The upside-down shot of her riding with the shadow being upright is so cool
Thanks dude!
It reminds me of The Tree of Life
That shot brought joy to my eyes ;-)
@@DannyGevirtz did you shoot this whole video with the 24-70 2.8?
this guy behind the camera and the craftiness behind the edits of sound design is truly inspiring.
Haha thanks dude!
Great work mate! Loved the sound design and composition! Awesome character too!
Thanks dude! Yeah Sierra is the best
It should be illegal to be this good.
Haha thanks dude!
or to NOT be this good 😊
Just came off of watching your podcast with Carlo and now bam! We're back to old school Danny short films! Fine Tuesday we're having! 😁
Didn’t even realize the Carlo pod was out yet haha
Where can i find this podcast please?
I've watched a half-dozen reviews of this camera. All of them talking about dynamic range, frame rates, and autofocus. This is the only one I've seen that truly gives some perspective as to what can be done with it. And that is, you can create art with it. Well done, Danny!
Thanks man!
Danny`s works is great, but the cameras dynamic range not too much
@@PS-ys9yg the dr is low because there was no denoising , do the same on s5iix or a74 or a73 and itll show the same figure
@@PS-ys9yg Educate yourself, go on Cined and watch the different reviews and more precisely the latitude test. Guess what best camera with Sony based sensor before the Burano.................... Ohhh Nikon z9. Why, because NR can fool software like Imatest. Nikon gives you more of the noise/details in the Nraw.
Dude, I don't know how you do it! These shorts just keeps getting better and better and better. You're such an inspiration!
The timing of you posting this is wild, I’ve been in the works of my own skate vid and this is exactly what I needed to see to push things even farther, thanks Danny
Haha nice dude! We shot this like 6 months ago too
@@DannyGevirtz those shots in the parking garage are next level, also brother GREAT MOVIE!!!! #itis
The parking garage shots with the sunsets are absolutely maad!
Hands down Danny I genuinely think your'e the best I've seen at creating these short sports related mini docs/montage pieces, your talent is ridiculous and the fact that you rarely talk about gear is refreshing. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!!!!
Dang man thank you!
this guy! time and time again making mirrorless cameras look like top Hollywood productions and reminding us it's not the gear stopping us from producing quality work - super inspiring
Thanks so much!
Hello there! I'm really curious about the background music you mentioned. Could you please tell me more about it? I'd love to find out where I can download to it too.
Those sound are something special. Partricularly the part with the speeding and the whooshes ot 03:05
This is, like, world-class, great commercial filmmaking. Pacing and cutting is so amazing. So much life. Great work.
incredible work on the one Danny!
So, you're going to drop that sound design video soon, right?! We needs it!
The “on board” shots are so dope.
Great work.
I’ve been skating most of my life and you definitely captured the feeling that skateboarding gives.
Danny….. This was AMAZING 🔥we need a BTS video asap! 😫
Thanks dude! Lol my Instagram post might be the only bts I post
You just know how to create a feeling so well Danny. Beautiful
Thanks Alex!
Another level!
Thanks so much!
Hey Danny,
Wow, what an amazing and inspiring video! Your creativity and storytelling skills are incredible. I’m so motivated by your work that I feel the need to recreate this video just to practice and learn from your technique. Keep up the fantastic work! 🌟 Love you!
goddamn this is so good ~ Sierra is such a light!
So great. I know Nikon is going to use this to push cameras but the most obvious conclusion from watching your work is that the camera doesn't matter. Will there be a BTS?
Plz make a detail video on what picture profile u used and how you graded this beautiful video
Please brother it’s a humble request
Beautifully crafted Danny! I'd like to hear your insight on how you get really great narrative content from an interview. I suppose it's all about the person and the energy and personality they bring. However I imagine it's also about the questions you've thought of and making them comfortable on set. I'll have to check your backlog of videos, but if you have any wisdom to impart I'd love to hear it. Which comes first, the person's story, or the video idea?
Hopefully I didnt miss it but all I want to know is what LENSES WERE USED. Thank you.
Wow, Danny! Right from the very beginning, this is incredibly captivating. The way you draw the viewer in from the start is truly impressive. I'm hooked and can't stop watching!
Thanks so much man!
@@DannyGevirtz Credit where credit's due man. Your work is really inspiring.
The camera adds nothing to this imo. Could have been shot on an R6 or A7iii. It's the sound design that's made this short film amazing.
