Be great to fit a Minimig in there - but would prefer if you could overclock it so it would run at 50Mhz so Frontier Elite 2 would run smoothly on it like you can with the Minimig! Having AGA is a bonus for the 30 games or so that use it.

To Stephen, I would argue that there is probably a niche of old Amiga users who would like that workflow and would like to use those productivity suites to make modern content, and don't want to learn how to use some gawd-awful Adobe product. I think it makes perfect sense, and could even be the basis for a cottage industry.

Well shure. The full size ATX version of the A4000 is already out there, so a mini-ITX version of the 1200 is not impossible. However you need to get rid of a few things. First you ditch the PCMCIA port and then the RF Modulator.

I love the format of the Mini, that's giving me all sorts of ideas.. Going to follow that one for certain.

    1. Excuse my cluelessness, but what is that breakout board on the side of that Pi4 acrylic case?!
    2. I really like the devilish hybrid. When you open up Chrome, could it go into window mode instead fullscreen, like the VLC player?
    3. I want to remind people of Icaros which, in hosted mode, can run windows apps. I like that it runs natively on x86/x64.
But I can definitely see Stephen´s approach: Emulation allows all the hardcoded stuff to work (like AMOS or demos)!

I love the mini design.. I'll definitely pre-order if a 680x0 ITX board with AGA is offered with it (or FPGA). I would love to see some more renders with interior and backplate options when available. It does seem a little large for ITX, but that could leave room for a riser board option, or extra PCI slot covers to put extra I/O in depending on the configuration. If the larger size is only due to wanting to fit a SFX power supply, other options could benefit this case being smaller - like a PicoPSU for small loads or HDPLEX for higher wattage. I would love to see a Checkmate A1500 Mini badge on the front rather than the hybrid name, just to keep it in line with the original Checkmate and A1500 Plus.

Presumably there's a setting to make them all coexist on top of the same desktop/wokrbench environment, all the while still being able to pop programs off to their own dedicated screens one could get to by the drag-the-screen-down or the traditional switch-screens way.

Thoughts? First thought was: I need the Mini! Second thought: hmm, possibly not when it's bigger; in other words, A3000 size. I mean, that ship sailed 30 years ago. The design is timeless, even if the dimensions are somewhat different. The A3000 case was designed around the motherboard (I suppose) and it's no different these days. Third thought: perhaps I should put something in the Checkmate 1500+ case that I already have. Fourth thought: but I'd planned to put the Raspberry 4 kit in it, and once ARM micro-ATX motherboards become commonplace, move the RPi to a mini-ITX case.
In short: let's see how much the thing is going to cost. But please consider not making it bigger than how you've rendered it.

I'd love to see tighter integration between the Amiga emulator and the Linux system, which I believe is totally possible. Linux uses a "Window Manager" which draws the border buttons on windows and handles maximizing and minimizing etc. Well, window managers can be very simple. Here are some examples: www.junauza.com/2008/08/20-most-nimble-and-simple-x-window.html
I don't see a reason one couldn't integrate a window manager INTO the emulator, so Linux apps behave like Amiga apps with respect to window management and decorations. They would still BE Linux apps, but it might be easier to forget that. Also, most GUI toolkits for Linux support theming, meaning the widgets can be made to look however you want. An Amiga theme for GTK+ or QT would further help the immersive feel.

  • @Stormbolter

I find it interesting but the lack of front ports kind of spoils me for small PC builds where you want all the ports you can on the machine to avoid cabling nightmares.
Also it's weird that it doesn't accept even half-pci or rotated cards given the size. Looks quite tall for being a "no cards" case.

    • @Stormbolter
      @Stormbolter 4 роки тому

@@another3997 Well, the other case had a small space for the ports, so it wasn't an unfounded expectation. Besides, this is a case in the style of an Amiga 3000 (the creator launched a bigger case that is more of a replica than this one).
      But to each it's own.

Because it wouldn't resemble an Amiga, which is the point of these cases... If you want a vertical ITX just buy an Antec ISK110 or similar.

Why would you run music or productivity apps on an old Amiga? Wouldn't it be better to just use the new app in its native Linux or windows? I understand playing the games on the system but why something like a video editor? The new apps are so much more powerful and most are easier to use. And isn't your Amiga OS just a Linux Distro with Amiga Icons? I don't get it. The Raspberry Pi is just loading different apps from a linux distro? Can't you do that with any WineX emulator and then for the Amiga apps just use winUAE. Why would you ever want to browse the web or watch DVDs on an old Amiga anyway? Once you start putting it in 1080 and using faster processors whats the point? Still really cool stuff! :) Thanks for sharing!

For a Mini-ITX case, it looks way too big to me. It has the same height as the Checkmate, is just 3 inches shorter and maybe 3 inches less wide. It's not really a remarkable benefit over the Checkmate. If you REALLY go for Mini-ITX housing, THEN it will be great. But not a hybrid between Mini-ITX and Checkmate.
From hardware hybrid to software hybrid: if I understood it correctly you just showed products from others, right? Because it takes the RasPi and puts AmiBerry on it. Anyone can do so. I don't get why someone should go to your Patreon page for it when it is already available on the official AmiKitX page. All the stuff with running Amiga in UAE on Linux is more than 20 years old, so everyone should know it these days.

@@RMCRetro Well, 98.5% of all the countries in the world use international standard units of measurement as their official measurement system (or 'metric' as you call it in the UK), and that number is actually increasing. Liberia and Myanmar are in the process of converting. No wonder that I react when you use a unit of measurement that hardly anyone in the world uses, outside of the US .
