  • Brown County and Nashville Indiana | South of Indianapolis and an Amazing Place to Visit... or live if you desire. Indianapolis, Indiana has more to offer than what many people think. The park system in Indianapolis is actually quite good for a midwestern city. Eagle Creek Park on the Indiananpolis northwest side is a great example. It's one of the largest municipal parks in the country. However, to get into some incredible state parks in Indiana you'll need to travel just a little south of Indianapolis. Brown County State Park and Nashville Indiana are fantastic examples of what Indiana can offer you and they surprise many people. Many who aren't from Indiana can't believe what some of Indianapolis looks like and are especially surprised as to what southern Indiana looks like. It's hillier and more lush and tree covered than what they expected. In this video I've traveled about an hour south of Indianapolis to one of my absolute favorite places to visit. Brown County State Park just barely west of Nashville, Indiana.

I spent the formative years of my life in southern Indiana, you’re correct it’s very beautiful. I’ve lived everywhere from the southern United States, to the northwest, and Indiana has its own type of beauty. Thank you for showing us brown county and the state park.

I was a student at IU in the 70s ...
Used to do mushrooms and take the Volks out to Brown County ...
One afternoon, I stopped at Peterson's Deli on the way out there just after doing some Psylliciben ...
I lost it in Peterson's and could not stop laughing ... arguably THE most fun and interesting day of my life!

Nashville is a jewel between two other great Indiana cities: Bloomington and Columbus. Bloomington of course in part because of IU but also distant beautiful hilly setting as well. And Columbus is popular with the architects in that they've had a lot of famous architects to build some world-class architecture throughout the city. There was also a really good indie movie called Columbus around 2017 based in the city worth watching.
Your videos are great Chris, keep it up!

Besides that movie, it's the only time I've ever heard someone say something nice about Columbus. The "architecture" is square boxes mostly lol. Also the best part about that movie is one of the alleys they walked down. It's the the nastiest alley in the city. You can regularly find faded out people up and down it and syringes laying everywhere. Its meth alley.

Used to be a beautiful place...Last time I was there, all the beautiful creeks and the roadside forest were all gone... The last memory was strip malls and motels..💔😞

This is a nice explanation. I am from Brown County and now live in Los Angeles. Trying to explain to people in LA where I am from is very hard because they expect it to be flat and farmland. I can’t tell you how many times I have explained the ice age and glacier melt to people in order to explain the geography.

You're a "True Hoosier", Chris! Thanks for the series. Kiddingly...a squirrel never hitting the ground in Indiana while it's traveling from Illinois to Ohio. That's funny.
My grandparents on my mom's side had a "cabin" and two homes in that county back in the 50's through most of the 1970's. Fun memories to my siblings and me way back then. Cordry Lake was named after them.
Many weekend trips from Indy to Nashville, Indiana we had. Most in the fall. Had a couple of "dates" there in the Spring of '72 and the "dead of winter" in January of '71. Not much going on there, of course...even way back then, but fun and memorable. I love the county. Great memories.

Chris is right about the trees though. You know how LaPorte Indiana got its name? When the French traveled from south to north that area was the first break in the trees they came across: LaPorte or the door in French.

I've lived in indiana for about 8 years. I thinks it's stunning in the fall. But from November to about April is dreadful. Brown county is amazing good video

It can be tough from Nov to April but it's much worse just a little to the north. You're right about the fall... it's pretty hard to beat.
