- I've headed down to East Dulwich in South East London to try some Georgian Food in one of the most beautiful restaurants that I've visited so far. The restaurant is called Kartuli which actually means "Georgian" and this is the first time I will ever be trying this food!

Mate, you’ve got me googling flights to Georgia! What a feast!
Wow it’s definitely fantastic food
Welcome You will be able to try many other delicious dishes. We have different versions of khachapuri and I would recommend Imeretian khachapuri and achma. I recommend my favorite chanakhi and chakapuli, this is stewed lamb with tarragon and cherry plum. Well, we have many different varieties of wine, from different grape varieties. And much more.
It is so !!!
@imtomjones sorry it doesnt meet your american standards of sitting at home all day playing video games!! must be sad to know people have a life and like to spend their time going to mountains or beaches which georgia has amazing of, just because you have different interests and obviously can't have fun doesn't mean its the "most boring country" plss get over yourself
@imtomjones babe what?? 😭 I get the rude people and bad smell but worst food? I mean that just screams that the food you like is fast food, georgia literally has the most original food? Sure if you prefer chick-fil-a or smth! 💕💕💞
Hello, i'm from georgia! I'm really glad that you enjoyed our food :]
I love it!
ღმერთმა შეგარგოთ ! ❤️🇬🇪@@GaryEats

