Greg is the best source of information for anyone who wants to become that one man commercial beekeeping operation. The comments he made on managing your hives are the basis for a successful business. I was there in 2013 with 29 hives, little honey, and a lot of swarms too, but I learned from reliable sources and minimized my investment and maximized the honey produced. Great interview. I had to rewatch it again to glean the info. I agree, 10 well managed hives will outproduce 40 poorly managed hives and the profits is no comparison.

I totally agree with that methodology! I grew up on a commercial chicken farm. We pushed 250,000 birds every 16 weeks and I watched it grow to that size. Growing the logistics, taking it to market and creating your own market in which to move your products. If you can maximize efficiencies in every colony what is the point of having xxx amount if you cannot manage them, feed, and care for them. Question for you Nathan is are you going to keep expanding once you hit your market cap?
I don’t intend to grow for the sake of growth. But if I’m presented with good people who want to work with me then who knows?
@@DuckRiverHoney it’s Always a great day to find good people to work with you. That’s what business is all about, but you can run into some bad eggs as well. Looks like it may be a better spring for me than last year. Keep up the content it’s a great series you are putting together.
I know this has nothing to do with this video but was wondering if you were going to do a video like you have the past two years and go over profits, losses, and expenses for the year?
I’ve been debating it and am a little conflicted. It’s getting to the point that I don’t want to share everything publicly so I could post a watered down version…I’ve also thought of starting a Patreon account and putting that sort of info out in that more semi-private environment.
There is a kid from my high school who was begging to buy some honey from me. He had been using my honey for a long time then it ran out, his Dad bought some honey from the store and it was terrible. He was overjoyed when I brought my honey in for him.

I've enjoyed the series .. that's were I'm at around 200 mostly 8 frame singles right now around 60 big doubles .. we can fill this order for 30k lb order that will get us over the money hump .. hard not to re mortgage the house only owe 26k on it. Better to just sell some nucs then going into debt my son thinks.. he's my partner gotta respect him and his ideas . I need to find place down south I can take down 100 nucs Jan and bring back 500 in April..
Debt is easier to get than to get rid of. It’ll speed up success, and speed up failure.
@@DuckRiverHoney my first wife thought we could barrow ourselves out of debt .. my mom never made over 40k a year retired large 240k in cds over 140 acers of land in 4 different areas of Michigan and 2 houses. It was hard growing up folding card table for dinner table. Literally drove those station wagons till the doors fell off.. but she saved her money keeping a land payment going.. one 80 acres she just had logged off. payed for really nice barn . She's camping and fishing Florida right now.
