    Long ago, in a galaxy far, far away, there was an entirely different version of Star Wars: Battlefront that some lucky gamers saw, yet none ever played. At last, we have it in our hands! Was Pandemic's original vision of Battlefront superior? Or has time favored the final product?

    The vehicle-centric maps are probably a hold over from the Clone Wars 2002 game that Pandemic also developed, which was almost entirely vehicle-centric with only a few on-foot levels that were extremely clunky to play because the game was designed with vehicles in mind. They probably wanted the same scale as that game (which honestly did do the scale very well as the battles are massive).

    Alright now I wanna see modders remake the maps from this battlefront for the released versions

      There already have been. Like I said at the end of the video, you can typically track them down on places like Filefront and ModDB. If there's one thing Battlefront modders love to do, it's converting missing maps back into the 2004 and 2005 entries of Battlefront.

    Interesting to see the original vision for Battlefront.

      It's a surreal experience, both to finally uncover it and to play it. At first, it was like relearning how to walk, but I got to grips with the looser aiming input over time.

    As a sort of sequel to this video, it'd be cool to see you cover what could have been in Battlefront 3. There's so much known about it its incredible. Lots of lesser known details that I've found from their powerpoint to initially present the game, for instance: Flying your own ATATs into the shield on hoth, and them wanting to add a skateboard grinding type of system for starfighters to skim across moving capital ships, force abilites while in starfighters etc.
    Could be a cool thing to look into!

      I'm exploring the current emulation options for Battlefront 3's Pre-Alpha. There's even a handful of mods that can make the Pre-Alpha a bit more functional, closer to Revision 7 than the Revision 6 build that leaked, but that's gonna take a lot of D.I.Y.-ing with Xenia and file manipulation to get running close to smoothly.
      Definitely on the table for the future, but it's gonna be a slow-going process to ensure it's of a stable quality.

    I remember playing MajinRevan's mods that used some of these elements. Theed's fountain on Kaadara Coast, sneaking to the other side of the map as a disguised Bothan and sabotaging their vehicles with grenades... good times

    I wonder if someone could use this version to make it better. Like how there should be more players available on the maps

      Realistically, this is a compiled/gold build, so that'd be A LOT of work. The easier thing most have done is converting the maps themselves to the PC version and cranking up the numbers. There's even an attempt right now to reverse engineer Battlefront 2 to Unity that can support a thousand active NPCs at a time. It's not quite fully playable yet, but I'd recommend keeping an eye out.

      Sadly for legal reasons I can't say. It's not exactly hidden, but I wouldn't bother trying to emulate it ATM - the last guy I saw who tried that, ended up with it running at 50% speed with borked sound files. Unless you've got actual hardware, it's just not playable.

  • @Ash21

    Has anyone gotten this to work on an xbox emulator?

    • @UnabridgedGamer
      @UnabridgedGamer  Рік тому +1

      Yes, but last I heard it runs at 50% speed with no sound. That was part of the reason I went through all the trouble of getting original hardware. OG Xbox emulation is very tricky these days, but it's improving - at like 60% compatibility these days.

    So how can we play it?

    • @UnabridgedGamer
      @UnabridgedGamer  Рік тому +2

      As I said - the easiest way is to track down fan conversions of the maps for the PC release.
      The original Xbox version requires a homebrewed Original Xbox with an internal HDD big enough to support the game, plus setting up an FTP server to transfer the files. It's not exactly a convenient setup for the average player.
