If I could say, what a joy it's been to see you develop your passion for gaming and VR and where it has taken you. So happy for you! Though we don't own a Quest (never have) what we do have - started with PSVR1 and Samsung Odyssey, then Valve Index, HP Reverb G2, HTC Vive Pro 2 and our daily driver now, Varjo Aero - we are excited to see PSVR2. We gave PS4 and PSVR1 setup to son and grandkids, but now hope someone can get PSVR2 working on PC in the near future. As an aside, Question; Bigscreen Beyond VR being so tiny, and me needing 125 readers with Aero, is that an issue with their VR setup?
Wow that’s amazing! You have an epic collection of headsets there. Beyond might be an issue for you although they are offering prescription lenses inserts []-)
I've never played any VR before. I've been gaming for 27 years and always dreamed of the day when I would get to play on an awesome VR headset. Got PSVR2 ordered along with Call of the Mountain, RE8, GT7, No Man's Sky and Kayak VR. Only one week left I'm hyped!
So excited for you mate!! Please please please take it easy at first and don’t push yourself too hard. It can be super intense the very first time. If you start to feel rough, take a break right away []-)
Welcome brother, I am sooo excited for you. I couldn't imagine never having experienced VR to go straight to a PSVR2. I hope Sony is able to bring Half-Life Alyx to the system because you are in for a treat. I think the VR Star Wars games are overlooked...as a kid of the 80s they were a revelation to me! Give yourself time to adjust to VR. Please don't give up if you initially experience motion sickness. If you do feel it,stop and try again the next day. After a bit of time you will have your digital legs under you. You may even experience what many new VR players feel, feeling strange after you are back in meatspace. Enjoy this wild feeling because it is fleeting! PLUR! See you downstream soon!
Dude, be careful with RE8. I know it looks like any other experience when you watch people play it in VR, but let me warn you...IMO, Horror is the most immersive genre in VR. You will not believe how scared you can't be from a bunch of ones and zeros. I legit almost had a heartattack playing Dreadhalls and that was on a 3 dof Oculus GO!
Great review thanks, looking forward to my pre-order arriving, just bought the PS5 especially for the PSVR2. The future for content is looking bright 😁👍
Great review. I'm curious to find out if Cinematic Mode works better this time, I remember in the PSVR 1 the Cinematic Mode the display would keep slowly shifting sideways and I had to keep resetting the view every couple of minutes. I think that was because the original PSVR didn't have internal camera tracking. With the PSVR 2 having internal camera tracking I hope CM will be a smoother and more pleasant experience.
Another solid review Mike. Great detail and nicely balanced. I cant wait for next week. Horizon looks awesome and its been a while since I last played GT7 so looking forward to getting back into that in VR.
I just hope we get either PCVR support or VRChat comes to the VR2 in the future, I would absolutely love to use the eye tracking for that. (Yes, I know the Vive Pro Eye exists, but still)
They won't add PC support. They are trying to sell this hardware for games that will mainly be available on their platform. They are doing the same as Meta. Divide the market.
@@shinobusensui9395 this makes zero since..they could add pc suport if htey wanted, but you STILL need a ps5 to set it up right? even if you dont and you could set it up on pc, they would sell there own games that the psvr2 plays...i want to play vrchat, but i guess its not on psvr2? sucks tho
@@aaronclay4665 it makes 100% from a business sense. They have a platform that they want to push people to. $550 is alot to earn but people paying $30 - $60 for games released on thier store goes a much longer way. Theirs no questions that many of their games could be ported to pc if not already available as PCVR. Its no different than Nintendo restricted their classic ips to their store. They are simply emulated games, people are doing it free on pc so its proven it works. There are people asking nintendo to do it on pc and they are willing to pay, Nintendo still doesn't do it.
I preordered the CotM Bundle and charging station. On top of that, I have RE8, No Man's Sky, Moss Book 1, and Star Wars to play. I am beyond excited being this is my 1st venture into VR
I feel like this is just about as honest as a review can be. I truly appreciate that. I am coming into the VR world with very limited experience and have never personally owned any of the other VR headsets that are currently available. I am a quick learner so hopefully that will help me jumping in but I was just never that interested in VR. #2 has sparked my interest and while the negatives you mentioned seem tad annoying I am still pretty excited to jump into this! Thanks again
As a high-level hardware engineer has been interested in this technology for a long time. I truly believe we're at the cusp of vr going truly viral - their first headset was phenomenal at the time but not graphically impressive enough for a true widespread mainstream appeal. This one is going to be significantly, significantly better looking and more crisp
Only get the psvr headset if you already have a ps5, and if you already have a PC go for a PC headset, the game lineup for psvr has and most likely will stay relatively pathetic
@@teetnus3458 your talking about psvr, when this isn’t the psvr this thing has better hardware and with actual controls this time it’ll be easier to port games over. Your just judging it based off it’s predecessor when it’s nothing compared to it. They’ve been cranking out trailer after trailer for games since launch and everything shown so far is set to release within the launch window of 1 month. In 1 month of release it will already have a bigger game library than the stand alone quest that’s been out for years. Atleast wait a year and give the device a chance before making bullshit claims like “the gaming library is gonna stay pathetic” you just come across as a salty pc elitist…..