First, it looks great. The image quality is incredible. I own the Z6, which I bought because the image is also great, but it never really caught on in my industry. Sony just dominates the space in peoples minds regardless of the alternatives. Looking forward to hearing about the Z6 III experience. Things like poor AF or absense of other filmmaking menu options can be dealbreakers. Also, overheating is huge for long recording sessions. Did it survive the interview?
So I really respect storytelling, camera movement, and editing. One day I will be able to produce work like this too.
Niceee. As a Sony fx3 owner which camera would you recommend to buy ? This or the fx3 ?
LOVE LOVE LOVE this!
Please say you have a BTS vid coming soon?
Would love to know the experience of grading N-Log, hats off to you. this was terrific.
Hi, this is the first time when I see an amazing video made with Nikon camera. Very impressive! I am curious what kind of lens did you use for interview detail shot? Thanks in advance! :)
What aspect ratio is this?
would be nice to have gotten some insight from you after using the camera. the images speak for themselves, but your very next video was about how much you still love the fx3. im sure you didnt hate using the nikon but would be interesting to hear your thoughts about the user experience with the z6
Stunning film Danny! It was a pleasure to watch. At the end you used a couple of flash-cuts effects, wich one are you using if I may ask?
Yo how am I just seeing this! I'm a fan of your work. Love this!
Gotta admit, its gonna be tough to go back to my edit now after watching this HAHA Unreal how consistently good your work is! Hope you're well dude!
Haha thank you bro!!! Never doesn’t put a smile on my face to see you in the comments
@@DannyGevirtz
i like her style and outfit. The color of this video is so complimenting. wow
I love this short film so so so much. I’m doing a similar documentary project that I’d like to get similar shots for. How did you get some of the shots that are moving at the same speed as her on the skateboard and especially how did you get the camera so low? Keep up the amazing work!
that`s the reason why I replaced my netflix abo with you channel 🔥
The full package, top to bottom this is just so great. Visualy , emotional, acoustically wonderful. Bravo Danny!
WOWWWW The shots make the interview much more immersive. I just found your channel and you're one of the best creators I've seen this year!
you need to go back and watch every video... they are so great
Can anyone please tell me what kind of film look this is called? or what is the name of LUT used in this
That parking structure looked amazing- what’s location!
If Apple don’t call you after this I’ll be a monkeys uncle, cos you totally blew the bloody doors off with this one. I liked it. Yeah.
Haha thank you!
still have serious blue overflow problem.hope nlog2 or sth else can release soon to fix that.nice fim, though.
That was fun! My skateboard is over there in the corner giving me the eye 👀🛹 like girl where you been?
Captured the essence of skateboarding in the most beautiful way possible. Good work man!
UA-cam doesn't serve up your content anymore. Glad I remembered to go and see what you've been up to! The sound designs is so on point!
Your ability to create such a compelling story with minimum gear is just incredible! Great job, Dannny!
This is super inspiring! Watched it twice in a row because of how good it is…
Great! Really like your style doing shooting and edits. 🤘
Immediately subbed after 30 seconds
God damnit that was sooooo good. Colors, comp., story - so fucking good. The kind of good that makes me questions what the fuck i'm doing with my life 💀👏🏼
Haha nah man! Thank you!
nice! all audio recorded with sennheiser mke400?
Immediately grabbed my board after watching this
Nice try Nikon but NO😄.... But if seriously nice work bro 😎👍
What’s your process for meeting or getting inspired by your subjects? I know a lot of the people you’ve shot with are usually athletes involved in the interest and passion you have for running and other athletics but are these usually people you already know or people you come across on UA-cam and are inspired by?
It all translates so well. The camera looks great and you shot it wonderfully but I’m curious on your creative process more than the camera
I just look for people with big hearts!
Awesome film and great color!
Do you know if the camera allows custom 3D LUT monitoring? It's not clear from Nikon's video if it does.
I’m pretty sure it does
Wow, everything about this was gorgeous! Incredible work!!! Such a joy to watch!
Too good Danny. So many creative shots. Sound design was great as well. Amazing work.
How many stops of dynamic range? Just 10 or 11???
Incredible Work, Danny! Greetings from São Paulo, Brazil!
I was wondering, how do you get locations like parking? I've tried recording in parking lots before (from the top of buildings and underground), and it's always very difficult... they usually don't let me. Any tips?
