🤢 I PUKED My Guts Out Fishing in This Thing! 🤮 + How I Built the Trailer for my Inflatable Boat

  • Here's a description and some visuals of how I modified my boat trailer to fit an inflatable boat. The trailer is 12ft long. My Zodiac Cadet 350 Aluminum is 11 foot 6 inches long and it about the maximum length that will fit on this boat. I also took the boat out from Half Moon Bay today. It was a 4-5 ft swell at 9 seconds. This was just about the worst conditions I'll be taking the boat out in. Just wanted to test the water and my limits and see how I did with sea sickness....not so well. Details on the giveaway coming soon.

Hey Matts, the crazy kayaker here, sorry I didn't see you puked. Lol. I get sea sick all the time. I learned not to drink coffee in the morning before you go out. Take a dramamine (less drowsy) or meclizine HCL 25mg. It helps me a lot. Hope it will help you too. We have to go out together sometimes.

You need to buy motion sickness patches. They work wonders and are so simple to use. I use them every single time I've been on a boat just for protection. Many people at fishing lodges in Alaska use the patches as they're so efficient for sea sickness. I know they sell them over the counter or online like Amazon but the ones I usually get are prescription.

Get some ear plugs, but just use one in which ever ear you want. Works perfect!!!
I use to use the dramamine and the patches before. They work well, but one of the guys that was in a charter boat with me gave me an ear plug and he says try it. Man! Simple but effective. Try it and let me know bro. Good luck!! I always enjoy your videos even with vomits and all. LoL!!!

Hilarious! Had me laughing most of the video. It Reminded me of my father, he'd get sea sick and the boat hadn't left docked yet, spent most of the trip lying on the deck, but he did win the pool for catching the biggest fish. Miss that guy.

Back when I lived in So Cali, i used to take my friends out on my boat. One guy keep throwing up all the time from sea sickness. I caught all sorts of wierd things that day that I don't normally catch. I caught couple of Cabezon and an octopus. I was fishing with a lead head jig with a artificial worm using cut squid for bait. I usually dont catch cabs or octopus around the area i was at. I was fishing for halibut and sand bass.

A little tip: If you have wheels that you can roll the boat into the water with then there is no reason for you to dip the trailer. It will cut your trailers life by more than half as a result of rust. It will start with a little visible rust, then the backup lights will go and finally, the axle bearings will begin to wear and get hot from the salt water. Just a little advice from personal experience

    • @FishermansLife

My man, you should stay taking a buddy along with you you seem to be much more laid back when you got a friend tagging. You went from 0 to 100 real quick and I believe that a big reason for you often feeling sick out there is extreme anxiety then the motion sickness just takes it to another level. Regardless, thanks for uploading man. As an OG subscriber it doesn't matter what you're doing or if you catch anything. Of course the catch and cooks are the best but we invest into you as a person and feed off your genuinely positive energy so at the end of the day an upload going catchless is better than no upload at all. Thanks for sharing and always keeping it real dog.

If you get sick look at the land don't look in the boat it can help. Swell is the worst if you do get sea sick But there are plenty of bands, patches, tablets that can help prevent it you just have to find the best one. You should just get used to the motion over time.

Matt's, that was brave of you to challenge yourself with 4' swells 9 sec. apart! That's too much in the Zodiac. Not so bad in a bigger boat, but you gave it your best shot!
I highly recommend getting the Transderm Patch for motion sickness, stick it on behind your ear before you go to bed. Good stuff! Same patch I wore when we fished Ish's Rockcod/Lingcod Tournament trip!
Good job on the video and especially for keeping it real!

Sorry about your sea sickness. I feel for you. I have a 17 ft. sea kayak that I have taken out that very harbor with 17 to 20 ft swells with waves on top of them. I went out about 2 miles and the current was taking me north into the swells. I had fishing gear, but it was really to rough. It was taking all I had to just keep my Yak up right. After about 2 hours I turned around and started paddling back to the harbour. Now the fun part. As I was picking up speed, I was going fast enough to start riding (surfing) those BIG swells. Will I do that again... Not a chance in hell lol. I think the angels was looking out for me that day. Great vids keep um coming.

  • @BenChung78
    @BenChung78 6 років тому +4

kayakers and boaters have a rough time in heavy surf...and most of us get seasick and puke...in my case puked 3 times in the span of 5 minutes...couldn't get myself to fish the rest of the day...I was wondering whether it was worth it or not for that trip. Decided that any swell larger than 3 feet with any period more frequent than 10 seconds means that there will be some seasickness...which means that more than half of our days off cannot be set aside for kayaking since half the time the swell is just to large and the period too frequent....all about the weather and timing.