Wow, great review. You cover the headset lenses / ghosting / reprojection stuff that I’ve been curious about and that even big sites like Eurogamer and IGN can’t be bothered to mention. Thank you. Can’t wait to get mine. I really hope the ghosting is not too bad…
OLED HMDs all have this problem, its very distracting and the main reason companies stopped using them since 2016. Sony has no clue what they are doing.
Great and honest review, aside from the minor nitpicks we're extremely lucky that Sony have invested and second tome around. I'm fairly sure once the headset is released to the masses small yet quality of life changes will be made
I do think that some things like controller tracking will be improved in the future. Quest 2 at this point in time, for instance, tracks *much* better than it did during its launch window due to improvements to the tracking algorithms.
I found using the safety boundary was perfect for pausing to or offering someone else a shot . You step out of the boundary the game pauses and the forward camera go's on. Awesome..I love it
Great video! Still a bit on the fence with PSVR2, while still owning a Quest 2 with PCVR. The features look amazing and hope to see eye tracking and OLED become more common going forward.
I reccomend waiting for the quest 3 (leaked for later this year). It seems like an all round improvement to the psvr 2, at the same price of the quest 2
To many games. The one game I'm dying to play is hellsplit arena and that vampire game where you make a creepy hotel. Think of that monate hotel movie but creepy.
Great Review Mike ! TY. Hope you see this cause I had a question about the adjustable lens for people with very narrow IPD(58) and the bridge of my nose hitting the lens housing. Like you I NEVER want to back the lenses off my eyes, since it gives the best vision / immersion. But I have seen on other headsets (Quest one) where the bridge of my nose would slowly push the IPD wider and wider quickly as I play, since quest one didn't have "locked" IPD sections. Do you think this will be a problem with PSVR2? Or can you not push the lenses very easily by accident? Thank You again for your coverage! Great to see VR getting more great Hardware!
Here we go!!!!!!! The single charging cable is baffling though, I brought that up as one of my silly concerns on my podcast and thought I was probably just being paranoid but it turns out I was right to be, dunno how I'm gonna charge them both at the same time.
Why is this even an issue in reality? If you have any spare USB C (fast charging) leads from mobile phones that are not being used. I have acquired several over the years. They obviously can be used. I charge my dual sense controller either separately from the wall socket or an extension lead if the PS 5 usb C port is charging my Pulse 3d headset at the same time. Any good quality fast charging USB C lead will suffice. Everyone thinks they need a dedicated charging unit for the Sense controllers but this is not correct. A simple fast charging USB C lead will suffice. Hopefully one less silly concern? Hope that's helpful?
Looks like it's going to be REALLY awesome. Hope it manages to get a huge install base, so we can get lots and lots of new VR content! Also, this is thinking way ahead, but seems like the kind of device that might still run well on the PS6, considering it's basically the TV, not the gaming system itself.
Wooohoo!!! You’re back!!! I missed you sooo much. :). I am so amped for psvr2. I demolished re8 and yet I am ready to get back into it. :). I am just so excited !! :)
New viewer here and I just wanted to say thanks for this very detailled and great review! Much more enjoyable than those of some big outlets (who don't focus on VR gaming).
@@VirtualRealityOasis Q: Do you need to plug the Pulse 3D to die 3.5 mm jack, or just normal with the USB dongle? Which method is recommended in the unser manual? Thanks!
