Assault. When I mic up an amp it's usually a Marshall JVM. I hope this helps some! 🤘🍻
@@TimHolman Thank you so much! 🤘🤘
What finish is it? That finish and wood are beautiful.
Thanks! It's buckeye Burl top and I believe it was called the Black Burst finish. Can't remember though. I'll look into it and edit this response if it's different. It's also a blackened birds eye maple fretboard. Edit: finish is Thin Trans black burst edges with deep binding effect
hey would the outro solo work on a tremolo bridge?
Kirks fill at the beginning is where I struggle. I just get tongue tied if you will, with my brain and fingers. Like I will FIND IT, then lose it. I can't hold that, I get scrambled.
This happens alot to me on songs with stuff like that. BTW I'm 47, and I'm sure my age as a newer guitar player is playing a factor. I'm sure a kid will pick that up no problem lol
I understand what you're saying. There are some licks that seem confusing. After a while though they are less of a problem. It could be muscle memory but it seems like sometimes my inner ear guides my fingers and I don't think too much about the pattern.
I can't wait for welcome home sanitarium
Hopefully coming soon! Fade to Black is coming right up.
Next disposable heroes
isent there harmonic before the kirk lead line part i want to know what those are
Finally someone got the harmony right. Now, at last, I can sleep at night
Haha, thanks man! Glad I could help out with that.
