Birdie diapers!
Small, fuzzy feathers are forming on the babies…
Mom is feeding an insect first and the white fluff it is carrying out is a fecal sac. Essentially diapers, so they are called ‘Birdie diapers’!
Learnt about Birdie diapers when these wrens nested on the deck a few years ago. Birdie babies make excreta in a gel like fecal sac so that it is easier for parents to clean up and there are no bad odors in their living quarters! 😲
Parents clean it out instantly not only for nest hygiene but also to prevent predators from sniffing them out.
