    A quick pointer: if you attach small cut branch to the stepper, the chicken feet can hold its self and climb the latter, my had the same issue until I reformatted it.
    Also, provide 1 tps of brags vinegar or yogurt, it prevents parasites, gives them more good gut bacteria.
    Also, where there are chicken they will be: possums, raccoons, rats etc..... if you extend the bricks on the skirt of the foundation 2 feet more, that will avoid the animals from digging and getting in the coop.
    My neighbor did not do this, and unfortunately she lost one chicken, and had another one injured!
    Home grown eggs taste the best! Congratulations on your first eggless!,,

      Thanks Parnika. How do you diagnose those?

    • @mb2k100
      @mb2k100 6 років тому +1

      I used to find them in the nooks and cranny's of your hutch (which is amazing by the way) tiny little red critters, sort of like ticks. But they will infest your chickens on their skin and cause them irritation. If you look at their skin you will see them at the base of the feathers. But i will be honest, this probably wont happen provided you keep their hutch clean. Otherwise look up Red Mites Chickens on google, there is a powder for them if they do get infested, unlikely as it is, so don't worry! I think what you are doing is great, a supper lesson for your kids, and the bounty of eggs to boot! Huge respect to you!

    MY BROTHER FROM ANOTHER MOTHER !!! Way to go, eh. If I find out I can keep egg chickens in -45f (is where Celsius and Fahrenheit meet up, so we all know what BLOODY COLD is now) might do this next spring. Have it on my white board of projects. 😃

    Our chickens had some problems nesting in their boxes. One day, I discovered that they'd been laying behind a bush in a depression where a couple of golf balls had ended up. I moved the golf balls to the nesting boxes and they haven't had a problem since!

    Jeb,
    I used to leave an old board in a corner of the yard, and kept it well watered underneath. Then every once in a while I'd flip the board and the chickens would run over to devour this new feast of bugs.

    Wyandottes are a good breed, wise choice, pretty friendly and do a good job of laying regularly. I had them but decided to give them away and get Runner Ducks instead. The problem with the ladder is that it is really too steep for a big breed like a Wyandotte to climb. I give them credit for making a go of it; they gave it the ole Jeb heave-ho and experienced Victory. For cutting aluminum panels I use a jigsaw with a bi-metal blade on the metal setting. The reason I don't like using wire snips is that I seem to always end up getting cut on the edges, especially hardware wire. Good choice going with redwood, it will last a long time. Its amazing how you can build something and then a decade seems to go by really fast. I learned quite quickly that its better to do something for longevity and spend the little extra at the beginning.
    I know there has been a lot in the news your way about Newcastles Disease and everyone getting their backyard chickens confiscated - hope you fare well on that. Be sure the kids wash their hands after handling the chickens..............and get READY for fly season.

    I found your videos several days ago and at first i was weirded out, then intrigued and then kind of afraid, cause you look like the type of guy who'd murder me if I angered you, but anyways I'm so glad YT actually recommended me your video, I love the classical music you use, your monotone voice and the fact that you start every video with My name's Jeff... I uh, I meant Jeb.... Please don't murder me....

    There are your little ones. lol how cute. Great way to grow up. Raised my kids in Geauga county Ohio (means nothing to anyone on the channel I am sure) but it is fairly rural but like 10 minutes from densely populated areas. I grew up in what is not the inner city. West Geauga is a GREAT place to live and I can' think of a better place to raise kids. Nature, horse farm up the street. Amish not far away.. 4 wheelers, mini bikes.. Fresh air. Where are you located Jeb? Fairly rural area I assume being that you have a couple chickens?

    You know things are serious when Jeb breaks out the level and actually uses it. Dog seems well behaved around the chickens too in fact better behaved than the chickens themselves. A fantastic video and nothing beats fresh eggs as a lot of producers in NA tend to wash the eggs before they get to the store removing the protective coating. Very fine looking coop I even think the chickens like it... look at those colorful eggs at 14:40 they've left.

      I wanted a tight seal with the boards and bricks so I used the level, otherwise I might have skipped it. Funny, building the coop happened around Easter. Maybe those are bunny eggs.

    Chickens are already dramatic enough without the epic music. They will knock your 4 ft level over and break a window in the coop you are building, without the slightest provocation. Kentucky Fricken Chicken.

      @jc6226 6 років тому

      P.S. Try building coop with clear, uv resistant plastic corrugated roofing in shady areas, or overcast areas like parts of pacific northwest. The people I built the coop for in PNW said egg production more than doubled building a higher roost in a coop you could stand up in with plenty of natural light from all sides, especially the roof.

      Jeb Gardener well my AC did go out for a couple of weeks, living in south Texas so it got up to around 80-85 degrees inside. Humidity wasnt an issue but maybe the nutes were off, they didnt really mix in right and i had some film on top of the water for a while too /:
