    What Cannon did is actually incredible. The amount of pressure you would feel when sitting next to poker professionals must be huge. Yet he not only maintained his calm but once he realized he was being underestimated, he took full advantage of the situation. When they started to see that he shouldn't be underestimated he took advantage of that as well. Well played, sir.

If he bets anything, it means he either beats the straight or is bluffing himself. In that position, he wants Dan to think that he is bluffing, so he makes a large over bet to try and pretend a bluff. It didn't work, but I think that is the reasoning behind the play.

      The reason why newbies win, is because he is 1. Decent, and 2. other players have never seen him play so don't know what to expect and therefore risk manage... aka fold. After the Pro's have seen this rewind of the game with all his cards and how he plays. He can't pull this trick again, ever. This is the edge of a newbie.

    • @TheHufon
      @TheHufon 2 роки тому +48

      @@Ken-zj9sx A lot of separate stuff that tied into each other:
      - Bobby Sura and Daniel being really really passive (the so-called "murder row" of "action junkies" in Seiver, Tony G and Viffer), so Gonzo got into A LOT of flops without being isolated by the pros
      - generally low 3-bet %, there was a lot of limping and min raises. Again, helps cannons more than anyone else. If someone like Minieri was behind him, it would be a completely different story.
      - Insane win% at Showdown; I think the first time he got snuffed out was Seiver catching one of his bluffs in 3rd episode (Martinez against Laak in 1st hand of the session said something like "if you win the money, I'm gonna believe you for the rest of the night"). So they were really afraid to look him up. Also in that hand there was a 4 card flush. Realistically, 10 high flush on that board is a bluff catcher, no one is likely gonna value bet anything less than 10.
      - There was also some meta gaming against the pros (the insta calls into Tony and pretty slow decisions against Seiver).
      - He wasn't just running good. He was running wicked good
      - Most importantly, he was making really good decisions (sure some of them just stunk, the straight against Bobby that he just didnt get absolutely any value from, but those were really rare). He played great poker for 150 hands, and didn't have a singular "one shot profit" hand like Ferdinand or Fishman. He ran the table the entire time. And when you are getting Tony G to fold 3rd nuts etc., they are giving you mad respect in terms of hand strengths.
