It is such a damn shame that we no longer have bands like this, singers like her, and songs like this. The 80's were musically awesome. Today's "music" and "bands" absolutely suck.
No one makes music like that anymore, but from what I have seen of her live performances in the last couple years, she is just as good as she was years ago, and she definately has a following out there!
I was almost 9 when this aired , I loved the 80s, I was just too young to enjoy them, having been born in 76',,,, I always believed I was born 10 yrs too late, for the people who entered their teens in the early 80s, they lived through one of the best decades ever at the right age
Absolutely! I was born in December 1966 so I know exactly what you are talking about! I was a teen and in my early twenties in the 80's! The music was awesome! I clearly remember first watching MTV in 1981! I went to a lot of concerts back then too The GO-GO'S, Men At Work, A Flock of Seagulls, Culture Club, Pat Benatar, Blondie, Cyndi Lauper, The Bangles, Human League, Stevie Nicks and yes Scandal!
I was 13 years old when this song came out. I'm 52 now, and Patty Smyth still gives me goosebumps. I would have NEVER admitted it back then because I was a punk rock kid, but this song was (still is) awesome. I had this album on cassette and I took my Walkman with me to Desert Shield. This was one of the 17 songs that I had had recorded on a tape, that I listened to every chance I got while baking to death in the Saudi Arabian desert, waiting for my chance to go into Kuwait and kill Iraqis.
@bongodave13 Oh for fucks sake. Why did you have to politicize something as innocuous as this song? I don't recall asking for opinions regarding war, of those who never saw a day of combat in their lives. Just shut the fukk up and take your lack of experience in Desert Storm to new lows somewhere else. Go on...beat it. Get
I used to dream about her. Then I found out John Macenroe landed her. I was like How does a jerk like that get such a woman. Then I found out he is like good friends with Chrissy Hynde of the Pretenders." I really hate that Man"
I was in my 20s in the 80s. I hitchhiked. I went to nightclubs. I was a Deadhead. I went to college. I got laid an insane amount. I did drugs you can't even find today. Fascism was still creeping at the time. Now, it's charging. Vote blue all down the ticket.
I wish they could remaster or restore the picture and video quality of this great moment from New Years ‘85. One of the best times growing up in the 80s.
I remember that time very well. We are so lucky to have grown up in the decade of awesomeness. Things will never be that good again for any generation.
I was 13 when this song came out. RATT, MOTLEY CRUE and SCANDAL were and still is my jammin' music. I miss the 80s so fuckin bad. Need a time machine folks!! Let's go back.
I saw her and Scandal at the Mississippi Gulf Coast Coliseum around '86 or '87. When they started playing this song, I thought the whole coliseum was going to collapse from the roar of the crowd! 80's music still rules!
I was only born 2.5 months ago :-0 wow....(sept 85) i miss these days of the 80's. Things were som simple back then and not has much technology to confuse ppl of their walk in life... Now its all about looking fancy on facebook.... God i wish i could go back in time for one day just to live those happy days with my wonderful grandparents
If u think about it... Isnt it amazing how we can remember things from over 30 years ago crystal clear? Our brain is wired so amazingly by god... He knew what he was doing, thats for sure!
I was 16 when I first heard The Warrior during this event. I became an instant fan and bought the cassette album. I still have it, albeit later bought the CD and currently mp3.
Iwas going through the hardest time in my 19 year old life when this song was be played all the time on the radio in brooklyn ny im a woman incase you saw the pic that my husband i still cant talk about what me and my husband went through we were married almost two years and had our son but he broke my heart in a way that took years to recover sorry this is do long but for a long time i couldnt listen to it until i was in my early forties and realized i wasnt weak i was strong a warrior and now i listen and feel proud of myself for being strong enough to go through that at such a tender age
My favourite song since 1985. First time I heard this song in polish tv program called "WIDEOTEKA" hosted by Krzysztof Szefczyk in the summer 1985. I felt like enchanted watching and hearing this song. :))
I was in first grade when this new years countdown aired. I knew this song but I was too young to enjoy. And I eventually loved this song growing up. Patty Smyth rocks, her goth outfit is very cool
Just discovered this song a couple of days ago. Absolutely suh-mokin' in every aspect. Patty is the Complete Package; looks, charisma and a really great voice. One wailin' babe. The band is tight, lean and driving. Somebody below says this was "clearly" dubbed over but I'm not so sure about that. The drummer is definitely hitting his cymbals and Patty is grooving, her whole body is vibrating with the rhythm/beat. Guitar players look like they're really playing too. I played country rock out in Vegas in the late 70s and early 80s. This kind of New Wave was just coming in strong when I left. So much life and drive in this genre.
victor carjan It's one more thing to love. Sure, an ugly person can be a great singer, a great musician, and even a great showman, but if you were going to make the perfect singer in a lab, would you intentionally choose to make him/her ugly? When a performer goes on stage, do they dress and apply makeup to look better, or do they make themselves look ugly? Except for Marilyn Manson, who does that?
Clearly dubbed over the recorded version, which was SOP for actual live TV in the 1980s due to the potential for unexpected screwups. Still, it is fun to see the band play and act it out; and the song is just dynamite, probably their best number ever. PS's makeup makes her look like Shona Liang in 'Shaker Run' :)
what a stunner. this song still resonates today and she can still deliver the song with credibility and nail the notes. Slightly bluesy tone nowadays, which almost works better.
When I was younger I always wished I'd get older faster. Now that I'm older I miss those days in the 80's and wish I was young again.
Same here 👍
Ikr. I'm 46 and though i'm blessed to be so,I certainly feel it, and miss my younger days.

