    I think the opening lines of this title sum the video up pretty well. I want to see the potential of the T7 off-road. Can I make it good enough and get comfortable enough to ride real Enduro terrain on it? Can it do single track, massive hill climbs and boulder river beds without needing the skill of a world class trials rider?
    So that's were setting out to do. To tell the full story of a a month of testing, building, filming and riding to get the T7 as close to perfect as we can.
    We'll add in a full test of the T7 Suspension, the T7 exhaust system and improve the set-up of the bike constantly to make it better.
    Hopefully you enjoyed this video and it's exciting!

    I have done similar mods but being Australia with it’s dusty conditions off road that sprint filter would be clogged in one ride. Australian bikes come fitted with a uni filter foam filter and I added a uni filter pre filter to the snorkel. The result has been great with the main filter never needing to be cleaned in 10000km of travel. I have since switched to a funnel web filter system and initial impressions are really good with the pre filter being really easy to remove and clean which wasn’t the case with the uni filter.

      Interesting. I am confused how it can work without foam and oil but they claim it will. Gonna do a pull test at the end.

      @@BrakeMagazine If not already done, trim the air filter snorkel (12-14mm) so it isn't so close/almost touching the bottom of the air filter box, for better air flow/dispersion into the air filter. You can also make your own pre-filter with an old foam filter and a re-usable cable tie.

      @Brake Magazine One bit I found interesting was the dual control brake lever. It seems like a potentially clever and efficient ergonomic trick, but I can also imagine it turning out to be a disappointment or trade-off or liability, so I look forward to hearing about your experience. The rest of the upgrades look so good and the graphics especially add a few horsepower 👍 Edit: That air filter looks promising, too. I ordered but haven't received in the mail yet the frame protectors, lithium battery, Barkbusters, lower crash bars, and skid plate.

Hoping to drop 10kg from up high, and pipe and jet for better fueling and another 5hp - finally get off my lazy bum and dial in the suspension - considering another bar option somewhere between my YZ-high bars and the stock bars, maybe a new graphics kit - or maybe straight silver, with no graphics.

    4:33 i think you are right on the money with believing it is a good starting point. Most riders are not capable of pushing the bike beyond its limits as is. nor are they looking to go that extreme. most just want a nice comfy setup with a good seating position and good handling. i am so curious on how you are going to improve your T7.
    the best 3 mods i have done is fit the HEED bunker crash bar and especially the rear crash bars love those! Never saw rear bars before, for the t7. I wonder if an exhaust tuck would be possible with those rear bars. i think it might just be a perfect combo, protection and lift grips... The second is the puig adjustable windscreen, too expensive for what you get , but adjustable during drive. extra low and extra high screen on the fly. works great. the last is a single finger clutch with adjustable clutch lever because my winter gloves need the extra space between my barkusters and clutch handle. thick boys haha
    looking forward on what you are going to do with yours!! good luck and have fun!!!

    I would save the 75 quid and cut the stock windscreen to suit. I am glad you pointed out the "mud" guard removal resulted in mud going up your back. I have always wondered why riders remove this. Any dirt bike I have ever owned has a nice long stretched out plastic fender, to stop the mud. I love the Tenere, I have one, along with a DRZE, and the two don't compare, in my view, as dirt bikes. The antiquated 20 year old DRZE still outperforms my T7 in the "dirt". Even the suspension is superior, ground clearance, all those things.......weight..... Anyhow, a new era in bikes I am all for, but the modification of bike can only go so far, in my view, and it comes down to design from the factory. With a bottomless bank account, and having lots time and a workshop helps, but if its dirt you want to ride, it would be better to just go out and buy a "dirt bike". The CRF 450 is the best example these days in my view, its a shame that Yamaha and WR450 have not morphed into a full street legal "dirt bike", from the factory. The weight, ground clearance, and "uncrashability" of the T7 are problems for me going forward....as a dirt bike. Paul Torres, a highly paid, world class champion athlete, from the world of trials, undoubtedly earned his pay promoting this bike, and seems to have convinced many a buyer what is possible, but as you tube has proven, many a rider, can not, and will not, attain in reality, modified or not. I am waiting for a modification that involves removing entirely the whole front end, and attaching a little enduro headlight, and some radiator wings etc, like a true dirtbike. All this crash bar this, fender shortening kit that, does nothing at all to improve the bike. A T7 naked/enduro, concept. The true give away for me with the T7 was the absent lower rear sprocket chain guide.....optional......This is not a dirt bike.....from the factory by any stretch of the imagination.....I am making my bike.....a street/gravel road specific version.....and I will keep riding my DRZE in the woods.

Defo gonna change the shock spring and fork internals, probably with Rally Raid ones. Great vid, I also have had to change some of the same Items to make it a more suitable off-road machine. Put a Scott's steering stabilizer on with lowered bars. Not everyones cup of tea, I removed the ABS system and one of the calipers on the front, stainless brake lines, Galfer rotor and pads lost 2+Kg's off the front and braking is still great for Offroad IMO better touch and progressive, removed all extra ABS lines and box another 2kg removed. Riding in the southwest of US it's great to just blow off road and hit the dirt without stopping and when turning off the bike it's ready to rip with no ABS. Also went with a 2.5" rear rim with rim locks front and rear able to run the rear at 12-15psi and front at 15-20psi.....GAME CHANGER! Have over 12,000 K 70 % AZ, UT, CO dirt mix of some technical riding I usually do on my 500 KTM, it is an amazing machine, running rear 140 Motoz Tractionator Adventure tire (slightly softer sidewall than other Tractionator tires) and the Pirelli Scorpion Rally front knobby, so far perfection for what and how I ride.