@@andymuc9171 idk, but m guess is just the dongle works since its hooked up to the playstaion when he had it on his head it didnt look like he had it hooked up to anything
I'm compelled to say *thank you* for not striking the PSVR2's review down a notch or two simply because of the price of the product itself. I've seen countless reviews that factor the price tag explicitly as a negative, which I find absolutely conflicting because the PS5 itself didn't get dinged for technically requiring an external monitor (i.e., if you want to play PS5 in 4K, you must also spend more money on a TV or display, & likely vastly more for a 4K display). What's worse is if we were comparing the PSVR2 with any comparable display, it's essentially an inescapable steal at 2K & 120hz for $500. 🤷🤷♂🤷♀
Nice review. For some people, this might be their very first VR headset. For those I would recommend looking at a few beginners guides. (maybe Mike should make an updated one) Especially if you are new to VR and have bought the horizon bundle. Take it easy at first. Motion sickness can kick in pretty quickly when you are a beginner. If you start to get light headed, stop immediately and take a break. Worst thing you can do is try and power through it, as it just makes it way worse. Then you will be out for the rest of the day. Getting the sweats is one of the first signs. It may take some time, but the more you play, the quicker you will get used to it. Once you have your VR legs though, nothing can stop you. Nothing in VR makes me motion sick now. But I am an 8 year VR veteran.
@@VirtualRealityOasis Quick question. Do the Pulse 3d headphones need to be plugged into the headset, or do they work wireless ? I was disappointed last gen when my old Sony Gold headset would only work when jacked in and not wireless, when using PSVR. I bought the Pulse 3d several months ago.
Great review, excited if I can extend the value of my PS5 and not have to buy a new PC rig! I have a question if you might be able to help: IPD range? I got a bit nervous when you mentioned the small sweet spot. I've apparently got a tiny head and have trouble with both the Vive Pro and Reverb G2, can only line up one eye properly.
The PSVR2 is a headset packed with lots of good tech especially for the price. I wish they would make pc compatibility with it, but I guess for now I'm sticking with the Pico 4. Thanks for another great vr review!
Right they would make money off of me maybe one day they will since the ps5 controller works fine on pc it even has its own app to do a firmware update
My favorite thing about theatre mode is that every single review I've seen has covered it and every single one of them has said "no one of talking about this"
Thank you Mike for this video. My pre-order has pulled today which has me super excited. Hopefully we can get a second headset so my (18 year old) son can play with me. Sony limited the preorders to one per household which was kind of a bummer, but hey, I get mine first. Ha Ha. Solid review. I can't wait.
Thank you for the review. Thank you for touching on the Cinematic mode. So far i've not seen anyone else touch on it. Would have been nice to have heard just a smidge more, for example. What did you think of the quality of the image? Did you watch any youtube/video content? Appreciate you sticking up for the cable and talking about the value for money aspect. So many reviewers from other 'mainstream' outlets seem to be contradicting themselves a fair bit with this aspect. Also using the Cable as a detractor. (Did you see The Verge's Review!? Jeezus) anyway thank you for your honest opinions. I'm certainly not going in blinkered that this thing is going to be completely perfect but it's nice to hear it's a worthwhile investment.
Good review. Seems like a well thought through headset. Not that I'm likely to get it or a PS5, but it's got promising ideas that I hope PC headsets will adopt.
Eye tracking is not important to anyone. Vive Pro Eye has been around for years and no vr game studios care about Eye tracking outside vrchat and Facebook horizons. The rest of the PSVR2s features can be found on any PCVR system and standalone.
@@sqlevolicious Again with the nonsense, stop your BS my guy. You're not convincing anybody lmao😂 All reviewers including Digital foundry and NXgamer have tested eyetracking and foveated rendering and they say it's a gamechanger. Even the pavlov devs said with eyetracking and FoVR they are getting 10% better performance than their high end PC! It not being used in PCVR is because non of these companies give a shit about PCVR. We are lucky to have the modding community otherwise PCVR would've been burried a long time ago. So again stop your bullshit crusade and go play your little PCVR library and go wave your knuckles around😂

Great review, Defo convinced me i will get one in the next month or so, plus the real game changing element of this is devs can now get their teeth into much higher grade PC level VR Games! Good for everyone and ports!. I hope the ghosting when smooth moving can be fixed with software maybe with some FSR to smooth things out? I am also glad you touched on the using the headset as a tv replacement playing flat 2D PS5 games, though 1080p?? jez I hope this also improves with software!
You mentioned briefly about controller standardisation. My only gripe is that grip button is not a trigger but button. Which is step down from standard. Sure not a lot games are using it in analogue way but still it could put some restriction on how games are ported between systems. Anyway thanks for awesome review. Very valuable for long time VR user.
Nice to see Sony doing their homework. Looks like a really neat package. Hopefully it gets some of the awesome games we've been privy to on PC. HL: Alyx should be a no-brainer for Valve.

