Robinson - The Great City - A Brief History + Track 1 & 2 play through

- In this video I give a brief history of the beginning of Robinson, how we developed our sound and our thought process during the writing of The Great City. I do a full play through of tracks 1 and 2 , and at the end a full break down with on screen tabs for the guitar nerds. This is my first time creating a video this long or in depth so my lessons and editing will get better. I promise! 😂 Please subscribe for more Robinson, From A Second Story Window, and non-technical guitar talk. Thanks for watching! #robinson #thegreatcity #grindcore #paulmisko
I’m in my mid-30’s so I’ve had a lot of time to think about this, and I can honestly say The Great City is my favorite album. I saw you guys at that CT show that the other dude mentioned and I was enamored. I think I fangirled you guys on MySpace cuz I literally figured out like one chord to one song and I was like “hey I figured out a chord can you throw me a bone and tab out the rest please” haha. I know this comment is already a bit verbose but fun fact, I was involved in a horrible car accident involving an 18-wheeler about 5 years ago and this is the CD I was listening to when it happened. If I knew it was going to re-sell for so much money I would have ran back into the wreckage to salvage the CD 😂
Holy shit man! That's an incredible story. Thank you so much. I'm glad you made it out ok. Happy to help if you are still trying to learn any of the songs lol. If I come across a copy to send you, you'll be hearing from me!
Dude this is so sick … I LOVE Robinson. booked you guys in CT ages ago with See You Next Tuesday, both bands set up like a wall of cabs and the drums facing each other and both bands played one song then traded to the other band. Was so sick.
Yo! Thanks man. That our was so fun! We called it BATTLE SETS. Haha. Great times.
This was my favorite show ever, still to this day. Shroud of Turin opened, right?
@@wseam1 not positive but sounds right!
@@wseam1 Yeah it was Shroud of Turin, See You Next Tuesday, Robinson, Deadgirlsdiary, The Failsafe Device, & The Hica Legacy.
@@wseam1 I'm pretty sure it was an orange show flier with a picture of the Juggernaut on it.
HOLY SHIT! I loved the great city ep! Cheers from Brazil!
Thank you! 🤝
Incredible, so cool to hear how you guys came up with your sound and to see the breakdown of the songs. Keep it coming please!
Thank you so much! Will do! It's been fun to revisit all these years later.
I was the drummer in Everything Falls Together and we loved playing with you fellas. Still got your CD and we rocked that on tour all the time!
Oh shit! What's up dude! That tour was so much fun. Loved playing with you guys. Hope you're doing well brother.
@@PaulMisko I am doing well...I've subscribed and liked your interview with Shane Cashman!
@ Thanks so much brother! Good to hear.
I fell in love with The Great City the first time I listened to it as a whole. I had already got deeper into mathcore at this point (I was in middle school), but this album sounded like REALLY dissonant and even scary (for lack of a better word), and I loved it. I tried to learn those songs on drums and also learned to sing almost the entire album. Robinson has been one of my favorite lesser known mathcore/mathgrind bands ever since just like Destroyer Destroyer and Machinist. (Too bad this album isn't on Spotify as far as I know.) Thank you for this amazing video, had a big smile on my face while watching this!
That’s amazing to hear man! Thank you so much! I’m in the process of getting it on streaming finally. It will be out everywhere Nov 29.
@@PaulMisko and I forgot to mention that I'm from Finland where mathcore might not be well known genre (besides maybe the more mainstream acts such as TDEP and Converge) since mathcore is kinda USA thing (and also very anti-mainstream by design), whereas Finland is more about black or death metal as far as I know.
That's why I'm kinda proud to be one of the fewer Finnish and assumedly one of the relatively younger underground mathcore fans of the modern day since I'm just 18 now (I was about 15 when I was introduced to Robinson). But enough of me yapping, greetings from Finland! 🤘🏻😅🇫🇮
@theaquariuschannel666 That's awesome to know people are still listening all the way over there man. Really appreciate you watching and the kind words! I'll have more to come as soon as I can figure out more of these songs. They have all left my memory. 😂
I never thought i would see this! This is insane! The great city was the most important album of my life, thanks to it i got into the extreme stuff. So happy to see this and know whats behind it and see that it wasn’t all a fever dream. Would love to hear more from you guys! Thanks for sharing this masterpiece with the world!
