Ah, yes. The good old days before the metric system when Britain used Airline Suitcases [AS] as the standard unit to measure weight. I'll have 0.12 Airline Suitcases of flour, please.
Am I the only one that gets a little teary eyed at the camaraderie between Kaz and Sig? A shame JP passed so young and that they didn’t have more competition with each other.
What a great event...! The comrade- and sportsmanship in those days were unbeaten! The most impressive moment to me is at 27:20, when Bill Kazmaier presses these 160kg with such an ease, unbelievable! I have a harder time squating this weight than he is pressing it overhead🙈
Such a shame they stopped Kazmaier competing when he was at his best. He would have almost certainly had Capes title the following year and I think Sigmusons the year after, and who knows with that experience and practice he could have had another couple, he was a beast here still after the time off. It could have made the difference and this would have been his too. He could have quite possibly had nine titles.
Well you can blame Kazmaier for that. He was such a A**hole to officials, fellow competitors, and even fans. He was also very aggressive and dangerous. He nearly killed his fellow team mate OD Wilson because of his lack of professionalism and his violence. It was a great thing when they didn't invite him back!!
@@russwhaley2618 reminds me of Hercules in mythology. Extreme temper, kills wife, sacks Ilium but nearly kills the guy who scaled the walls before him.
I agree that he'd definitely take the next two. But capes and Jon made massive improvements in strength by 85. Kaz wasn't as good at the moving events and looking at Jon palls size in pure strength, he had the ability to get strong enough to offset kazs advantage in strength. Kaz would definitely win the static events but if Jon pall had the reason to put on that mass he'd at least come second and that wouldn't give Kaz enough of an advantage imo.
@@hugodogobob given, however the fact that he was too unprofessional and a jerk to fellow competitors, officials, and even fans is reason enough to not invite him back. He was a massive a**hole. It's good he wasn't invited back.
I love the big WTF element of these old strongman events, specially the over-the-bar throws. Kaz screwing the wood floor with his failed attempt, and at 46:40 there isn´t even a bar. And they throw the weights at the water, so they have to stop and search them (while they try not to get killed by them)
Joint greatest ... the best of his era but strongman was different then less about money and more about the comradeship but he's up there with big Brian and big z and OF course Eddie the beast
Because everyone can relate to it? If they said it’s like lifting a car wheel off a car, not many would know how much that is because a lot of people take their car to a garage and let them deal with it
Kaz the strongest static but some more quick running events and Sigmarsonwas little faster. I didn’t think that he would dominate the Kag-tuss and the Atlas-stones so easy. Sigmarson hade some luck but not that is part of the game to😊
I don't really feel like fighting with armchair critics and online trolls and e thugs down below. Just enjoy the video because none of these commenters actually do strongman.
I don't know why they say Jon Pall wasn't strong, I've seen numerous competitions where he just beats them straight up.
Jon Paul is 28- while Bill is 35- Too bad The Kaz was frozen from wsm while he was still in his prime!
True but Jon pall was awesome and he will always my favorite strong man
A great battle between two legends. RIP Jon Pall Sigmarsson

yeah I prefer when they compare them to " thats like throwing a 7 year old boy 6 meters high over your head " 😹
"its the kind of war that goes on and on until one of us drops" - sad quote looking back
Jon Pall is such a legend that he spawned a shirt right after winning the event at 49:10
RIP JP
jon was quite a character i love it when he starts asking his viking gods for strength
Jon Pall was light years ahead also Jamie Reeves what a beast
You two are fantastic almost brings me to tears. I wish you both greatness even beyond where you are
His fame will live forever, well done JP
Jon pall is a monster. He would have won another two- three wsm titles for sure
Absolutely
Unlikely.
Love 💓 from india jharkhand jamshedpur jugsalai chaprahiya
Also from India bengal
The respect I love that real mens respect!
Soo good, a real classic.
Kaz is a legend
Can't argue with you there. An ego that is so astronomically huge yet so pitifully fragile is truly the stuff of legends.
@@friendly-nemesis4754you’re sad 😂
@@sleepinggiant4102 No, just observant.
He was a legend but his back-chatting was pitiful. JP was warned many times by the ref over the years and he just smiled, moved on and did better.

Webster made a real big mistake.
Nah, Kaz cheated a little bit.

No doubt Kaz was statically stronger than jp.

@@russwhaley2618 that was way after he wasn't invited back so nearly killing OD, while a good example of his dumb aggression, isn't a reason.

Oh yes, the suitcase man.
Excellent sportsmanship ❤
960kg is just over 1000 pounds, apparently. 😂
He obviously misread 460 as 960. 😂😂
Jon Pall always a good sport even when losing. Kazmaier spits his dummy out every event. Would've done better if he stayed cool
Jon Pall the greatest of all time !!!!
Joint greatest ... the best of his era but strongman was different then less about money and more about the comradeship but he's up there with big Brian and big z and OF course Eddie the beast
My birth year :)
PAS DE DOULEUR BÉBÉ PAS DE PUTAIN DE GAIN !!!!!!!!
Jon Pall lifting the log with his head…. 🤔
How is that a good lift?
It is because he rests it on his head then presses it. It's very painful. Requires a lot of skill
When TF is an Australian competitor going to actually be competitive ??
I know what it is.... it's too fuckin hot down here !! 🥵
I think that Kazmaier's shoes are the tennis shoes McEnroe used at that time.
35 years ago they made strongmen carry 90 kilo objects 😹how the sport has evolved
Anyone know what's with all the "airline suitcase" references??
Because everyone can relate to it? If they said it’s like lifting a car wheel off a car, not many would know how much that is because a lot of people take their car to a garage and let them deal with it
Geoff Capes was sponsored by a suitcase company.
Samsonite!?!? I was way off
In the deadlift event Jon pall switched to sumo.
The commentator is funny that accent 😂
Yeah stfu. He sounds better than you. 😂 I really hate emoji culture
Kaz won that truck pull
We only saw one pull out of 2. The two times are counted and JP probably had a better overall time
Can you please upload the 1989 world's strongest man
So beautiful and sexy short shorts they are wearing! I wish they would come back for sports and leisure wear.
Imagine today w usada
Kaz really seemed to be ripped off that year.
Wouldent this be the deadlift record if it was 520 kilos. Not taking away from eddie hall. Just asking
Deadlifts performed in this competition weren’t standard deadlifts. The bar was a lot higher, thus a shorter distance to lift, which made it easier.
It’s an 18 inch or similar deadlift. A partial deadlift really.
Thanks

The short s lol
Kaz with his trademark soft knees on the deadlifts.

125 kilo logs 😁30 years later they are doing 225. How far the sport has come
Shit load more roids
But they didn't have any equipment back then. So it's still impressive

Bill Kazmier...........He won the title 3 times.......after a six year break...He wants to win again LOL!!!!!!!!!!!
First?
ooooh, you beat me to it XD
1st time in a then still communist country. ☝️