Those guys of this restaurant are amazing. every person that makes georgian restaurant outside Georgia and shows our cuisine is annonymous hero. that is our non material cultural heritage!
thanks for restaurant and special thanks for channel!
This was an excellent restaurant and great food, thanks for watching and commenting
Oh Gary!
That food looked like a 10/10 to me!
It ALL looked superb, especially that scrumptious looking starter! 👍
I really loved the look of the dumplings - & you both obviously loved eating them! Lol
The stew looked amazing, & I really loved the bowl that it was served in - so brightly colourful, for winter in a land that can be bitterly cold.
I think what I love most about your food journey is that, no matter what cuisine you try, there's always something that reminds us all of our home cooking.
Apart from the spicing, & the addition of pomegranate, ALL of those dishes would still be at home in our own family kitchens - yes, presented slightly differently, but with enough familiarity that, as you so obviously were, comfortable enough, to feel right at home with! 👍
I'm going to be perfectly honest, hand on heart, in that I wasn't looking forward to this video. How wrong could I be ??? The restaurant didn't look very exciting from the outside at the start, but boy oh boy, wasn't it just sensational inside. The food looked absolutely gobsmacking .... wholesome, hearty, no arty farty lightweight poncing about with minute quantities at mega silly prices and therefore right up my Strasse. Unbelievable place and respect to the owners / staff. Another excellent presentation Gary.
Thank you so very much Roger one I’d highly recommend 👌
@@GaryEatsI was born not far from Georgia, and I love hinkaly and hachapuri👍but right now I’m living in North Wales UK, I was looking everywhere Georgian cuisine near me, but unfortunately I couldn’t find. I would go there every day, never mind prices, absolutely delicious food 10 out of 10👍👍👍👍👍
I´ve lived 4 years in beautiful Georgia, from 18-22. The best country i´ve been to out of 39 destinations.
Great people, delicious food, fantastic nature, a looong hot summer and very cheap country.
My favorite dish is Satsivi. It´s chicken in a creamy wallnut sauce. Or try Lobio, that´s beans in a clay pot. You´ll love it
Cheers from a dane🇩🇰
Thank you very much for the information. I also appreciate you watching from Denmark.
Thank you so much for such warm memories of my country, but I would like to note that this year's summer with us was quite cool compared to other European countries. 😊😊😊
@@lion555 Garmajoba lion. Usually it's the other way around: not good weather in Europe, but great weather in Georgia 😎😄
Will visit Georgia again, next month. I'm always looking forward to go to Georgia. I need to have some Satsivi 😁
Cheers from a Viking 🇩🇰
Proper little gem of a place.
I fully agree
Really pleased to see your channel taking off the way it has done. Just goes to show you don't need bells whistles and BS, just honesty 👍
Thank you very kind
What a stunning resurant
All three dishes looked so elegant you will find that a lot of Eastern countries food will surprise you I don't do this often got to be a 10 what a stunning meal
Superb
That's so true 👍
Here here absolutely 💯👍 love Mr G🎉
I worked in Tbilisi almost 20 years ago, the Georgians are an extremely warm and loving people. Their food is very hearty because during winter (when I was there) a warm day got to -16C. I was working on the 'new' airport, so effectively working outside. Second day of working I was wearing the entire contents of the suitcase that I'd taken to stay warm...
The national dish of Georgia is basically a Kebab, their national drink is beer, and their flag is basically the flag of saint George - What's not to like?! :)
The food is always prepared to order, and every dish has a story behind its creation. The food is excellent, the people are excellent, the culture is excellent.
Sadly, the Russians are shitting on the doorstep as usual, but Georgia has survived its neighbour for over 2000 years, so I'm sure it will get over its recent travails.
Amazing citizens of that country. One lady is there in my birth country Myanmar/Burma capital called Yangon.
WELL SAID !
Back in about 1998 I delivered an aircraft refuelling tanker to Tbilisi airport, drove it there overland from London. Stayed at the Metechi Palace for a few days. Got arrested at Moscow Sheremetyevo Airport on the way home because my Russian visa had expired and I needed to transfer from the domestic to the international airport which meant crossing Russian terrain, deported from Russia and told never to return. Happy days. ;-)
@@TruckingVideos🤭🥴 Oh dear.😀
And Americans like to shit on doorsteps too far far away!
As a Georgian I'm very grateful for your lovely video and review of our amazing culture...you should visit us in Georgia, you'll be lot more surprised I promise
I may well do that one day thank you
Gary ! ... The internet says that Georgia is one of the oldest wine-producing countries in the world .... interesting !! .... Great video matey, stay as you are, we love yah pal !
That’s one large old lady , one how old she is
It is and I didn’t know that either and thank you very much
Yes 8000 years the oldest in the world, carbon dated grape pips the cradle of wine!
Georgians will tell you that they invented wine, it's the national drink. Many good reds, I think you said yours was a Saperavi? But at a Georgian Supra all the men will have a glass in front of them that looks more like apple juice. White wine, but fermented on the skins rather than the way we usually make white wine in the west. A quaffing wine. Be wary of drinking from drinking horns, the biggest hold more alcohol than a yard of ale does
Important that businesses support and buy their supplies locally. I know of several restaurants and pubs that list their local suppliers, farms, butchers, dairies so customers know they're supporting the local economy
It’s a great point David local businesses supporting local businesses perfect
I know but last time I went to dulwich I spent nearly £40 on 4 lumps of cheese!! Everything is 2x the normal price around there
Fully recommend visiting Georgia, it's a such a great country. The food is great and the wine is even better!
Hopefully, I can visit there next year Will
You inspire people to try different cuisines. Fantastic.
Thank you
What a true Georgian class this restaurant is. This chairs , the entire interior is so Tbilisian vintage. საქართველო ❤ What a delight to see guest this appreciative.
I absolutely loved this restaurant and I’ll definitely be returning
Watching this channel go from strength to strength is great, plus Gary has just the right amount of Alan Partridge to keep it light. Great work Gary!
Thank you very much Chris …. I think lol
Alan is gutted he didn't think up , Let's give it a go! on restaurant duties
Hi, Gary
Me and my husband have been watching your videos from day one. Just wanted to let you know how much we enjoy watching them together. We've had a tough 8 months with my husband being terminally ill with pancreas cancer and having palliative chemo. Your videos have put a bit of light into this difficult time for us. Keep up the great work!😊 8:05
Hi Judy. I'm really sorry to hear that your husband has been struggling with illness all year and can understand how awful it must have been for the both of you to endure.
Please send me an email if you could, that would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
I'm so sorry you're going through this. Both of my parents died from cancer, my Dad just two and a half years ago. The difference is that, if we pass in the correct order, we all know our parents will pass one day. Seeing your partner or spouse very ill, well to be honest I don't want to think about it. I hope he is as comfortable as he can be and that you both have lots of support.
God bless you both, and I'm glad you're enjoying Gary's channel. It's a pretence-free zone with great reviews, a brilliant cameraman and a host who's like the David Attenborough of the culinary world 😂😂
You picked a real gem here Gary, food & presentation looked great, always pleased when you support the local places 😀 thanks for sharing 😊
Thanks Lee
Wow ! Never thought of trying Georgian food before 🤔... Gary has introduced us to a little gem here. You might think living in central London we wouldn't be bored or find it hard trying to find a decent place to eat, where it doesn't cost a arm and a leg, but the moment Gary bit into that dumpling and gave his review it had me looking for the address. Thank you Gary !
Thank you one I’ll definitely return to
Think you should have given that a 10, it looked and the way you described it sounded incredible. Especially when you said it’s in your top 3!
He's giving a lot of 10's out lately, probably gave a 9 to stop people complaining he's just giving everything a top score :D
And tbf value comes into it too, while it did sound quality food, £15 a dish and a £74 total bill for what he got seemed pretty damn pricey.
I didn’t give a ten due to the price point 🤷♂️
Top three interior
I now need to try Georgian cuisine. Absolutely amazing. Thank you for sharing.
It’s definitely worth trying
Be sure to try the eggplant rolls with walnuts and spices. There are many more dishes in Georgian cuisine that will revolutionize the world of your tastes
I used to live in Moscow and we would often go out for Georgian food. Always very nice and fantastic wine. I would also suggest giving Uzbek cuisine a try, if you can find it. Great video as always Gary and bought back some memories 😊
I will try thank you ☺️
Of all the foods you've tried from all over, this peaked my interest the most. It looks fantastic. Hearty, homely, filling. I've never seen a dumling thingy that looked that appetizing.
That bread looked so good with the cheese and butter filling.
The bread was absolutely amazing, would highly recommend
Living near Arbroath in Scotland there isn't such a wide choice as in the big smoke. That's why your channel is so welcome. We can vicariously enjoy the cuisine of the world!
Count yourself lucky m8, I live in Orkney…it really sucks up here🤣🤣
I travelled all the way up to Arbroath for a smokie, loved it. Wouldn't want one everyday tho..
@@Johnny-Bhoy Been there bro. Even Shetland had an Indian but I don't know about Orkney.
@@tuttale The fish is good in Arbroath. Smokies are excellent but hot smoked salmon is superb too. And you can get oysters. If you like seafood like me Arbroath is grand.
There’s a pic of Gordon Ramsay in our Indian, he says “The carrots were nice”🤣
Gary...In a world full of fake personalities and youtubers who act very "fake" and obnoxious , because they think having a gimmick is what gets them views...I must say its very refreshing to see a channel that is just normal , authentic and relatable . Love the energy you bring to every single review , Love from Kerala 🙌
Hey up mate I think the same as well
Here here absolutely 💯👍
Very well said. I had to look up Kerala, wow, what a great place.
@@edwardsp1916 hopefully you also looked to the food of Kerala
Yes it's very relaxing isn't it? In todays troubled world..Good food and wine and Gary's personality is a bit of escapism 😊
You just have to look at where Georgia is located geographically; their climate and historically the types of employment/industry of the country. And their earthy, hearty, filling food reflects this. The way the restaurant has presented their cuisine is outstanding. Good find Gary!
Thank you very much
The Georgians produce some of the best wine in the world. Plus their Cha-cha... strong stuff)
Gary, you always make us feel that we are there with you. Both of us are. feeling very, very full up , have to go for a jog round the block. Well done again.
That’s very kind John thank you both very much
That meal looked absolutely delicious, and with your descriptions I could almost taste them 🥸🤤🥸
Another satisfying vid 🍻
That’s very kind thank you
Dipping that crust in the cheese was everything 🤤🤤🤤
It was sensational
That looked wonderful.
Thank you for bringing Georgian food to my attention! 🇬🇪 Fantastic review as always ❤
Very kind thank you
Georgian food is amazing... so is Uzbeki food (Uzbekistan) and there are a few Uzbeki restaurants in London😉
Starter was big enough for four! Dumplings enough for 4
Well, Gary, this is the best promotion Georgian Cuisine could wish for. I am really curious now. For the food, the wine, the people, the country. So thank you for this new item on my bucketlist 🙂
It’s definitely worth trying Anne absolutely lovely
That looks absolutely fantastic 😋 and it's great to get a review of Georgian food, a cuisine I've never tried, so thanks very much Gary 👍
It was fantastic Trevor and thank you
Please don't change your style of videos, your natural and genuine approach is why I've watched from the beginning. Thank you. This meal looked great.
Thank is very kind and generous Edward thank you so very much, we won’t change, it’s a simple formula but everyone seems to enjoy the way we do the videos, have a great week ahead 👍
Another very interesting review Gary never had or thought of trying Georgian Food but now you have opened my eyes !!

