    Put a Queen in a palace, she will keep it like a palace.
    Put a pig in a palace, it will turn it into a pigsty.
    Don't blame the location. The location doesn't know where it is.
    A town is made into what it is or isn't by it's people. Pure and simple.

    • @zzcanasta
      @zzcanasta 2 роки тому +1

      And what if the 'pigs' don't have the same resources as the 'queens' due to generational unemployment caused by the collapse of the industries that once sustained them, coupled with massive under-investment in local housing, public spaces, education, transport, etc? I know it's comforting to adopt the 'Daily Mail' view of the world whereby the blame for all social ills is laid at the feet of the victims rather than the perpetrators, but as Oscar Wilde pointed out, 'The truth is rarely pure and never simple.'

      I had this argument with an American that lived in a Ghetto. He was telling me how my race is responsible for his poor lifestyle. I asked what the problems were in his neighbourhood. He gave me a list of all the usual antisocial behaviour that you find in those kind of places. He confirmed that nobody of my race lives there. So I asked, so who is carrying oiut all this anti social behaviour? That's when he stopped talking to me.

      Noel, you have hit the nail on the head with your London towns! You would have to LEAVE UK to see anything remotely as miserable and decrepit as Ilford, Barking, Dagenham and Havering in general! Worked in the Telecom building in Ilford for 9 years, and wanted to kill myself, or the general population of Ilford in its entirety and start again! I would not wish it on my enemies! On a plus point- I am fast tracked to heaven! After all, you can only do purgatory once! 😂😂🤣😂🤣🤣

    I am afraid many areas of Londonistan are now so dark and dystopian, that they are considered no go. This is of course due to the dangerous nature of these places and the fact that law enforcement is very reluctant to intervene in case of the abuse of women and children, which has been the case in many northern towns, mentioned here in this video.

    It's significant that all of these 'crap' towns are in the North of England. ie North of the North-South divide and indicative of the lack of investment from successive Governments in the North of England. Let's hope the current Government's 'Levelling Up' initiatives help to make these places (and many others in the North of England) more liveable and prosperous. But as a proud Northerner of England, I won't hold my breath.

    • @gainsbourg66
      @gainsbourg66 Рік тому

      It's not just investment. The problem is, as older generations have died off, so has pride in England, pride of neighbourhood, pride in beautiful old buildings, pride in older industrial buildings and infastructure. Instead we have grey modernism, toy town colours, giant, galvanised metal sheds instead of brick factories, left wing councils. All the beautiful old chimneys and huge brick buildings demolished. The old industries have been decimated by foolish government policies, causing lack of skills and people on benefits or with rubbish jobs. Worst of all the natives have been displaced from their streets and neighbouroods by immigrants who care nothing for our heritage or customs.

      I am from Blackburn. They weren't lying it is very grim and has got grimmer. Fed up of boy racers in b ws etc the takeaway photos are true. Too many opening and closing within 2 years. The takeaway cartons are like tumbleweed, the takeaways smell of cannabis as you pass them. As soon as I saw the photo of takeaways I said Blackburn straight off. Its full of zombies and hostels encourage more. The guy sat in the town centre is one decent honest guy sat there with his dog. They didn't need to make him look like he is a problem. He's one of nature's harmless gents and loves his dog it's a ghost town most of the time , the takeaways could do with closing down, too many of the same food and you hardly see anyone in them. Guess how they stay open. Same with the taxis where the drivers can't drive properly and cut in front of you. Car insurance is one of the highest in the country and its cash for crash claimants making it so

