- I've been recommended by one of my subscribers to try out Mothermash in Soho which is one London's most famous Pie, Sausage and Mash shops. Now, it's a bit different to the usual Pie and Mash shops as you have multiple choices on the type of filling that you have. Hope you enjoy the video.

In fairness they give u the option of a 3rd sausage for 1.50, Not everyone will eat 3 apart from most men, but the mash was on the small side,
To be fair, my cat would have eaten all of that.
I should have taken that option up. Would have been much better value.

Had one of the pies here on a recent trip to London and can confirm they are top notch too. More filling than the sausages and felt I was going to burst but so tasty that I had to keep going and finish it. £14 well spent.

Looks like there's vegan and vegetarian options. I love that you can customise your order. I wish more places offered this! Good price for London. I love it when you show the menu so we can see what else is on offer. Also, shoutout to the cameraman for his good work.

That looked a very tasty treat, hard to beat sausage and mash, especially champ mash. Incidentally in the Daily Mail today they reviewed " The most expensive fish and chips in the UK " It made Heston Blumenthal look like the bargain of the year.

That did look scrummy..... when I was a kid, there used to be a sausage shop in "Soufend on Sea. ".... Oh my, the sausage, mash, and onions were.....😋😋😋😋😋😋😋😋😋 . So much of my youth has gone, sadly, so thanks for bringing back some lovely memories of my childhood in East London.

Another wonderful review Gary. I was worried you'd mark it up, as for me it just wasn't substantial enough, but as always you'd allowed for this and your scoring was perfect (8.5). I dont get why restaurants cant just add a bit more potato.. it costs them so little. Or even a slice of bread on the side. A brilliant review as always.

They want you to be hungry so you buy another course. I often take a slice of quality wholemeal to top up.
£13 in central London is very cheap
@@abbyhansen9874 True, as C. London is now Rip-off Central. Wasn't always like that. There were once loads of long-established cheap eateries - workers' cafes, bistros and chop houses in Soho and further abroad, most now disappeared.
Basically, if you order sausages and they _don't_ take ten to fifteen minutes to arrive, then they were either being kept in a warmer or hastily cooked in a deep fryer. Your sausages looked like they were lovingly cooked in a frying pan, so good on Mother Mash!
Having said that, I would also have wanted more mash at the very least for 13 pounds, though I think docking them an entire one and a half points for serving size was a bit unfair considering the score you gave the tiny portion of fish and chips at Heston's pub. Transparency and consistency in your ratings is paramount, rather than "I'm changing the criteria for this particular place because it's famous".
Not at all. I don't change the consistency or critera based on how famous somewhere is otherwise I'd have given Tom Kerridge's a 9! I was stunned by the quality of fish and chips at Heston's place so much so that the portion didn't matter to me as much. Also, as nice as Mothermash was - it wasn't the best I've personally had so I can't hand out 10s just because I liked the food, it needs to have a wow factor to get a 10.

Okay, that does it! Bangers and Mash are on the menu for Monday night! (the rest of this week is already planned and prepared, so I have to wait!) Don't know how I've never happened upon this place before so a big thank you for reviewing it and letting us know. I love veggie sausages, mash, peas and gravy so will definitely try and make it to one of the branches. Get some lovely winter comfort food in my system.
Already tried Bombay Delight in Wimbledon after you reviewed the restaurant which was a wonderful recommendation - (I was the dining companion that your viewer Staggercfc mentioned in his own review in the comments).

@@GaryEats Yes, it has a nice, calm ambience to it and there was no feeling of being rushed. The food was sublime and Stagger wasn't lying about those huge cocktails, haha. I may have underestimated their potency and almost tripped on a step on the way out as I was a little more tipsy than I should have been. Lesson learned! Will stick to fizzy water next time. 😅

Sometimes its nice to have simple comfort food, and this was that with a twist, as the mash with cheese and onion was a great idea and one i shall be trying.
Clearly the sausages were top quality, just a shame like you said Gary that there was not a few more onions in the Gravy, there a cheap filler and can make or brake a dish.
Score wise i think you were bang on the money, and this is certainly a place i would go to,

Another cracking video. I would love to see your take on Rules in Covent Garden. I believe it is the oldest restaurant in London. It is quite touristy but such an interesting place to look around and the food is very good imo.