    According my experience the main issues in offroad with this bike are: overheating ( frustrating at low speed in single track) and swing arm displacement, no aftermarket shocks will fix it, is just how the swingarm relate with frame and pinion position.
    Since i'm not a pro rider and i can't flat out all the time, It drives me crazy having no grip at all on the rear wheel, it seems to seat on a a cow with a chily pepper in its butt.

    I have to drive about 100-180 miles to get anywhere interesting for off-roading where I live now. Looking at a new cb500x, start with tires but mod it for a little more offroad capability, if I can find one or if I can convince myself to spend the money up front on a tenere 700. I'd like to go on some moto camping trips every year over the next decade. Not quite confident enough to jump all the way to an Africa Twin.

    Great video like always! In your personal opinion, do you think bar risers are needed for somebody who is 6 foot (183cm) 32 inch legs? I have lower back disc problems and usually standing up gives me a lot of pain within 20 minutes. (last bike was 2010 R1200GS with no risers) I know your dads' opinion about risers haha, but I wonder how you felt on the T7? And was it difficult to get access to the handlebar clamps so that you could rotate them? Thanks!

    Llel I absolutely love those wildernis graphics you put on your bikes. Any chance you will make them for the 2012-2018 gen KTM 690? I'd love a black/grey tint version of it, perhaps with some small orange details? ;-P I'd be the first to get a kit. To be honest though, lots of those bikes still around so might be worth looking into!

    I suggest a t7 rally swingarm protector. If the exhaust is bent in a case of falling to the right side you avoid destroying the swingarm while riding home and having the exhaust rub on it.

    • @DakarBlues
      @DakarBlues Рік тому +1

      Ditch the OEM exhaust altogether as it could bend or even break the subframe, totaling a perfectly good bike. Getting a tucked in one is the best move for anybody.planning to travel far.

    Riding my T7 all stock. (Just handguards are replaced) If you have troubles during the lifetime of a bike...it mostly comes from the modifications. But this is only my opinion after riding the last 35 years.

    Fantastic mods done. It looks brilliant. what would be the total cost of modifications. Will you do if someone asked for the changes?
    One more question, I'm in US which adventure bike would you recommend for me? I would like to ride 60% asphalt 40% off-road (gravel, hills, backroad with slush and challenging trails) My shortlist as follows KTM 890 R, Aprillia Tourag 660, Husqvarna Norden 901 (but not sure), Suzuki V-strom 650 XT (but concern about Front shock absorber, and ground clearance and heavy) Tiger 900 Rally, so i am not sure which one should i go ? Please help.

    Llel, will you have a chance to test the Tuareg 660? I recently picked one up and Im really happy with it. Its handles quite well on and off road and for $1k US more than the Tenere, I believe it has many advantages over it. Definitely worth it.

    Would be intresting what you will do with suspension. i hated stock suspension as it was bottoming out and behave like a pogo stick, fitted full K-tech kit and rely on one of the suspension specialists advice in regards to spring hardness... now seems to be too hard to be honest, as i lost my confidece offroad on such stiff bike, specialy in wet 😞 Tarmac becomes MUCH less comfortable as well. I think i need to change springs somwhere between stock and suggested for my weigt, as stock is to soft and suggested by spring manufacturers to stiff... didn't have these sort of problems with Husky 701 stock WP suspension 😕

    The Mt09 forum has a long thread on tweaking the rotational position of the accelerator position sensor, which apparently cures its snatchy throttle. Would a similar mod work on the CP2engine? ie Slight rotation of the throttle position sensor (cable throttle)

    Love the bike and thought that’s gone into it. One thing, though, is the exhaust which is the usual ADV bike afterthought. Did you consider one of the neater narrower options which protect the swingarm and rear subframe? I read a lot about those issues. Or maybe they’re not a problem. It always seems a shame to me that luggage is compromised by vast protruding silencers (other than Ducati).

    • @BrakeMagazine
      @BrakeMagazine  2 роки тому

      I did not sorry. We are changing the exhaust to see what it does for the bike though.

    Hey man. On the fence about the t7 and Tuareg. I haven’t had a go on the Aprillia but t7 feels really natural and easy based on a road test experience, what’s not to like kinda thing. Bike looks and feels more like a dirt bike and the Aprillia glitzy by comparison. I guess from seat of pants t7 could use just a little more shove off the bottom otherwise didn’t understand all the noise about it being top heavy, felt balanced to me.

    I have seen on the final pics that the forks have Rally Raid stickers meaning Tractive cartridges. Every single social media influencer/channel has been using this setup (meaning a lot of marketing and perhaps sponsoring) and would have been nice to have opinions on other suspension setups (Ohlins, Andreani, Race tech etc..). This opinion comes from a T7 owner with Tractive closed cartridge system that has been revalved for 3 or 4 times until I got the desired setup. The promoted big 35mm pistons are actually a downside since only one fork does compression and the other rebound.

    • @BrakeMagazine

      We tried to get Ohlins and couldn't. We've got a comparison review against another set but I can see your point.
      We don't have any sponsorship from Rally Raid or Tractive btw.