Come on, what is the max IPD setting? I know the headset doesn't tell you, but can't you measure it with a tape measure to the centre of the lense housing? I have a large IPD, and I need to know before I even think of getting this headset, although I want to get one, but it would be a waste for me if the IPD is too small and if the lense have a small sweet spot.
cheers, good review. I agree re the screen door and lense sweet spot which was easy to notice in GT7 probably because of the contrast between the windscreen and the interior of the car, and I had to turn my head slightly for the menu items in the far corners of the screen since they were slightly out of focus, but I'll be using the headset for GT7 from now on as it is still a huge improvement - you know it when you hit the crest of a hill. I did try readjusting and recalibrating and maybe it's just my head. REV on the other hand - bloody amazing on PSVR2, but I have only just started it.
I don't understand why they just didn't put cameras in the controllers smh hopefully in the future they come out with some controllers that track themselves I wouldn't mind paying for that upgrade.
You said the cinematic mode is not widely reported on… and then gave it less than 10 second coverage. Please have some more coverage on it, how large is the virtual screen, is it hard to read the text, clarity at 1080p, etc. thanks
Great video, awesome info as always Virtual Reality Oasis 👍. I'm soooo hyped to play this bad boy VR headset!! Waiting on mines to be shipped to me!!! Great work as always my VR friend
I am concerned with what you said about the small sweetspot. It was the reason i sent back the HP reverb g2. Could you possibly elaborate on how it affects your experience? I am worried that due to the eye tracking we are encouraged to look off center to follow things but then are wandering off of the sweetspot just to face annoyance with the lack of sharpness.
Mine arrived 10am on the 22nd. Loving it. 1 design flaw though, the cable end that goes into the headset can unplug very easily if you just push the helmet up and off.
For the few of us who care I would LOVE to see 3D bluray capability added to the ps5 for PSVR2 3D movie watching. Titles are still trickling out in Europe so why not?
Imagine if a developer made heat vision where lasers come from your eyes, that would be so sick!
Or even x-ray vision where you only see through the part you are looking at with your eyes, could create a cool illusion
Blade and sorcery has that mod
What the hell? 😂😂
We need Insomniac to make a Cyclops game with this tech.
The same thing came to my mind as well

Great review! I'm so hyped. I can't stand the wait anymore!
Great review. I got the PSVR2 for the Star Wars VR and Call of Mountain. My family know it’s my bday coming up so they can get me these games
Same boat (kayak?) as you!
So excited for you mate!! Please please please take it easy at first and don’t push yourself too hard. It can be super intense the very first time. If you start to feel rough, take a break right away []-)
@@VirtualRealityOasis good advice thanks! I am a little worried about getting motion sick but hopefully don't have any issues. Thanks for the content!
I got too excited about GT7 and bought a wheel and seat setup lol I can’t wait! Have fun mate []-)
@@VirtualRealityOasissame mate, can’t wait for some gt7 content
@@VirtualRealityOasis You too. I saw your wheel setup. Looks amazing. Puts my dual shock to shame 😂
When I play VR 2, the controller gives me a white signal. Is this normal?
I just hope we get either PCVR support or VRChat comes to the VR2 in the future, I would absolutely love to use the eye tracking for that. (Yes, I know the Vive Pro Eye exists, but still)
I'd play the heck outta vrchat on psvr2
Also the positive side of Fresnel lenses is that there is often very little distortion compared to smooth ones.
Love your channel so much you always give out great details especially with the new psvr 2.
I can't wait to get it
I preordered the CotM Bundle and charging station.
@@aeriagloris4211 I agree! Thanks for the input ;-)
@@dbzcollector9963 nope, my comment applies to both psvr headsets
You are officially my go to now for all things VR.
Great video as always, thanks.
@@sqlevolicious lol you are a tool. No, that's not the main reason. The main reason is Price and subpixel density.
Thank you for honest review. I am very excited to get the PSVR2, its like experiencing VR for the first time again!.
Fantastic fair review. The psvr2 sounds brilliant. Can’t wait.
Thanks for covering cinematic mode. I loved that feature of the first PSVR. It's really good with retro and indie games that have simpler graphics.
Thank you so much for the full review. You've just fully convinced me to buy it! Also love ya content.
Enjoy it mate []-)
I found using the safety boundary was perfect for pausing to or offering someone else a shot . You step out of the boundary the game pauses and the forward camera go's on. Awesome..I love it
Thanks for taking your time to entertain us! I find you to be very helpful, keep it up!
Great video! Still a bit on the fence with PSVR2, while still owning a Quest 2 with PCVR. The features look amazing and hope to see eye tracking and OLED become more common going forward.