Not matter how good a meal is, it's a failure if you're not full at the end of it. I get central London prices, however no need to shortchange your customers. £13 for a meal, no problem. £13 for that, no chance. Thanks for the review.

Good evening Gary, an old-fashioned meal😊 Served in a mock pie shop😮,which I'm not complaining about, the tiles are just right. Modern seating, not the bum numbing ones from the good old days 😂😂 My wife,an Irish lady ( forever a girl to me) said. The whole plate looked great,it made her both happy to see it so well presented, a tear for memories 😢❤. Now,have to agree that overall a small meal,And a top heavy price tag😮 Needed far more onions. Almost like French Onion Soup😊.Definitely a 3rd sausage.And a larger dollop of spuds 😊Maybe an Irish Mixed plate 😮 choose 3 or 4 types of mash.Chunks of soda bread,and 1/2pt of Guinness. As the wife says " A fine feed " Gary it's no surprise to see your numbers going up (nearly 8,000❤) A truthful down to earth reviewer. Bringing us a very good cross section of eateries. I've been here twice now since I saw your review Gary and really enjoyed the food on both occasions. Both times I had 3 sausages, cheesy mash and onion gravy. The food was very tasty indeed and price was fair enough for WC2. Hard to criticise the place but the portions could have been a bit bigger, my mash was delicious but there wasn't much of it. Potatoes are cheap! Anyway a good place and I will certainly return again soon.

Now I've come over all peckish. I was introduced to bangers and mash many years ago in an episode of the BBC's "All Creatures Great and Small." Sadly, it's not something easily found here in the "colonies." Then, I was in the UK on a performing tour with an orchestra in the 1980s. I made it my mission to try bangers and mash at every possible opportunity. Finally, back in the USA, I found a butcher shop that made proper bangers, so I started serving it occasionally at my dinner table. I believe I'll go visit that butcher's shop this very day and enjoy the dish again this evening. Thank you. I've subscribed to your channel.

I noticed over your left shoulder JPC (Jamaican Patty Co.). It's my go to at Liverpool Street, the patties are great and the goat curry with rice and peas is to die for. Must try Mothermash, as both my wife and I love comfort food.

If you get a chance I cannot recommend Pizzeria Pappagone in Finsbury Park highly enough, would love to see what you think.
They have a wide range of Italian food and have been a North London institute for 25 or so years.
They have the most beautiful enormous wood fired oven straight in front of you when you walk in ❤.
Lovely guys and extremely well priced. They have Pappagone Sud at Elephant and Castle too, but the Finsbury Park one is the OG restaurant.

yes, potato was a bit small, like you I'd have fancied an extra sausage or if not then I'd like a pie with it too. Shame mushy peas didn't look like they were available because adding same would be awesome. Being a complete pig I'd like some bread and butter too to make a sausage sandwich to dab same in whatever i wanted.

We went there last weekend and both agreed they were the best chicken and mushroom pies we'd ever had! Mash, gravy and desserts were all excellent, too. We also went to the Grafton Street branch and had sausages and mash there. Very good as well, although pies always win over sausages, IMHO.

Excellent video, I love sausage and mash. Actually there’s a cheap restaurant quite close to this one, still in covent Garden and they do a £10 lunches with a pint, and an additional £5 will get you another course. It’s called Big Easy. They also do unlimited food for an amazing price. Also for great value is the £9.99 unlimited cooked and continental breakfast, with unlimited fruit juice and tea and coffee, at the royal forest In Chingford, it only runs for between about 9 and 11. beautifully surrounded by Epping Forest itself. They also do an roast on Sunday with unlimited veg, for £11.95. Unfortunately there’s two royal pubs very close to each other, so people can get em mixed up. Another first rate video, and Gary you should be giving your own TV series doing this.
Ooo I've heard of Big Easy but as it's a huge chain restaurant, I've decided to give it a miss to review as I do try (unless asked by subs) to try local/family run businesses. Very kind of you Dale but I don't think people want me on their big screen for too long. Thanks for watching!