Beautiful decor Gary! We used to go to our Festival Theatre and we saw some beautiful Georgian Dancers the colours were amazing and the 💃 🕺 that was back in the 80s Gary I always had a fascination for Russia and the like 👍 ❤
I really enjoyed this one Helen. The food was outstanding. My first try of Georgian food but definitely not my last. ❤️🌹
@@GaryEats hi Gary It looked very interesting especially those little type dumplings they reminded me firstly of Dim sims!, Then I had another look! I did go to a Russian Restaurant back in the 1990s it's was simply amazing! Plus the atmosphere it was at night too! 😊❤🙏
I would have been full after the first course and Gary managed to knock back 2 more. What a legend 😊
I was really full afterwards Greg hence the weight going on 😳
Great review Gary really showcased Georgian cuisine ,food ive never seen before thanks.
No problem thank you for watching and commenting
Amazing. What an interesting review. A lovely former old shop, I believe. Beautiful tiling. The dishes looked like home cooking, as I like it. Good old fashioned fare. I must visit the place. It truly deserves top marks. Thank you very much 'for taking us there'.
This is one I’ll remember for a long time Sylvia
I thought it would be a 10 the way you were enjoying it.
Keep up the good work, really enjoining your videos.
I took one off for the price point
That restaurant is a lovely combination of elegance and rustic simplicity. Wow!
This was excellent

