    Love this idea. I did something similar but used 2x2's. They didn't hold up to the weather. they got all wonky. The closet rods are a good idea!

    Needed to build a three-sided sun shade for my (3) 17 year old rescued cats. I was able to use 2x4's for three sides around the deck but did not want to anchor an eyebolt into the house. Trying to find a stud under vinyl siding is a bear and I came across your delightful video. I found a tall recycled plastic planter at Home Depot with a decent sized base. I added 100 pounds of Fast-set Concrete anchoring a ground-contact 2x4 and it worked like a champ! Thank you young lady for an exceptional idea and presentation. With respect, your new subscriber.

    Nice idea & they look great.
    A couple of ideas…
    Concrete will retain water & rust pole so maybe worth drilling out the bottom of the planters & up into the centre of the pole.
    I usually dip the base of poles in isoflex or other rubber sealant for longevity against corrosion.
    Rather than use tape, get your hubby to hold them in place while they dry next time lol

    Home Depot black fencing pipe is perfect for all of this stuff and I think even less expensive than the closet rod used here ... also lots of pieces that attach to the for attaching string lighting to.

    Used top rail for fence then add dry concrete alternate with enough water to activate. Makes poles rigid you can buy short extensions on line to add height to poles

    Throughoult my late teens and early twenties, I had worked t several specialty hardwood lumber yards that catered to real craftsmen.
    The most talented were the old timers in their 70's & 80's. and a few young progenies. Very few.
    You are one of those few. It takes either special talent or years of experience. Oh, the stuff you will come up with in your golden years.
    Shout out to Lee Shields from Orange County, Cal if he's out there. He was the best.

    Great idea! My wife has been wanting me to do this for a bit. We have a pergola with lights, but she wants them extended from the deck to the patio. A few neighbors tried this, but it's pretty clear they did not use concrete.
    The only addition I can think of would be a drill hole at the top of the concrete to allow for rainwater to migrate. Would probably need some filter fabric for the sand, or eliminate the sand?

    • @jquiznos2283
      @jquiznos2283 Рік тому

      I was thinking the same thing. I was considering drilling holes at the bottom then adding stones and sand for weight either all the way to the top or high enough before adding potting soil so it can have plants. Idk. What do you think?

    • @audioidkid
      @audioidkid Рік тому

      @@jquiznos2283 I think the concrete is key to hold the curtain rod in place. multiple holes could be drilled horizontally into the pot, around the pot, at the level of the concrete.

    I’ve done something like this for a wedding one time as long as there’s plenty of concrete in the base of your planters it will stay up and not fall over. I’m thinking about doing this project again but using solar string lights

    Why did you use toggle bolts? You glued the top, so did you use them so the screw eye hook woouldnt wiggle? Also, dontou have concerns that it may rust? I really like what you made, but I'm concerned they'll rust out in a couple of years at the least convenient moment.

      I agree, here in FL, those wouldn’t last even one year before rusting through. I have used 1 3/4 inch PVC pipe which I painted to match my patio decor, and it worked great. I’ve now had them for 3 years and they look as good as the day I made them!