Hey man! We paid for a permit to use this location
that's wild, Sierra was friends with my sis back in high school. gonna send this video to her now:) (also LOVE the "Brink" reference for the title lol)
Haha Sierra is one of the coolest people ever
In South Africa, we say "O stara grootman" meaning "You're incredibly good at what you do"
Haha thank you sir!
is the noise artificallyu added for emphasis or its the camera ?
(beacuse i got an nikon zf when it launched and it has some noise issues in the shadows which I clear out in post)
Audio sounds great, what mics are you using for her dialogue?
As a writer, well done with the swing of emotions. It was happy.. yet provoked a lot of deep emotions for me. Skateboarding is alchemy. You can take all sorts of life experiences and focus it into tricks on a piece of wood. Skating still continues to inspire me and help me let go daily. I would love to write something with you for a future film. What's your email?
Yeah, she gets it! This was rad and so well done man, as usual!
Funny how people in the comments aren´t commenting about the new Nikon. We have understood that is the guy behind the camera.
Haha this is always true!
Please tell me you have a bts for this! Too good. Her eyes are stunning.
Wow! What an amazing short film! Hope this doesn’t mean you’re gonna switch lol 😅
Haha I’m not
I can't believe you switched from the FX3 to the Nikon Z6 iii... really.... tell me its just an advertisement
Haha it’s just a sponsorship and if I did it wouldn’t matter
Killer stuff as always Danny! Amped to see what’s next.
Hey, Danny (or everyone else who saw this comment). If you don't mind me asking, how long does it take for a professional filmmaker to realistically shoot footage for this kind of short? I'm a self-taught videographer and never seen a professional production work in realtime. Thanks. Any insight is greatly appreciated!
Not long! I’d say a year or two of obsessive work!
f**k u, Danny;) this short is too good to ever exist!
I wasn't aware of how Nikon was performing on video. But it looks very good man. Are you sharing a BTS of this video? I would be glad to watch it 😊
Haha thanks man! Nah no bts video in store
Beautiful stuff Danny.
Flip that was rad.
This looks amazing. How do you feel it compares to the FX3?
I like the fx3 better
bro, storytelling wants its last name back cause apparently you took it from them.
Hahaha thanks dude
Amazing work! Wich lens did u use ?
can you load luts into the camera? and toggle from log to 709?
I can't believe you managed to shoot this on a potato, so talented, haha! #LoveYouNikon
Come on danyyyyy...aren't you going to fail one day? isn't it exhausting always being good? Always inspiring, man. Always
Haha I fail plenty man
Did you script the interview out? Or were there certain key phrases that you scripted out so that you had something to base your B roll off of? What’s the process there?
I had an outline for questions but Sierra nailed it all
Great shots and composition man! On what lenses did you shoot this?
Really lovely video. Happy to see some nice content shot with a Nikon and since I pre-ordered the Nikon z6 iii in particular happy seeing this coming from this camera. Curious to know what format this was shot in? Log or RAW? What was your experience with the Z lenses and manual focus? I find it hard to use them for that. For auto-focus the Z lenses work fine but for manual I prefer the older lenses.
Thanks man! I just shot raw for most of it and the auto focus was solid!
@@DannyGevirtz Thanks, good to know. For the focus bit I was wondering how you liked the manual focus part on the Z lenses.
I don't know how you do it Danny, you're the best when it comes to making these shorts. Please keep making these. They are inspiring! The skate boarder is so awesome! Loved her passion.
Great video and storytelling
I need to know if he used the external monitor for recording...
SO FRICKEN GOOD. The colors, the pacing, the sound design... AHHH. I was wondering though, do you still do that interview technique where you interview them, create a more condense and concise version of what they say, and then have them read it? Or was this more of a natural interview? Love your work Danny
Nah this was all just Sierra being awesome!
@@DannyGevirtz bro even better. It would be so cool if you made a video on how to have more authentic interviews with subjects, unless it’s pretty straight forward
yup. this is heat.
Brilliant edit, beautiful shots, well done!
damn, i don't normally comment but what a great work
Being about to showcase such an impactful portrait of another human being is a true gift! Beautiful job Danny!
Nikon made the right decision on picking Danny. Man I think I want this camera now lol. I was already in aww over the z8 . I need to know how you did the skateboard rig Danny, show us.
Haha just a couple of cards nothing fancy!
This was AMAZING! Makes me want to jump back on my skateboard. You really captured the emotion of of the sport.
Haha same! Thanks!
The audio transitions in this video are epic......
Beautifully done, Danny! Inspiring and joyful!
Thank you Chris!!
