  • If you’re filming a lot of video, rigging your gear can be incredibly time-consuming. We’ve got a quick shoot-out that results in a recommendation for some gear that can save you time and frustration.
    Here are the adapters I rejected:
    Manfrotto: www.amazon.com...
    Manfrotto clone: www.amazon.com...
    Arca-Swiss from FocusFoto: www.amazon.com...
    Arca-Swiss from Neewer: www.amazon.com...
    Kondor Blue: www.amazon.com...
    Oben: www.amazon.com...
    Here are the adapters I standardized on:
    Large Neewer: www.amazon.com...
    Small Neewer: www.amazon.com...
    Have fun. Let me know what you think!

    The tightening knob on the pro video Manfrotto has a spring clutch, where it can be pulled backwards and rotated without loosening or tightening. Utilizing that, it can be tightened when space is limited.

    I think with the big quick release on the Manfrotto, you can actually pull that knob out a bit in order to not have to move the camera forward. Maybe not for the one you have, but every one I've used does.

    So, where do you stand on these 3 years later? Ive been hunting high and low for retail and diy innovations in this space and have yet to come across anything compelling in the snap lock domain. Thanks so much for sharing!

    Your video is especially prescient for me as I'm thinking about transitioning from a hex sided plate to something else (more equipment). Just because the hex plate or for that matter, arca-swiss, are industry standards, to your point, does not mean that it need be THE standard. Happened to pick up a Neewer single handle tripod ball before this video, so i'm leaning that way. Appreciate all your efforts and keep up the great work! PJ

    Hi David. I really appreciate all that you shared about quick release mounts. I can't imagine the amount of time and money it took to reach your decision. I'm personally just getting started with youtube and still shooting from 2 smart phones, my GoPro and my little Cannon Vixia with a couple of lapel mics. But when I graduate to a new DSL camera, I'm more aware of the importance of getting the right quick release mounts. I like your solutions. Just wanted to thank you for sharing your research.

    This quick release plate is convenient! The camera is attached to the tripod quickly and is very good! I also have four because it is convenient. The video was very interesting! I will come to play again. With love from Japan :)

      Yes the main issue I have is in route to the subject I’m goin to be filming I don’t want my camera hooked up to my tripod cause it’s just a recipe for disaster. So I do all my connecting when I arrive and it’s frustrating when the subject is actually right there ready to be filmed and I have to take 4 min to connect securely & properly cause I’m not watching my expensive equipment tip over and smash. So a quick release is a must. But that’s my situation. Wildlife photography

    Arca-Swiss style plates are the industry standard. If one chooses a clamp with a lever lock, they are as efficient to mount or dismount as any of the ones suggested in video. Many lenses come with Arca-Swiss plates as standard. Just my experience from shooting professionally in 1960’s and my hobby today.

    • @AdvancedGeekery
      @AdvancedGeekery  2 роки тому +2

      Yeah, I had intended to go with Arca Swiss, but I didn't like doing the little screwing in and out thing. I found very few (and pretty expensive) clip-on Arca Swiss plates, so I went this way.

    Great video! I decided I needed to do the exact same thing a few weeks ago, and (although I didn’t test a load of others) ended up using the larger Neewer units for everything. Very happy with them.

      Yeah, I'm going to use them upstairs in my office as well. I have a mic arm that hangs over my desk with a mic attached, and I'm going to put a quick release adapter on it so I can quickly turn it into an overhead filming rig for simple desk filming. I'm real happy with these so far (about two weeks in).

    Really great video! Happy to subscribe. I'd love to see an updated video about mounting hardware.
    One important bonus of going with arca mounting: it's a standard! Unofficial and poorly implemented sometimes, but a standard still. That means more availability, more competition, more compatibility.

    • @AdvancedGeekery
      @AdvancedGeekery  Рік тому

      I agree. I started with Arca, but found it was too "twisty" for my needs. It's a good option, though.

    Hi, first of all I love the first introduction part: still relevant today as it was last year. I had some of the neewer plates, but the clamp sometimes rotates and not stay in place, when I unlock it. is it something you experience as well?

    • @AdvancedGeekery
      @AdvancedGeekery  3 роки тому

      So far, I haven't had any problems, as long as I pay attention when securing them. I've missed closing them once or twice, so it's place-check, not place-do-other-stuff now, and that works for me.

      I'm not sure. I removed a few of them. Probably to provide positive tension against whatever it's being attached to.

    I honestly just have a bunch of Ulanzi Claws all over~ my only issue is that it's kinda small and the rigs can't sit stable on tables. Otherwise it's the fastest and most reliable system for me, they support a good amount of weight, work in any orientations, and are only $20 a set

    • @AdvancedGeekery

      I thought about it initially. I do have a great way of embedding brass fittings into 3D models. But I wanted something made of metal to handle the weight and the sheer forces. Would have been cheaper, though.

    Not impressed with anything you have shown -- I long for the "Good-ol'-days" when the Stroboframe Quick Release system was available! Click, it's on, push, it's off -- I've used it for years -- yes, with all of their anti-twist plates. You did soooo much fiddling around here, that if I did that in a Wedding, the B&G would be halfway through their honeymoon, while I'd still be fiddling with ANY of the QR stuff shown here.
    Have you looked at the Ulanzi Falcam F-38 system?
