I lost mine this morning so I’ve been looking up videos of them as puppies. We didn’t get my hound until she was a year old so I’ve never seen a baby b&t coonhound. So beautiful. Rip Diamond I miss you
I had a black and tan as my childhood dog. We got her as a rescue and we had no idea what we were in for. That dog would literally climb our fence and take off. Found her in a tree 25’ up chasing a squirrel. She could out swim our neighbors trained black labs. I could throw a stick into the river for hours until my arm fell off and she would not stop. We moved to the boonies in northern Michigan and put in an electric fence. She didn’t care one bit. She’d take the shock and just follow a scent and be gone. Sometimes for a couple days. Really gun shy though which was weird. She lived 15 great years. Stubborn as hell and extremely athletic. Loved that dog but damn she would test you
Love our Black and Tan ! His name is Shiner and we are in the Smoky Mountains in East Tennessee . He has an amazing personality and yes if his nose hits a sent he goes with it !
Its been 6 months since I had my Coon hound and she has a little bit of blue tick in her but her name is daisy and she is the most kind hearted dog ever and she hates water for some reason Im gonna say that black and tan coon hounds are my new favorite dog breed
Had a black amd tan coonhound.... omg... wonderful dog! Yes i paniced when Elvira ran off on a scent... u could hear her...but couldn't see her....😅 always found her with neighbor's help... not used to this? Don't get one.... u will worry if u live on the country side... they will show up eventually... don't matter how vigilante u are... just their nature...😂 Good luck...🥰 remarkable breed tho...
Does your Black and Tan make an excellent jogging or running companion? How often do they get distracted by various scents when you take them out for walks? Do you find it hard to call them off once they have decided to follow a specific scent? Let us know in the comments below!
Yes to all questions....as far as walks,he is leashed,so he don't take off.. he is the best and I fell in love with this breed, and wouldn't have any other...hes protective of our other pets and family members, funny, loving, and gentle..we got him at 3 years old from a friend who relocated to another state for a job and couldn't take him ...my family took him in,and so glad we did..
I have had BnT hounds they are the best coon hound I've ever had I've hunted walkers the most hard headed dog ever blue tics English and red bones black and tans are the easiest to break I had 2 grand show champions under 12 months of age and a grand night champion their mother the only time I have ever done any compition of any kind they were out of the Cypress Creek Jim stable if anyone has had a dog out of this kennel let me know
Which ones are easiest to train and are any of them more likely to be able to be off leash trained than the others? I'm looking for a hiking and part time hunting buddy ^_^
I got into a disagreement with my friend who owns a coonhound. He literally takes his dog to the forest areas and the dog takes off and kills wildlife. My friend told me this like he was proud of him for the killing. Apparently he’s killed a bunch of raccoons etc… even a bobcat. I find this disgusting and totally irresponsible. He claims he can’t make his dog come when he’s on a scent. I told him I don’t want his dog near my animals. What’s gonna keep the dog from killing someone’s cat or smaller dogs. The dog is a big dog over 80 pounds Curious of other coonhound dog owners view on killing wildlife???
I grew up with an “outside dog” that was a black and tan coonhound. I can’t recall anytime I ever saw him take off after anything in the yard. I have a bluetick now, and she’ll start after squirrels at home but is called off easily. I take her on hikes regularly and she does fantastic off leash
My friend made it sound like it’s something in the breed that once they have a scent they block everything else out or something. Glad to hear not the case.
I lost my girl at back in November, she was 13 pushing 14. The most gentle and kind hearted dog I’ve ever had. I hope to have another in the future.

No .. I put a tracking collar on em and let em go out the dog box in the woods and run for 12 miles a night lol. You're right about the cold nose.
My dog Leah can pick up a scent (usually squirrels, rabbits and deer) and get easily distracted. Good dog but it took work and a little understanding.

The one at 5:03 looks exactly like mine
I have my retired coonhound in my house. Turn ur back on ur food. It's gone. His nose still gets him in trouble. But he's my buddy.
I have one and she is the most mellow quiet and sweet girl
I'm on my 2nd Treeing Walker ❣️
My Buddy is a mix, not quite big enough, ears a bit short, but you you will not meet a sweeter hound anywhere!

I never even allow my dog to chase or kill anything, she listens very well.

@@jonigirl1968 all it takes is a bit of training and they’ll know what they can get away with
