You Really Got Me the Kinks and that broken guitar amp was it all. If you weren't listening on your radio in the 60's then you may not get it.
Nice job. Thank you for the video.
I’ve seen the band on several occasions. Always a great time. Ray is a wonderful front man.
great band and Ray is one of the greatest songsmiths ever.
most underrated band of all time.....
I heard that line for 600 bands. They are well respected, but i blame Davis bros.for their fall from grace. And Ray had his moments of overblowing with rock operas, concept albums that no one wanted. I love their stuff til MUSSWELL HILLBILLIES,that was their peak
@@Semprini537 Who are the other 599?
@@Semprini537 l agree. They were a big thing and still are admired as one of the greatest bands of the 60s. In British Rock, you had Beatles (talent), the Stones (attitude-they stopped composing great song early) and the Kinks (talent). But that is the trinity.
I agree that those boring rockoperas are that boring self indulgent stuff. Is like those baudeville songs, bands used to do back in the 60s, sort of a style exercise but in general boring. Music for musicians. Beatles (mccartney), kinks, both loved that. In the Usa , comes to my mind the charlatans but there were more. Is a style that personally me, l hate😅
Not underrated at all as far as I’m concerned.
Absolutely right Ray best songwriter on planet as well
My favorite band. Great video about them.
A documentary on The Kinks with no contribution from Ray and Dave Davies is not a documentary about The Kinks.
You must mean ripped speaker in the amp. Been trying to locate " Arthur......." 4cd 50th Anniversary edition with 5 new songs. What the hey??? RIP Jim Rodford, Ian Gibbons, Pete Quaife and Shel Talmy ( the last one Dec 2024.)
I love love love Muswell Hillbillies.
I have my favorites, sure. But always love them. I tried to turn others on, and they either loved or hated it. Or some only liked the earlier albums. I like making mix tapes from their whole catalog. No shortage of great songs..... ❤
What about Parinoia Self destroya. A little yellow man in me 'ead. I said I'm not going crazy.. did i miss that part of the story. That was Kinks right?
Not sure John Gosling was asked to audition for Squeeze in 1970. Squeeze weren’t formed until 1974!
Saw them on the Schoolboys in Disgrace tour, they were great.
Somehow - I think it was in the 70's - I came to have a promo photo of The Kinks - I don't recall if I found it at a thrift store or a friend of a friend was a local rep of MCA records and he had it and I got it that way?
I’m confused . . John Gosling was in the band from ‘71 to ‘78, and in the film (at 4mins52) he talked about when he first auditioned for them (obviously in ‘71). He said there were two different adverts for a keyboardist in a music paper, so he had to choose which one to reply to. He says one was for The Kinks, and one was for Squeeze - “because Jools Holland had just left Squueze”. But Jools never left Squeeze until the late-‘70s!! What’s more, Squeeze weren’t even formed till around ‘74-‘75!
My faves are Lola, Superman, and Celluloid Heroes...
Didn’t realise Trigger played drums for the Kinks😂😂
Lola is a great bass line
John Gosling joined in 1970 🌹
Payed with them on th Tower ballroom New Brighton about mid 64 after we finished we took them to our chippy they had a brand new Bedford van it was just the drummer and bass player think the tow brothers may have flew back so that’s my claim to Fame played with the Kinks and took the drummer and bass player to our chippy. Lol
#4 Biggest Take Aways: 1) God damn The Kinks have songs & aesthetic that are every bit as pivotal as the Beatles' et al; 2) God damn The Kinks got the shit kicked out of em in the US for a long time (almost to humorous degrees- even having to fly all the back over the water for the American's demand of changing Lola lyric)- when they had success- while Zeppelin/ Grant mostly kicked the shit out the American, booking system when they arrived; 3) while The Who fought, were wild, um, it was these cats' baseline ok &- 4, god damn these dude's have low voices, like whispers, I can barely make out the words as they float like. wisps in the air.

Always a favorite band, great songs, fun shows. Not much from Ray here though.
Saw the Kinks once. It was when that song about Superman was on the radio a thousand times a day. Late 70's maybe. Nassau Coliseum, Long Island. Ian Hunter band and the Kinks. Hunter band opened the show, they were great! Their sound engineer and team knew what they were doing. Sounded fuck'n great. The Kinks? Awful! Worst concert I've ever been to. They sounded terrible. The band and their songs? Yeah people love them. If that's what people want to hear, go ahead, enjoy it! I don't listen to them at all.
The Kinks lost their cool after they replaced Pete Quaife with this Dalton Tremeloes lookalike....It made them conquer Uncle Sam's Utopia though. Becoming crap is the best way to conquer the U.S. dollar.
Now ya'll ...sing along.......Lowla , Lowla, Low Low Low Low Lola....24:24 👍🤥
English is my native language. i have no idea what the hell these people are saying.
This is awful.