Love the fact you kept it real by leaving in the vomit and not editing it out hahah .. man I really appreciate that level of realness. Great short video! Is there anyway you can give a few of those hats and t-shirts away to your online audience? I know you would incur shipping charges plus additional time but would be very cool to get one of those hats or t-shirts! A big fan - Tom in Kansas City. BTW, I used to live in the Bay area. We would go out all the time to catch Shark and other fish off many of the piers that dot the bay. So windy but great fun! I used to fish the Sacramento river as well but the lead content is so high you were only allowed to eat one fish per year! Not even kidding you. One last thing now that I am thinking about it. I was born in Oceanside and my mom told me that when she was younger she was dive for abalone. Somewhere we have pictures of my mom in a black wet-suit back in the late 60's and early 70's when she was maybe 26, 27 or 28. Thanks again for the videos!

Spent most of my life enjoying summers in boats and never even thought about getting sea sick. I figured it just wouldn't happen to me. Well...until me and a friend were cat fishing on a very windy night. We were in a 10' boat anchored in the center of about a 20 acre little lake of all things. It was just such a fast short chop that the boat fit right in between and fell in to over and over and over. I looked at my buddy after noticing he'd been silent for quite a while and so was I, I said dude should we leave. He quickly said yes and we both agreed that it was strange because neither of us had ever been sea sick and we both had been boating together since we're were kids. I think I was about 30 then and it hasn't happened again but I always worry that it might.

keep well hydrated and then anything sweet with ginger in it, ginger ale, ginger biscuits, crystalized ginger etc and then if you do start puking then drink lemonade lots of it, it doesn't stop the puking but at least it tastes ok coming back. Our whole family is pretty good at sea except one nephew who basically is sick the whole time but comes anyway because he loves to fish because of his stoic attitude he is always welcome on my boat he never complains and always wants to stay longer. Only person I have ever seen puke with a smile on his face while playing a big fish and not put the rod down.

If you can get a line secured to the stern of your boat, you can probably pull it off the trailer without having to step in the water. Also, depending on how waterproof your trailer electronics are, I'd suggest backing it into the water further. It will make your launches/retrievals easier.

Thanks for the great tips on modifying the trailer. I just ordered a new boat and was figuring out how I was going to support it on the trailer and came across your video. It seems like if you just angled the outer bunks that would be enough to lock the boat in. I'm not sure you need a double "V", but not saying it could hurt either, just extra dollars to install. I think the vertical supports are something like $40 for a set of four, and then you have bunk carpet, wood, etc. it adds up. I'm thinking maybe just one 2 x 8 on each side angled should work well enough, but I love the super strut idea. I wasn't sure how is going to support the front of the boat, and your idea is great.
As to the motion sickness, it only happened to me once in Valdez Alaska. As one other person mentioned anxiety can really contribute. Going out on the ocean by yourself can be rather intimidating, especially if it's a new spot. I found that staring at the horizon helped a lot. The less I concentrated on the water the better. I find that ginger really helps my stomach. Of course just avoiding 4 foot swells may be the ticket too. I like lakes and rivers!

I think the set of two boards like you said would work great. The boat should stay rigid enough so it doesn't bend between the bunk boards. Just gotta make sure the boat is nice and inflated

I came across this website yesterday (www.castlecraft.com/large_inflatables_trailer.htm)
and it's very similar to how you did your own. May give some others ideals as well.
I'm assuming the double layer of super strut was necessary for keel clearance? Otherwise, one layer I would think would be enough, and of course the higher you get that thing off the trailer the further you have to back your trailer into the water to launch.
I actually have a 16 foot trailer for my 12 foot boat. It really helps out when the water is shallow, as the back tires of the car don't end up in the river! And yes, even with the 16 foot trailer sometimes I come pretty close to that happening.

You need to get a aluminum flat bottom boat if you get sea sick it's much more smoother and sea worthy I promise you won't be disappointed you can use the motor that you have and you will have a starring wheel unless you want it how your set up is but as much fishing as you do you would love it

Don’t look at the sonar - watch the horizon instead. And catch fish, it’s the surest cure. As for kayakers, at least a quarter of the kayakers I fish with get seasick (fortunately I don’t).
    Nice job on the trailer.

Hey Matts nice boat and awesome channel. Keep up the great work.
I have a 14ft inflatable setup with downriggers. With the downriggers you can troll with your bait at exact depths. This is the only way to get down deep enough without huge waits and a ton of line out. I couldn't catch salmon until I got the downriggers setup.
I have a 1x6 board across the boat tubes just in front of where I sit. The board sits on top of the tubes and is strapped down on each side to a couple of metal loops mounted on the aluminium floor. The board hangs over the edge of the boat just enough to mount 2 manual scotty downriggers on each end. I think if I did it again I'd get the long arm downriggers so I don't have to mount the downriggers so far out.
Anyway this is how I finally got success trolling for salmon in Vancouver BC.
    Good luck out there.

The best way to fight sea sickness is to look far away from the horizon. Or back to back fishing trips within 2 to 4 days