It was so good Sean thank you
Well done for giving the names in that menu a go, Gary! The restaurant looks so pretty and the food looks both delicious and fun to partake of. Great choice to review. Bet the Cameraman was a bit gutted when you put the used spoon back into the stew pot. None of that dish spared for him. 😂
Definitely not he disappeared for ten minutes lol

A really lovely comment thank you
Hello from Georgia. ❤️ I was very happy to see this video and I'm glad you enjoyed our food.
Hope you enjoyed it!
Hi Gary I'm new to your site love the videos I've seen so far. I lived in East Dulwich in the late 80's early 90's and wasn't aware of this restaurant then but I will definitely make a visit next time I'm in the area thanks for the review
Thanks and welcome to the channel, really appreciate it
Very good with review again keep doing the international cuisine so much more interesting than other food reviewers.
That’s really appreciated Christian thank you
That looked amazing Gary. Like you I was completely clueless about Georgian food but this video has definitely made me want to try it. The stew in particular looked outstanding 👍👍👍
It’s definitely worth a look Paul I really enjoyed it 👍👍
You hit another winner Gary. Beautiful restaurant with what looks like terrific food. Georgia has long been considered the cradle of winemaking and the wines are different but exciting. Love it all.
This was a winner 🥇 and good wine as well 🍷
Yes! My favourite food reviewer, reviewing my favourite food! My wife is Armenian, where Georgian food is also widely available. So when we visit her family every year, I usually keep a count of how many khachapuri I eat on the trip. Usually average about 1 per day... and I return about 5kg heavier! It is the ultimate dish - comforting, filling, simple, but yet utterly utterly tasty. Love it! Thanks for another great review!! (p.s. if you want to continue your food tour of the Caucasus and are ever in Manchester, there is a great Armenian restaurant in the city centre called Armenian Taverna)
That’s so very kind and how lucky are you wow, my first but not last time for sure and I’ll take a look at your recommendation thank you 👌
As a 50 something chef with almost 37 years work experience it’s refreshing to see /hear an honest review of someone’s experience in a restaurant keep giving it a go fella nicely done and remember get your steaks done well and not well done 👍
Duncan, you're a top man and I love reading your comments... cheers
The range, budget and style of cuisine in your channel is awesome, and you manage to make all videos with the same level of entertainment value. Also it's nice to see the same respect shown to "lesser" places as the michelin starred and big fancy restaurant's. Georgian food looks lovely.
That’s really appreciated thank you
Lmao!! That cheese pull had you mesmerised 😂
Mate Gary went straight back to a 70s fondue moment
I was amazed obviously easily pleased lol 😂
Love your videos, all honest and believable - I'd go to a restaurant just based on your reviews. You can see how much you have progressed since the early days, keep up the great work
That’s so very kind Lee thank you
My first impressions were "WoW" as the cameraman pans around the interior of Kartuli . Stunning ! So much character. You are totally forgiven for the pronunciations Gary. Not an easy task. Food to set the taste buds tingling for sure. So unusual but so delicious. I was salivating throughout. Food cooked with love and passion. To put it in your top 3 of all restaurants you've visited is testament to the overall experience without a doubt. Top video again Gary.
Thank you Robert this was a lovely restaurant and the food was just WOW 👌
Gary, The richness of wonderful cuisines in your area is enviable.

That particular youtuber was my favourite until recently, 2 channels, totally confusing titles and formats and his attitude is just so arrogant and abusive, but let's not drag rubbish into a clean street 😉
First off, I don’t know a damn thing about Georgian food. After seeing what you had Gary to eat, I need to try some myself. The dumplings remind me of Chinese soup dumplings only about 5x bigger. Everything including the restaurant looks so lovely.
Yes Patrick, they very much did remind me of those as well. Very good point
Being Chinese that naturally caught my eye as well. An article says it likely travelled China --> Mongols --> Georgia, and apparently the difference is thicker dough and liquid soup is used, while xiaolongbao use thin skins and gelatinous filling to keep from exploding I guess. Ordered my first Georgian restaurant delivery here in Brooklyn today, so this video was a nice accompaniment.
I've been a subscriber for a fair while now and out of all the "Food reviewers" online, I think, No, I know, You are at the very top. No mucking about, No over the top nonsense, Just straight up proper honest reviews and always good for a laugh. Many thanks for the many hours of fine entertainment. ❤

