The editing is so early 2000s/ late 90s. I love it
The early 2000s feel so 90s, the 90s feel so 80s.
it has detail
“Wyking Power!”
Svend knew it was his year and he really made it something special.
I’m 12 years into my Strongest Man marathon. Addicted lol
VIKING POWER!!! I already mentioned it, but Svend is one one my favorite strongmen everrrrr!
So cool he finished his collection by finally winning the WSM title 😎💪 (And Magnus completing his collection, too 🤣!)
And to think that Tom Stoltman just did 10 reps with a 163kg log at Rogue, when Hugo won the log with 11 reps @120.
2001 was the year for Svend, winning both Europe Strongest Man and WSM, and also make Janne got twice beaten at the 2nd place and 3rd place for both of the 2001 Europe Strongest Man and WSM respectively. Such a great character he is for the best strength story collection.
Brilliant squat event. Would love to see the modern guys do a version if this squat rather than the commonly used giant barbell.
God I hate that giant barbell
Proud of our Norwegian champion for claiming our one and only title.
Svend was a great athlete he had plenty of charisma as well.
Congrats! Well deserved for Sven. You could see his progress over the years leading to this win.
Svend was a beast that year.
Fantastic Svend Karlsen! He sure was in good form that year.
Love this History
Magnus Samuelsson is still my favorite strogman of all time.
I think he held the record at 1 stage for most finals appearances
Good era. Both were popular and good on camera.
Jouko Ahola 🇫🇮😈
I love how absolutely nobody bothered to check how to spell Wout Zijlstra’s name.
This only seems like yesterday not 21 yrs ago
10:50 OMG!? Why did he squat so low??? He didn't get blown out, he simply, went WAY past 90°
5:34 as someone who has over 200 hours of ink on them... it's so sad to see those raised lines in his tattoo.
We'll never know what position Hugo would have been if he hadn't tore the calluses off his hands
16:40 Paul Dickenson covering for the incompetence of the spotters. One of the funniest WSM moments. Karlsen was shouting take it and then went down so as to rack it up, and they didn't take it and he had to come back up and he was shouting even louder "take it". Dickenson makes out that Karlsen is a pleb and doesn't know how many reps he had done "he really wasn't sure".
I had to watch the replay to catch it. You’re right! He wanted to rack it and the spotters were staring at one of the bikini girls. He screamed “rack it” “take it” like 5 times! Dickenson covers for them saying “Svend looking for confirmation of his reps” LOL!
@@intellivisionmaster7999 😂 absolutely priceless. Old strongman was so funny. Have a look at the old super series clips in the 90s with Steve Holdsworth commentating if you haven’t already.
Karlsen "if I have to do all the stones in 20 seconds I will"
2021 Tom Stoltman beats this hyperbole
Cool story bro lol So it 20 years for that to happen then? Not impressive then really 🤣🤣
@@MrMikeyj81 So by your logic a sub 2 hour marathon isn't very impressive because it took 2508 years for someone to accomplish?
There is so many differing factors between these eras that they aren’t really comparable
Magnus and the atlas stones was the most impressive thing in this final imo..
This was a really good year for WSM!
Watte Zijlstra? His name is Wout
The end of the scandinavian dominance era, my favorite one.
48:11 Karlsen only had to do 1 stone in less than 23.75! 7th place would have been enough to win.
I think you’re right! But the tradition is for the winner to race as fast as he can (using 100% energy) to get 4 stones, guarantee the win, give a wave to the crowd, bend to grab the 5th stone while completely exhausted, hold it in the Kangaroo pocket for 45 seconds, drop it, wave-off the stone, then hug-jump on the second place competitor to congratulate himself for the win! Lol… it’s tradition!
Viking Power!!!
One of the greatest vikings
Most of these guys seem like pipsqueaks compared to todays competitors, lol.
That closeup on Hugo’s hand hurt me to see 😂
What about Andrew Raynes, he was only short but gave it his all
Wiking is lucky that Pudzianowski couldn't come
Cope better what ifs are completely irrelevant lol 😭😭
5'6"? He fucking wishes
He looks 5-feet even! 5-6 is almost average height.
According to Wikipedia
5 ft 3 in (1.60 m)
End then, came Mariusz Pudzianowski
And rest is the history : 5 title WSM
Yet only competed in 1 Arnold classic strongman cause the weights were to big and heavy for him lol Big Z is the best strongman by far!
@@MrMikeyj81 in static events, yes
Secret to farmers walk is run as fast as possible its a no brainer if u go slow your grip has to hold longer
I lifted 150 kg for biceps can you?
Vikings rule the strongman sport!
120 kgs lol... the german guy didnt belong there.
