This continuous comment in each and every video about sync nowadays. Im a proud DDJ1000 owner and working 4 decks without sync. But to me its no way cheating if you chose to use sync. It cheating on yourself not using it because people tell you its not real DJing with sync. Those people forget or are ignorant that the BPM is shown on each and every display available in a DJ hardware set. And its as easy as sliding the slider to the proper BPM purely based on the shown numbers as pressing sync. If you think DJ ing with sync is not realy DJing then there is nomore real DJing around these days. Besides... DJing changed from beatmatching to performance. The least you should worry about in DJ'ing IS beatmatching.. its the part your public is not hearing and couldn't care less about. What they do care about is whats coming out of the speakers.

Fantastic intro. I wish more people would understand how little 99% of djs actually need to play well. It's awesome seeing all these feature heavy "performance mixes" on the youtubes, but, for most audiences, if you try mixing like that for a couple hours, they will get annoyed and clear the floor. I think most would be more than satisfied with a ddj-400 or sb3, which both, honestly, do as much or more than a nexus2 setup

thanks Ellaskins for responding to us and making this video.
As a beginner, I'll buy DDJ-1000 because I'm gonna have to learn Rekordbox and if one day in the future I want to use CDJs or RMXs the 4 channel mixer of DDJ-1000 will make it easier for me so I don't need to upgrade to another equipment.

  • @RaquelFoster
    @RaquelFoster 4 роки тому +10

I always thought the XDJ-RX was ugly. I got a DDJ-1000 because I wanted the full-size wheels. Then I sold it and got real CDJs on eBay. But now I'm probably going to play at a club with just an RX2 so I ended up getting one to get comfortable with it.
My impression from pictures was totally backwards. The DDJ-1000 feels cheap compared to CDJs, and the screens in the wheels are obviously phone screens blacked out to look more round. And the buttons are all weird on the DDJ-1000. It always felt super awkward. The Memory Cues are totally in the wrong place and you need to use Shift to navigate them. It's terrible.
In person the RX2 is a lot nicer than the DDJ-1000. It weighs almost twice as much. The wheels are really solid. My CDJs have more wobble than the RX2 does when you push on the wheel to stop it. The square hot cues look nice, and it's more like a NXS2. And obviously it's a stand-alone with an interface that's totally like CDJs. The RX2 doesn't cost much more than the DDJ-1000, but it feels so much more solid and it's a million times closer to using real club equipment than a DDJ-1000. If you want a controller just get a DDJ-400. At least the DDJ-400 has the buttons in the right place, and it'll fit in a carry-on.

Omg no no no the 400s lol baby beginner controller.. All about the 800 or the 1000s.. Cdj and djm dna from club to affordable controller with some many features identical to cdj set up.. Yes a few features require holding shift and may feel on cheap side to cdj but your talking £1200 compaired to a £7, 000 set up.. The 1000s are best ever.. Dvs ready.. Stand alone mixer colour and beat fx.. Full size jogs, rekordbox software is absolutely amazing

Let me share my experience with the RX2 for those can be bothered to read this... I bought one brand new back in December. I chose this over any of the controllers due to the fact (as Jonathon said) it's standalone. Another reason is that I use CDJ's in the clubs and have done for years so my muscle memory and habits are now linked with that layout and format of Pioneer DJM/CDJ's. The RX2 does a GREAT job of simulating the CDJ/DJM configuration. The onboard FX are where you'd expect them to be along with the tap and beat buttons, the master and Sync buttons are where you'd expect them to be. The browser works almost exactly the same as that on the CDJ2000nxs2, Loop buttons are the same you get the idea, Pioneer has basically given you all the essentials are the CDJ range. And most importantly... the RX2 works with LINK mode which is my personal method of DJ'ing in the club (I mean using my laptop as a big external hard drive and putting it under the booth) I could go on talking for hours about how good this unit is. But just over a month later do I still have it? No. I found it very hard to get used to the platter size and I felt very confined in one place due to its compact size. It's hard to give a good stage presence in my opinion with something so small. So I personally traded it in for a pair of XDJ 1000mk2's (I already had a DJM850 so I didn't have to worry about the cost for a mixer), but I would highly recommend the RX2 to anyone after the compact all-in-one layout or simply a decent controller. If you want to use the RX2 PURELY as a controller, the DDJ1000 may be your best bet.

Iceman _24 It’s always seemed to me that a laptop is endlessly capable. If there is a computer up there, djing could be as simple or as complex as you want it to be. People see a laptop on a stage and wonder why there is even a guy standing up there, he could just press play on a prerecorded mix and go have a smoke, grab a drink and join the party. When someone is up there with no computer, people look at him like “damn, hows he doing that, dude has a skill that I don’t understand” similar to playing an instrument. Then you have musicians who look at anyone with technology and think they aren’t making music a machine is.