We can wait and see how it develops.
Same.
If it ever were to be modified to be PC compatible somehow I’d probably drop my Q2 very quickly
You can use to play non vr games as well so a second screen
I reccomend waiting for the quest 3 (leaked for later this year).
It seems like an all round improvement to the psvr 2, at the same price of the quest 2
Great review mike I was hoping the battery life was going to be longer. Have you tested the charging time?
Great review for the experienced VR user unlike most of the reviews. Really appreciated the charging doc recommendation adding that to the order.
Great review. Very excited to pick up one of these headsets.
Have fun mate []-)
Arent pancake lenses downside is that they can not produce a bright vivid image?
The headset honestly looks amazing, hopefully I can get it in the future
However how many games are currently on it?
There's like 30+ launch games. And more coming next month
For me, you are the Max authority in VR in all UA-cam. Thanks for this amazing Review. I just pre order the PS VR2. Cheers from Chihuahua, Mexico!
Thanks so much mate, I really appreciate it []-)
"After the Fall" is coming to PSVR2, so that should help keep people busy for a bit.
Thank you for an honest unbiased review! You always knock it out of the park! I won’t be getting a PSVR 2 but appreciate your review!
Awesome review and thank you for the in-depth image quality details ;) Exactly what I wanted to know ^_^
Thanks for mentioning your glasses. That was my biggest burning question about this headset
New viewer here and I just wanted to say thanks for this very detailled and great review! Much more enjoyable than those of some big outlets (who don't focus on VR gaming).
Thanks so much and welcome mate []-)

Q: Do you need to plug the Pulse 3D to die 3.5 mm jack, or just normal with the USB dongle?
Which method is recommended in the unser manual?

15:33 holy crap, the rope even has small threads sticking out from it, incredible detail
I love your reviews! Now I can’t wait even more to get my unit 😁
Nailed it. Great review Mike 👍
I’m glad I waited on buying the ps vr I was waiting for the price to go down but now that this has come out it’s so much more worth it
Nice review.
Absolutely mate, this is great advice and I plan to add this info to an upcoming video []-)
@@VirtualRealityOasis Quick question. Do the Pulse 3d headphones need to be plugged into the headset, or do they work wireless ? I was disappointed last gen when my old Sony Gold headset would only work when jacked in and not wireless, when using PSVR. I bought the Pulse 3d several months ago.
wat do you mean by VR legs?
@@kill3rbyysight When you get to the point where VR doesn't make you motion sick. That's what is known as gaining your VR legs.
@@Crynomical The possibility of Sony making support is very low, but I know once the right people get ahold of it, they'll find a way to make it work.

You and your son are gonna have blast mate. Do you plan to play any multiplayer stuff together?? Demeo and racing in GT7 would be really fun! []-)
i think they did the one per household cuz of the scalpers problem with the ps5.
Jeezus)
anyway thank you for your honest opinions. I'm certainly not going in blinkered that this thing is going to be completely perfect but it's nice to hear it's a worthwhile investment.
Great Review! I'm even more excited 😊.
@@sqlevolicious eye tracking could be really important if it allows demanding games to run at decent framerate on ps5 equivalent hardware, it means not having to buy both an expensive headset and a very expensive graphics card
Can't wait till it arrives. My first VR set so I'm happy to see the positive reviews. I only hope to someday play HL Alyx on this thing too.

Now i want my headset Even more vid mike number 4 this week amazing job
Excelent review, as always. 😎👊
Thank you so much []-)
I think they have to enable a new eye setup if you touch the dial. In our house, the IPD will vary a lot between 5 players.
Definitely seems like a game changer!
cheers, good review.
Only headset that has that costs 1500 dollars. Cost is why.
Smooth turning issues IS a deal breaker for me.
I am worried that due to the eye tracking we are encouraged to look off center to follow things but then are wandering off of the sweetspot just to face annoyance with the lack of sharpness.
using it instead of the tv is whats tempting me
Mine arrived 10am on the 22nd. Loving it. 1 design flaw though, the cable end that goes into the headset can unplug very easily if you just push the helmet up and off.
I loved this video. Thank you so much for your excellent review! Too bad you didn't get an early Gran Turismo to look at.
Nicely done! Can't wait until my headset arrives!!
For the few of us who care I would LOVE to see 3D bluray capability added to the ps5 for PSVR2 3D movie watching. Titles are still trickling out in Europe so why not?
Oh thats cool. Pass through shows you which controller is which.
I still like and am impressed with the original vr on a base PS4. Looks like it's time to upgrade