Thank you, Gary! Your review was wonderful, objective, and lovely. I visited Little Georgia in Islington while in London a couple of years ago and was amazed. I'm happy to see that Georgians are opening more places and introducing this amazing cuisine to the world. I have travelled through Georgia a few times for a couple of weeks at a time and I really didn't enjoy the food in restaurants.
On the other hand when you went to peoples homes and had home made food , wines and vodka it was beyond incredible.
I really enjoyed this review as it brought back some happy memories.
I’m really pleased it brought back some wonderful memories
Why was the restaurant food so different?
@@rosemarymee the two times I have been to Georgia and I was cycle touring and most of the restaurants served plain food. Khinkali is either something you like or hate , to me it was atrocious. It was like very thick ravioli gone wrong and the meat was grey and soaked in water.
As a vegetarian it sounds awful. I suppose expecting gluten free choices to appear on menus would be unthinkable?
😢
Gary love your plain and honest reviews no bs or click bait just straight talking and honesty a hard thing to find these days keep it up bud loving your work oh and the cameraman 😊😊lol
That’s very kind Chris thank you very much
The food and the decor are outstanding. Even the dishes the food is served in are beautiful. It was great to experience this vicariously on a Saturday afternoon.
Thank you Jan I agree 💯
Nothing better than contentment after a good meal in relaxing surroundings, heaven.
Loved the look of the stew that’s my kind of dish too. Well done Gary for reviewing what appears to be another little gem 👍
Thank your Julien this was exactly that a little gem 💎
After your previous video where you took away the food to revamp at home, I'd be interested in a Gary Cooks spinoff. Would be really interesting to see what kind of things you cook up at home given your wealth of restaurant experience.
I might try that in the future 👍
@GaryEats definitely do it love.....even if u do it as a second channel. .....that said i do realise it's a lot of work with editing & uploading especially when u have a full time job too.
Yes! As I mentioned in a previous comment, about the offal toast to compete with Nigella's avocado nonsense.
I like that. Or a twist on the theme... Gary visits your house and you cook for him and camera man. Lot of side project ideas here.
This is a great idea Mark but I’d feel very bad ever criticising someone’s cooking in their home, fantastic idea though and will see what I can do
that beef(stew) looks right up my street
It was a lovely stew
Looks like you really enjoyed the food it looked excellent. No doubt a lot of people will be trying Georgian food after watching your review.

This was a delight and I’ll be going back very soon 👌
You can’t go wrong with Georgian food, tasty, big portions and the Georgian people take great pride in their hospitality ❤
An excellent point 👌
Wow, they don't skimp on portion sizes do they! I don't think I could even finish the first two dishes on my own, never mind the stew. Fair play to them for good value.
Really big portions 👌
Gary, Georgian restaurants are quite popular in New York (especially Brooklyn) and the Bustleton neighborhood of Philadelphia. The restaurant you're visiting has a better looking wine selection than any I've seen in the States. This is the world's most underestimated cuisine.
I agree a fantastic cuisine which I’ll definitely try again
I think this is my favourite video so far. Gary’s Eyes lighting up like a child at Christmas trying these unexplored wonders. Really makes you want to grab a fork and rip that Stew out of your hands. Looked enormous and absolutely perfect. Would be curious to know what it would have taken to make it a perfect 10 🤔 Awesome review as always Gary 🫡

😳👍
I hope the cameraman is ok
Lol he's fine, everyone always defends him Lauren lol he's a miserable git at times
Another extra-ordinary review! Scrumptious! AND a cuisine I really know nothing about - so definitely intrigued. Something did seem a little off with regards to the filming during the first part of the video - and there is nothing like throwing a team-mate, work-mate, friend, or family member under the bus when they make a mistake, or turn up late. The poor guy is not doing himself any favours though, with regards to being fed. Cheers to you both for airing your dirty laundry for all fans to see! Godspeed, and I can't wait to hear more drama on the next one. 🍻
I understand your point unfortunately it wasn’t easy to film as we’re trying and do it undercover, as he went absent, he deserved no food 😂😂
I’ve never had Georgian food but your video makes me want to try some! That stew made my mouth water!
My first but definitely not last time
Thanks Gary lovely to see some different cuisine.
Stunning food, fantastic 👍👍👍