    It’s unfair how blackpool gets a lot of stick and I do Iive there and ,yes, it has its problems yet it has the highest number of visitors each year - isn’t that strange ? - especially when you consider it has a beach , a tower with entertainment (inc a ballroom, zoo , 4d theatre and a horror themed attraction at its base) , a large theme park with shows and ice skating , traditional trams and full of entertainment and events and relatively cheap and has a lovely Park , golf course and nature reserve with a zoo attached and another 4 beautiful reserved seaside resorts right beside it with there own parks and events and it’s also close to Southport and Lancaster , morcambe and the peak and Lake District and the season last now till January with the Christmas area . Airshows, fireworks championships , amusements , tons of places to eat , outdoor pubs and loads of clubs , indoor water slide park , illuminations , 3 piers with rides , concerts , town shopping centre, lovely countryside scenery behind it , shows , theatre etc - yeah it’s a terrible place lol - yeah it has its problems like a lot of towns in the uk but tell me does your town offer all this ?
    Problem with it is that because it’s a nice place near the sea it attracts a lot of undesirables who just want to have an easy life there and beg and take dr.gs and claim benefits and cause problems , antis.ocial mentality and cause problems , 2) people don’t live as long here - yes because of these dr.gs and just living on the fast food at the front and no exercise but yet there are loads of shops offering healthier food like anywhere else but people just want it easy - it’s up to people to take responsibility for there health , 3) it’s cheaper to go abroad and you get the weather - true but it depends on how much you want to spend here - you can still have a perfectly cheap holiday or just a nice day out here if your not constantly spending on the entertainment all the time (even though tempting) but going on the beach and walking the illuminations or Stanley park at the back and enjoying some of the free entertainment like the Christmas festival and fireworks events and some of the B and B ‘s at the back are pretty cheap to stay in etc and you can still spend a fortune abroad as well - it’s worth it if the weather is nice but like anywhere else it can be very variable and that’s the main issue for me the poor uk weather , 4) Less jobs and opportunities than in cities - but that’s the same with all towns in the uk and it has more jobs than in most seaside resorts with seasonal employment as well and there are still plenty of businesses and we have blackpool college offering degree courses and the work is there if your willing to try a bit harder but it depends upon what your looking for , 5) some places look rundown- yeah - not enough money coming in it seems even though we backed labour - but there are still many nice places just like anywhere else if you go further back past those roads immediately behind the promenade you’ll see it just looks as nice and as normal as anywhere else - Stanley park area is beautiful, 6) stag and hen party’s - nothing wrong with that in my opinion as young people just having a good time and adds a bit of zest to the place - you’d have to be pretty miserabl to object to this as long as they aren’t causing trouble who cares - better than people walking round miserabl. , 7) quiet and gloomy in winter - perhaps - but tell me where there’s a town in the uk in the north that isn’t though but even then you still can have bright days out eg walking along the beach and the amusements and piers can still be open even at night especially how we now have the Xmas area with its entertainment and rides on till early January and we still have the town centre shopping and shows and cafes and bars and cinema etc and they are going to build an all year indoor entertainment complex in the former large car park area which will have markets, rides and cafes etc .
    Just fedup with people giving the place bad rap just because of a few negative experiences they’ve had here on a day out without mentioning all the good things as well .
    Cheers

I will say however I lived near Southend-on -Sea for most of my childhood and young adult life. I can tell you that in the fifties and just into the sixties Southend once had a fantastic high-street full of different shops. A Woolworths, British Home stores and a Marks and Spencer about six cinemas and many public houses. Not to mention the Pier and Seafront...Then it got pedestrianised!! plus masses of 'Street Furniture' that changed the character forever ...guess its a sign of the times that has transformed many English towns...

    It's no surprise that most of the crap towns in England are from Lancashire and Yorkshire. These areas, the cradle of the industrial revolution where the workers were exploited are dire. Left behind by Government investment and with high immigrant populations from the Indian subcontinent. I know I lived and worked in one of them. The towns in East Lancashre are particularly deprived in the areas where Cotton (weaving) was King in the last century

      They have those beautiful classic government buildings, you so discernibly observe, because all these towns used to have a vibrant and extremely viable economic activity that enabled those fine structures to be built. Put simply, they were prosperous once! But all that was a century or two back in history. The decline of all these places started about fifty or more years ago, and has accelerated dramatically over the last thirty of them. Almost certainly beyond redemption now.

    One great problem in England is that people look to the past for solutions. Bring back fishing, bring back manufacturing industry and mining, etc.
    Modern markets must be embraced, and the requisite skills needed to compete in them learned. Also enterprise must be concentrated in fields where Britain can complete price-wise with China, Philippines, India, etc and also in sectors which will not be automated for some time. Instead of training to be a truck driver, learn skills which will be needed to make components for driverless trucks.

Consistently rated in the top 20 safest cities in the world (top 5 in UK) - In spite of the 'war zone' that is King's Cross, it's one of the easiest places in the UK to find work, 50% of it is made up of green spaces (which isn't bad) and it has some of the most renowned schools and universities across the globe. I have watched Last of the Summer Wine (well, not sure if I’ve seen an entire episode); beautiful scenery. There are some wonderful, misrepresented parts of the north; don't get me wrong. If I had to move away, the first city that I'd explore moving to (if I had to choose a city) would be Newcastle. However, as far as English cities are concerned, only Bristol and Birmingham have a higher proportion of green spaces than London (London apparently beats Plymouth, Leeds, Bath etc.).
      My wife and I love visiting the Lakes and Yorkshire Dales; and anyone who has been to Gravesend (in Kent) would never visit again unless they absolutely had to. I also recognise that so much in this country is London-centric; way too much!
      So I understand the anger, frustration and resentment from people who, justifiably, feel like a forgotten younger sibling; I just think that targeting London and claiming it to be one of the worst in the world (although we are of course entitled to our opinions), may affect the credibility of some of your very valid points.
