      @@PJBHolden there are a lot of valid criticisms of Deguara and the decision to select him, but this isn't one of them. He's tough as nails and has played in 16, 17, and 15 games in the last three years and every possible playoff game. He's been ineffective, but the IR thing is a very weird criticism.

      Ok, the IR was in 2020 but 47 receptions over 4 years. What exactly is his role as a 3rd round pick? Blocking and special teams? Packers could have found that guy in rd 7

      @@PJBHolden you are missing the point.
      The role is fullback / H-back. No one was praising Deguara. The role is the role that Kyle Jusczyzk plays in San Francisco.
      Deguara isn't a good player. Deguara wasn't a good pick. You're arguing with a wall.
      The role of fullback/h-back is something they've tried to figure out, it's something a similar offensive team has, and it's something they've tried to to with multiple players.
      Ed Ingram's role with the Vikings is "starting right guard", that doesn't mean he isn't a disaster.

    Ross, I agree with pretty much everything you said in the free agency portion of this video. I remember how much I liked Dalton Risner in the draft and would love to see the Packers sign him now. I also would love for them to get either J. Simmons or Blackmon, but I just don't see it happening at this point. I hope they at least re-sign Rudy Ford. Also, what do you think of Illinois T Julian Pearl? I thought you might jump on him when you mentioned him in one of the later rounds. I seem to remember hearing another Packers analyst (don't remember who) saying he might be a good fit for GB. Considering our depth issues on the offensive line, I would feel better with two of them in the first four rounds.

    I know this was probably recorded earlier, but after watching the Gutey interview at the owners meeting I kinda don't think hes going for DeJean. He sounded very comfortable with Nixon in the nickel, as much as that kills me inside. And as far as avoiding linebackers because "he isn't a Mike" Gutey came out and said he thinks that the inside Linebackers should be interchangeable among all 3 spots. It was answering a question about the Sam position but i feel it applys to the Mike as well.

    • @rossuglem5535

      Gutey also said a lot of nice things about Aaron Jones and how much he wanted him back right before he made everyone mad by cutting him.

    • @Dot_Con
      @Dot_Con 9 місяців тому +1

      I hope he’s lying, too, but that contract says “starter” to me. Definitely feels like GB will go into the season with Nixon as the starting slot guy - though they should still target CB. Valentine is not a starter. They need a CB 2 opposite Jaire.

    I think in terms of nickel/Safety hybrids there’s better all around players later on who can play man and zone. Coopers biggest flaw is his man coverage ability and credit GB is not going to run just man coverage next year, but the number of snaps in man coverage is going to spike up drastically compared to last. Idk if Dejeans play style will translate into a slot corner role (yes he did a little bit of it in 22, but from an athletic traits perspective idk if he has the lateral agility/fluidity and twitch to lock down that spot). He can absolutely aid in the run game though that is for sure. But also I understand with what you’re saying with the reasoning for trading up, but do we think Dejean actually goes that high? Given his leg injury at the end of the season, and his NFL position being a huge question mark, I’d find it hard for anyone to necessarily fall in love with him that high, at least with some of the other emerging CB prospects. (Though to your point it COULD happen). Lastly I know we talk a lot of shit to Nixon and on defense deservingly so, but with Hafley coming in and then GB extending him to a pretty healthy contract for a player of his recent history. Is there any reason to believe that GB sees more in him and his future potential at corner that Hafley and the new coaching staff can unlock. It’s hard to see GB giving him that contract just to be the return guy and for Nixon to want to stay, just to be the return guy. They’re not just going to give Nixon the job but I feel like that aspect shouldn’t be overlooked too.
    Sorry for the essay.

    Instead of trading up I'd trade down. Using Rich Hill, trade 25 and 219 to KC for 32, 95 and 173. Gutey would have 9 picks between 32 and 173.
    I'd pass on Jenkins in the second round and take McKinnley Jackson, Kristian Boyd or Evan Anderson in later rounds.

  • @mattw36

    The Packers didn't take a single offensive lineman last year, with O line being one of the deepest classes and the Packers recent investmeng in RB/the importance of the run game/play action, you've gotta think the Packers will take at the very very minimum two offensive lineman, right? One could even argue three? Safety/CB and LB are weak classes with big RAS drop offs after the top 3-5 guys (Gutekunst historically does not pick low RAS guys early in the draft - he usually starts doing that late 3rd round). I do agree with you on the move up in the first round tho. We have 11 picks - we don't have enough roster spots for that lol.

    • @axd6337
      @axd6337 9 місяців тому

      I would be shocked if they didn't draft three OL with how many picks they have, Myers in his last year, Ryan currently a starter, and zero depth.

    • @rossuglem5535
      @rossuglem5535 9 місяців тому

      If they pick 11 times and don't sign a free agent at all on the offensive line I think they'll draft three guys. One tackle, one backup interior guy, and one guy with some guard/tackle flex like a Royce, hopefully a better player than Royce, obviously, but that type of body/player.

    Ross hear me out! Is it possible that they asked Hafley if Nixon could fit in his defense and he said yes? I agree he wasn’t good during the season but he seemed to be way better in the Playoffs, he played with his hair on fire, was around the ball more and made some nice tackles ie his sack on Prescott in the Dallas game. It seems that he he would be better in that vision and break stuff Hafley was talking about. I know I’m not very convincing but I think they have a plan for him.

      Some folks act like Nixon is a rookie that Green Bay brought in in 2022. He's not a rookie! He played three years for the Raiders before coming to Green Bay. He's going to turn 27 before Training Camp.
      Gutey says "his best football is in front of him".
      Why am I supposed to believe that after five seasons and 74 NFL games?
      Why am I supposed to believe there will be further development. Gutey can try to sell it. I ain't buying. And I'm not always right, but I'm not buying.

    • @rossuglem5535
      @rossuglem5535 9 місяців тому +1

      This is just flatly untrue and frankly irrelevant. Even on the scale of it being a difficult job, Nixon still ranked between 22nd and 28th in a 32 team league in various key metrics. The Packers have had good nickel players before.
      Just throwing hands up and saying it's not a fixable problem is a loser's mentality. If they're all bad, he's more bad than the other bad ones.
      Kyle Hamilton allowed a sub-60 completion %. So did Devon Witherspoon. The Chiefs have maybe the best nickel in the league in Trent McDuffie and they just won the Super Bowl. Seven different slot defenders allowed sub-80 passer ratings.
      Every nickel in football either missed fewer or as many tackles as Nixon. Look at what Brian Branch did in Detroit.
      "No nickels have high grades" is a fantasy land. 16 different slot defenders earned top-50 overall coverage grades from PFF (200 snap minimum).

      Not buying that. His broad jump is barely even good enough for them to be interested. It qualifies, but it's not something crazy.
      His overall athletic profile, which needs to be adjusted down because it's from a Pro Day is 92nd percentile, which is great, but it's not crazy.
      Even if you don't adjust Hall's numbers down for being from a Pro Day (and you should), Gutey has still drafted 21 players with a higher Relative Athletic Score than Hall's. He's a very good athlete, he's not an "underwear olympian".
