    Brilliant video mate, love seeing the updates on this tank, the Ion director looks like a nice bit of kit, cant believe you broke the new rockscape off haha, at least you managed to attach it again!

      Cheers Ross, yeah I'm very impressed with it.
      I know... What a Muppet! At that point I should have removed the rock and scrubbed the algae off, but I panicked and quickly reattached it 🤦🏻‍♂️

    Regarding the algae, I think it is also ties into the nitrates in the rock, your other rocks are mature and out of nitrate, when you reduced nitrates, algae is growing on the new rock, sucking the nitrates coming off it, as it is the only area with higher nitrates. That's my theory as Tidal gardens did a video where they had zero nitrates but due to the rock having nitrates, algae was growing etc

    • @NanoTankReefer
      @NanoTankReefer  3 роки тому +1

      I've always had a little lettuce algae in the tank, mainly on the gyre and return nozzle. I let it grow there as it's easily removed every other week. Since the new rock has been added it's stopped growing on the usual places and moved down to the rock 😭
      I'll have to check out the tidal gardens video. I didn't cure this rock like I did on the nano tank... That'll teach me for taking shortcuts 🤦🏻‍♂️

      @@NanoTankReefer if easier the video is called "the ugly stage" where it happened to their new Sps tank built with dry rock. Which is what I've just done ..so looking forward to it!

      @@NanoTankReefer I did the same in my mature nano, I thought it would be fine adding only a small extra rock. Damn I wish I had waited as it was almost like resetting my tank to week 1.

    HEY MAN! how did you mount those corals to the back? just gluing them the frag plug to the wall?

    • @NanoTankReefer
      @NanoTankReefer  3 роки тому +1

      I used 2 part epoxy and super glue. I'm pretty sure there's an easier way than used... It was a bit of a faff

    Wait..I was going to get a phosphate reactor because of you lol. How come you removed it and rely on quantum phosphate now? Is it cheaper and less maintenance work? I didn't even know it worked on nitrates too, thought it was just phosphates. Realise every tank is different, but is there a level of ppm you are aiming for when it comes to phosphate and nitrates?

    • @NanoTankReefer
      @NanoTankReefer  3 роки тому +1

      The reactor is great and I would honestly recommend it if GFO is your method of removing phosphates. The only issue I have with gfo is instability, fresh media removes po4 down to 0.02-0.04 great but as the media starts getting exhausted it creeps up and up until I change it at around 0.06-0.08
      Lanthanum Chloride is dosed throughout the day and maintains my po4 at 0.04 100% of the time plus it doesn't cause a mess in my sump. It's not to say that I won't go back to GFO but I also wanted to expand my knowledge and try another method for a little while.
      Lanthanum Chloride doesn't work on nitrates 🙈 that was me slipping up on my words and saying nitrates instead of phosphates... I should have picked that up in editing 😬

      @@NanoTankReefer it's all good. I'm just educating myself on the best method without a refugium. Heard good things about quantum phosphate so good to hear your points. Thanks
      I guess with your skimmer, media in sump, live rock, you got enough bacteria to keep your nitrates down

    • @NanoTankReefer
      @NanoTankReefer  3 роки тому +1

      The quantum product works well. It's a little disappointing how weak the solution is given its cost. There's a few different brands on the market and I'm currently trying to work out how cost effective each product is based on price and concentration of lanthanum chloride. If I find a more concentrated product like ATM agent green I may buy that and water it down to the same concentration as the quantum one so I can keep the dosing the same and save a little each month