@@bongodave13 True.
I’m sure that was a time to tell
I'll never forget standing five feet in front of her watching her sing this song in a small club in The Village in NYC a lifetime ago.
Awesome!
Lifetime memory. So Awesome!

Born in 74 here.

My God that woman is beautiful.
Celestial Scripture. yes she is. i grow up listening her.
Celestial Scripture bet u didnt know she use to be a fashion model for wrangler and lee back then!!
Celestial Scripture i think shes 22 here?? Give or take 5 years maybe
Assuming its 1985, and its clearly 31st of December, her birth month is June, so in this concert she's 27
I used to dream about her. Then I found out John Macenroe landed her. I was like How does a jerk like that get such a woman. Then I found out he is like good friends with Chrissy Hynde of the Pretenders." I really hate that Man"
I'm 53 and it is one of favorites. I miss the 80s so bad. It makes me sad and happy for those times
They dressed real hip back in the 80's. They had style back then.
Patty Smyth in all her Glory! She was so beautiful back then and her voice was amazing!
Patty was a true rocker
She is STILL a force. She has new music out..and its GOOD!
She's aged gracefully and has a voice that still resonates with power. Patty's a gem who's still rocking!
@@Masternecron247 Aging gracefully is the best way to do it.
Watching this Live when it aired I was @ 23..We Rocked Out Huge !!! New Years Party...Patty was the shit with Scandal..How Lucky was I !!!! ;-}
lol my dad was born in 66 and he said the 80's were awsome, the best times of his life happened to him in the 80's

What a performance. Brings back memories.
One of the most dynamic and captivating performances I've ever seen
One of my favorites from this great band......absolutely adore Patty..............McEnroe is a lucky guy!
Man, I sure did love roller skating to this song in the 80’s.
I would have loved to see her in person!!!!

You mean, you really missed the 80s!
Yes you did.
By a country mile.
Me too🇧🇷
I was in my 20s in the 80s.

Wow! I had the biggest crush on her back in the 80's.
I could feel the magic in the air through the screen.
Wow! Can’t believe this is a live performance.
It's not. They dubbed the song over the footage
This song has been stuck in my head for a week and I love it!
Only 1 week?
What an absolute banger of a song! Great live performance!
I wish they could remaster or restore the picture and video quality of this great moment from New Years ‘85. One of the best times growing up in the 80s.

Yeah I was thinking the same thing. So this was 31st of December 1985, not 1984?
i love this song. reminds me of the good old days
Cool last name..
Its 1984, she is too cute, awesome voice.
I was a teen in the 80's. I have always loved this song ❤❤❤🌹🌹🌹
So, she was singing this in the last half hour of 1984. Very cool.
I was 13 when this song came out. RATT, MOTLEY CRUE and SCANDAL were and still is my jammin' music. I miss the 80s so fuckin bad. Need a time machine folks!! Let's go back.
Cool, I believe I was there that night 1985? at the Ritz (rock club)
Mrs McEnroe was the quantum 80’s kick ass smokin’ hot rocker..
Patty still has it today! Just a pure voice. Very underrated singer.
Incredible skill, talent, and beauty. Thanks Patty.....
I saw her and Scandal at the Mississippi Gulf Coast Coliseum around '86 or '87. When they started playing this song, I thought the whole coliseum was going to collapse from the roar of the crowd! 80's music still rules!
Damn straight!
They broke up around 84 maybe you saw her live when she was first a solo artist
I really love the performance and the hairstyle!!
This song is very good.
Patty Smyth is a one and only true professional in performing and singing. Her Voice is simply unique and her songs are timeless classics
Late 1984 (I think) - I remember watching this - she is gorgeous!!
Absolutely stunning in this video!
This is great..so into what was happening at the time!!! So cool to dance to her strong voice!!!!
A great song.
I loved the 80's best decade ever.
Thank you for posting! Why doesn't anyone make music like this anymore?

Reason number 9,327 why the 80's were better than the current garbage.
RIGHT !!!!!!!!
Except most 80s music was dubbed and lipsynced.
@@71dupuis So true! Got to give Ryan Seacrest credit. When he took over Rock N' Eve, the west coast performances went to live singing.

if she were 600 lbs and the song sounded exact same, you would like it less on th radio??

Patty Smyth was never underrated!!
I think she was underrated in that when she left Scandal, she didn't hit super stardom. She had a good solo career but didn't hit the stratosphere...
