Hey Alex, I recently bought a 6’6 MH Shakespeare Excursion Casting rod at Walmart for 5$. Fished with it a few times down here in MS. Caught a nice 2 1/2 pound largemouth, and I have had no issues with it. Thanks for all the videos you pump out, you have inspired me to be realistic about fishing. I am on a budget and your videos have taught me many things. Especially saving money. Thanks Man.

It's cool to hear that, you can catch fish with a broomstick if you want, theres no reason to pay 100$ for a rod and reel

    Not quite a Heron.
There is this one lake that I camp at in the Sierra Nevada mountains. The cove I fish is pretty quiet, but great for Trout, Catfish, Sunfish, and the occasional small mouth. But it never fails, I could be fishing there 10 minutes, or 3 hours and there will guaranteed be an Osprey that comes by and crashes into the water only to pull out a good sized trout. This always happens about 50 yards from where I have my line.
It is pretty cool to see them though. It's a mating pair and they have a nest somewhere close to the cove. Gorgeous birds and impressive how they continuously beat me in fish landed.

That’s a handful of bass on the YoZuri jerkbait. Not a criticism here, but I would have rigged the jerkbait of the Abu reel & Vengeance Rod (good rod btw), and the dropshot on the spinning reel.

Nick Alvarez well, neither do I. I think my last spinning reel was a $17 special. My comment wasn’t a criticism ( I think I even said that), I was just wondering why he chose to rig his two rod and reels the way he did, and he answered me explaining why he did what he did. Apparently, he wasn’t offended, just other people in this thread. 🙄

Good work. Weather has turned off cooler here too and has slowed them down. I caught 63 bluegill Saturday, all nice ones and a couple small bass. Went yesterday and only got a handful of small bluegill and a couple more small bass. Interesting to note, those small bass have kept my bass streak alive. I've caught at least one bass 6 trips in a row so far.

Here in Richmond VA area I constantly see hawks, eagles and osprey swoop down for fish. It is so awesome to see. One time I was reeling in a small crappie and a hawk flew out of a tree right towards me chasing my crappie. I started yelling and swinging my pole to scare it away. It flew away about 15 feet from me. I could see the hawks eyes zeroed on my fish and at me as it turned to fly off. Was hilarious and a lil scary afterwards, lol. I dont understand whats wrong with those gulp minnows i dropshotted the absolute hell out of them all throughout the winter until now and they just have not produces very much. Not only dropshot but ive texas rigged them, ive put the weedless with no weight, ive tried different sizes, different size hooks, and it baffles me

I do well on the 1 inch. But i rarely catch anything big on them. Never caught anything on the 3 inch

Realistic Fishing it must be a location thing. the main diet throughout winter time for our bass are minnows. Shiners. Golden shiners, creekchubs. Hell even small bluegill. Ive caught hundreds of largemouth on live bait in the winter. Down to the coldest negative temps. So, when I had the idea of fishing a gulp emerald shiner via drop shot or texas rig as slowly as i wanted mind you, i figured I would for sure be able to hammer them. Maybe its the shine a shiner throws off? The wiggling action rather then a twitch? Or maybe just the gulp flavor vs a live shiner. I dont know. The best artificial bait for the winter season this/last year ended up being a tiny lead head and bright green grub with hair.

Curious question, why do you bring them to land after you catch them? Is it to insure that you land the catch?

Its easier to get the hooks out when the fish is laying on something. If you try to grab the fish out of the water, you could get hooked.

My favorite: Gulp Minnow on a 1/16th oz. jig. If I'm ever cursed to only have one set-up, that would be it. Wish I could ever find them for a dollar. Jeez.

@@RealisticFishing I'd use an 1/8thoz jighead. Standard lead ball head. Vary the retrieve from a steady, it a slow long pull then let drop, or jig on the bottom or above the snags. Haven't caught carp or cats with it, but pretty much everything else

Careful with that rod bud. I bought and returned two of those when they were on sale cuz the inserts would crack and cut line