Wow dude. That is crazy to hear! Thank you so much! I plan to get another song done as soon as I can figure out how to play it 😂
Hells yeah. Hope all you dudes are well. I’ll never forget those days back in 2005 chillin with you dudes on Long Island. Drinking all my friends parents alcohol and smoking weed in the pool. Some of the best days. Amazing video of history and playing
Those were such good times man. Simpler times. I miss it. Hope you’re doing well too. Thank you! 🫡
I love this. More Robinson/FASSW talk, more play throughs, more stories etc please!
Thanks man! I’m on it! 🤝
so stoked for this series. one of my all-time favorite albums!
@@verbbudders904 Thank you man! So am I. 🤝
I'm so stoked on this! I just shared The Great City with one of my bandmates this morning and think the algorithm blessed me with this video.
Thank you! Gotta love when the algorithm nails it! Haha. Appreciate you watching.
Yes! Robinson! Getting an album art inspired tat of the great city this weekend!
@@jaydeines111 Holy shit! That’s amazing. Please send me a photo. I need to see this. 🫶
Lmao I always knew you were spidering those sliding full chords. So cool to see. I’ve always loved that riff of the first song. So so dissonant and beautiful. Destroyer destroyer and Gaza could nail those too
Love seeing this chaos translated. Thanks!
@@DrewBrownBLL Thanks for watching! 🙌
Amazing thank you
I love the story of how this came together. This how great music is made, through happy accidents like this formation of music. This is the most intense music I've ever heard.
Where are the other members now? Want band is Jeremy the drummer in?
@@voiceofjackson Thanks man! Greg is currently in a band called Constant Hell in Pittsburgh. Jeremy is in Hawaii for work and Mike is in Ohio. I don’t believe those two are currently in any projects.
@@PaulMisko Thanks very much!
Hi there!! The Great City is one of the best albums I've ever heard!!
Thank you very much for telling your story, the EP you recorded and the sound you made definitely opened my mind to new musical possibilities, you really made a revolution in the way I understood what music is and what it is to compose, thank you very much for doing that!!!
I remember once, correct me if I'm wrong, seeing a banner on Debello's website that advertised an album coming out from robinson called fuck everything, could you please talk about this in the future, could you tell us if this really happened?
I only forgot one thing, Cheers from Brasil!!
That really means a lot to know something I was a part creating of inspired you. Thank you so much brother! I would have to ask the rest of the guys more about that because this happened after I left the band to join From A Second Story Window. I know we had new songs in the works on our final tour in 2006, but I am not sure how much further they took it after I was gone. The band broke up not long after that. Maybe I can get one of the dudes on here to do a podcast with me and talk more about it.
It would be amazing to know more details about it, if it's possible, and if you guys, before you left the band, or they ever recorded something that, unfortunately, wasn't released.
thanks for making music, i also really like from a second story window, you guys are great!!!
awesome!
@@Swatta1 Thanks! 🤝
Will you guys be releasing the Robinson album again, is there any new albums to come with physical copies aswel?look forward to all that ya guys put out , super excited!🤘🏻🤘🏻
Thank you! No plans for a release, but I would like to get it on streaming because it’s not available anywhere.
@@PaulMiskowell thatll be awesome to have it on spotify i was just searching for it haha 🤘🏻🤘🏻 absolutely
This is sweet!
Thanks dude! 🤝
Robinson needs a reunion show
Robinson was the shittttttt!
@@codycampbell7255 Thanks brother!
Sick af
Thanks man! 🤝
I’ll never forget when that album came out. My parents thought I was on drugs
Haha. So did mine.
this is rad
Thank you! 🤝
I loved Debello Recordings or Cunning Linguistic Industrial Technologies prior. How was Jean as a person?
@@dotty8449 I honestly didn’t get to know him super well, but from what I remember he was an awesome dude. We were really stoked to be on that label.
wait is the chord e3a3d4g5? i love robinson btw
oh shit theres tabs nvm
@ Happy to help if you have any other questions. I threw those together very quickly haha.
Funny that you are wearing a Full of Hell shirt. Seeing Robinson was one of the main reasons Dylan (the singer) decided to pursue music. Specifically the split set you did with Signs of Collapse in a gym in Belleville PA after a neighbor complained. You guys really don't understand how big of an impact you made.
@@bigridge717 Dude we played right before them at Furnace Fest this year so I got to meet him and he told me all about that! Was so cool to hear. Such a great dude. And thank you!