Amazing performance, music selection vibe and connection with crowd, you cant fake it or buy it. No equipment can do this for you. I am so glad he did this video because as a new DJ, it is important to choose the tools that will give you the best results. Denon Prime 4 looks amazing but it does what it needed to get the best out of my DJing skills? No. Will I get the best Beat-match? No. Will my blends be tighter? NO. Will I be able to use the standard DJ system for possible gigs? NO! Why should I buy the Denon Prime 4? That is the question. A $1700 question. I own the Pioneer DDJ 400 and intend on upgrading to the DDJ 1000. DJs: Don't allow others DJ equipment companies to sway you into the latest and greatest. If your fellow DJs are not using them for their gigs, you shouldn't either.

what that is with the phono are a turntable play with a moving coil or moving magnet cartridge which is a different signal to digital signal so you would need a phono stage to convert the signal or a digital to anologe converter poss could work

Weirdly, I have literally just sold a DDJ1000 and purchased an XDJ RX2. Why?? Well, the DDJ1000 was an awesome bit of kit, great FX, 4 channels and brilliant at creating Mashup mixes using Rekordbox and VDJ. Awesome for use with Stems with VDJ if your a user.. However, with my laptop, it crashed every 30 mins on both softwares. After a month of real headaches, I was convinced the RX2 was my best option compared to upgrading laptop. 2 days in, the RX2 is brilliant and so much easier with usb using Rekordbox or normal mp3 files, no laptop, brilliant touch screen. Perhaps only 2 channels but so far, IMO, for reliability playing out live, the RX2 perhaps shades it. I do miss the DDJ1000 though.

I bought the Sc5000 and X1800 mixer Prime system, within 3 hours the mixer completely locked up and was totally unresponsive. Faders, effects, volume was all locked up. I cant trust it so I sent it back. The Prime 4 will have to prove itself before I lean towards Denon again. Prime Engine is a mess and support wasnt great either. Time will tell

Hey mate what are your thoughts on using USB vs Rekordbox vs CDs on digital formats. I've been a digital Dj for several years till I thought I should resurrect my career and started learning vinyl and turntablism. Still very much an electronic music Dj. These days I'm mainly Vinyl Only but do own a full NXS2 setup as well (the industry will sell you anything these days to tell you it's never enough so made the investment, now I hope it's not too much for them Lol anyways). I've found latency issues when using hot cues for example, using USB on a CDJ 2000nxs2, but not when I'm using a CD, thats when I'm doing things on the fly (i don't use softwares like Rekordbox or Serato, will be nice to learn those at home for fun only), rather than a pre-prepared set'. Would like to know if you have observed any such thing. I try and use my CDJ just like a vinyl turntable so I refrain from using any "cool" tricks, so I still use CDs. Many younger folk like to delve in many cool functions, which are probably more important when you play radio music for example as listeners already know what the track is, but for more underground styles its so much more fun when you do things on the fly, things that you wouldnt do on your next set. Any ways latency on CDs vs USB on CDJs was the main point here that I have noticed. Cheers. And your thoughts appreciated.

not sure why the stand alone means so much. Computers in 2019 are super stable. U are still looking at a screen either way. When you are lugging around hundreds of pounds of gear - whats a 4 pound laptop added to that. I never once saw a controller DJ mock a stand alone - so not sure why all the hate the other way.

The original use of USB sticks was for DJs switching up sets they were never really never intended to do 4+ hour long sets but you can do it nowadays, I think people wanna be looked at as a pro DJ from the turntable era without the tables i guess its a lazy alternative IMO and I own a standalone unit, there nice to have but if your a heavy performer like a hiphop DJ I would look at something with a laptop cause USB stick will get hot and glitch scan disk stick aswell, I still have not saw a DJ with a USB unit not use his laptop the conviniance might not be want want u think usb prep can be a pain. we will see how Denon Prime Controller do on the market with the bult in ssd storage drive processing power seems to be the question with Denon software.

I love the DDJ-1000 for its big job wheels but it is a very expensive piece of "plastic".
I'm not against plastic build devices but I compared the XDJ-RX2 with the DDJ-1000 next together in a shop and my conclusion is the XDJ-RX2 is a way much better build of gear than the DDJ-1000
The line faders of the DDJ are very wobbly, like they will brake of very soon, also the EQ knobs are very wobbly although they have metal studs.
The whole mixer part of the DDJ-1000 feels "plastic" and with that glossy face plate it is a fingerprint magnet.
Everything feels more solid with the XDJ-RX2.
I've had the DDJ-RZ - DDJ-SX - DDJ-RR for testing in the past and they feel all more solid than the DDJ-1000
Will stay some time with my Xone DB4 and my 2 denon SC2000 controllers with Traktor because I still feel comfortable with this setup.
This gear was introduced about 2011 and is still not bad at all I think.
good point on this about what gear you use Ellaskin!

I've had my DDJ1000 since August and nothing about it feels "woobly" or cheap or in anyway whatsoever going to break off soon! In fact the Magvel Crossfader on the DDJ1000 is one of the best feeling and longest lasting on the market. The RX2 may have a metal build but I can argue that's excessive for a controller.

MQ Party be careful... to me it looks like they are using same hardware and screen for the Prime as they did for the MPC Live and X. I have both of those MPC units. When they first came out, they DID freeze and require restarting sometimes! I would not expect the Prime to be 100% reliable right away. Also for DJing live, would you be comfortable installing any willy nilly firmware update on the Prime? And then go perform right after? Now I am new to all this, but I trust my own PC not to crash because I use it a lot, I can set the cpu over locking very low to keep temperatures down and give it no chance to freeze, etc. now maybe Rekordbox is prone to crashes to? I hope not. Again I am new to this, but I am waiting for a DDJ-1000 to arrive, I considered the Rx2 but just need to have r decks. Even though I am new, I just have a feeling I will be wanting to bring in either decks 3 and 4, or my external hardware.
