5:06 The moment when he actually starts to show it in action. Seems like just about every review on this tool doesn't actually show it in use, which is ridiculous. So I like this video.
Used it for a stuck tote on a handplane, flathead screwdriver bits were just camming out. Picked up one at Lee Valley and worked as shown, like a charm.
Ive always had one of these. I never need it for years, but when i need it, everything else is just a joke. If you must have every advantage, add heat with a propane torch, add a little valve grinding compound in the screw slot for max grab, and at the first sign of the screw releasing, stop, and spray with penetrating oil. If that doest get it out you can weld something onto the screw and twist. If that doesnt get it, they have broken tap disntegrators that will melt out the screw, or even a a broken tap. Run a tap down the hole to clean it up and throw away the old bolt.
3:49 ...This bit taught me that the instructions for my 'Hilka Impact Drive' were actually backwards and I have actually been tightening rather than loosening(!). 5:45 ...This bit taught me that it might take some time for the loosening to occur. Thank you so much!!
Awesome opening Will. It was almost like you were channeling Bruce Campbell. Great video production all around and a very useful tool to have in a man's toolbox.
Watched this at Lowes this morning and completely convinced me that this is the tool I needed for the task at hand! Thank You! Wicked cool intro! Good Job! 👍👍
Old trick is to smack it a couple times in the tighten position to get the screw to move. Don’t ask me why you can’t budge it in reverse but she will move sometimes in the tighten position. Once it moves forward it will move backward. Old saying is if she winks she will. You know.
Try heat too. Sometimes those exhaust bolts can be tricky. Just be careful not to burn yourself or light your car on fire. But this impact tool is great. Good luck - Will
i ordered one of this waiting in the mail. i have a mtb disc rorarty hub i need to remove 6 bolts that are stuck i hope this will do the trick last resort is cut the bolt head off and drill one size bigger and go back down with a helicoil to replace it.
@@Debtfreehomesteaders There is a twist here. I had impact screwdriver sitting on the shelf for years. I was about to use it on carburetor screws ;) - such delicate job. So I did search how to use it. Although I'm not native English speaker it is easier to find relevant video using English not Polish search. Cheers!
@@Debtfreehomesteaders It doesn't look rusted but it's not budging and WD-40 isn't helping. I did try to tap the metal of the screw back down but any further attempts with a regular screw driver will continue to strip the screw head (flat head).
Another idea is air in a can. Used for cleaning dust off of electronics. Turn the can upside down and spray the bolt and it will freeze it causing it to contract. Might be safer then getting the wife's emotions elevated with a blowtorch in the bathroom
@@Debtfreehomesteaders I can try the canned air/cooling option. I can't use heat, it's holding the plastic clip for the toilet seat on to the toilet. I am the lady of the house and I got a few handy traits from my dad... so I take care of all the household and automotive maintenance for our family. I really love it and head to UA-cam to learn new how to's!
@@Debtfreehomesteaders Do you know when they stopped making this particular model, I'm thinking about getting one on eBay, but I'm trying to avoid possible knock off. So knowing when they discontinued this model may help me be able to select one wisely. Amazon has a problem with people selling plenty of knockoff also. So that's why I'm trying eBay. I would prefer to get it used, that way I know it's more of a chance of it being genuine. But I'll see. Let me know. This is the same tactic I had to use when looking for the Gator grip socket attachment, there is an abundance of knockoff being sold on eBay of this particular tool I just mentioned.
@@REXXSEVEN it's been a while now since craftman made it. I need to buy a couple off Amazon and see the build quality for myself too. Things dont seem to be built like they used too. -Will
