    I'm a retired academic and have been lasering for about 8 years. I've seen many, many UA-cam videos and am really glad I stumbled onto your channel. Your presentation style and content are the best I've seen and I've learned a great deal watching your videos. I'm really excited to watch you build your new workshop. Congratulations!

    I would think this is 3.0 because your current shop is your second workshop. You had one before y'all moved. So SamCraft 3.0. Can't wait to see the completion but will enjoy the process of construction.

    Thank you for this series! I am currently building a 20x28 shop behind my house and it is almost a carbon copy of yours. I spent weeks with graph paper and my calculator figuring out the pier foundation and questioning it the whole time. I started down the UA-cam rabbit hole and landed on Samcraft. Your simple explanations and reasoning behind your decisions made me a lot more confident in this build. I have built a lot of structures/homes in my life with a fair amount of confidence, but this was the first time attempting the pier / beam foundation in this manner. So far it has turned out amazing. At the time of this comment, I am running my floor joists across the set beams and could not be happier with the level. Spoiler alert: the "shingle shim" method was a game changer! Thank you for sharing your knowledge and keep up the amazing videos!

    Careful when you purchase your boards. I expanded my workshop this year using wet boards from a big box store (L's). They warped so bad my walls were pulled out of square while I was working on it off and on through the summer. Good luck with your new addition!

    Nice, i have not bit the bullet on the laser level yet. However, you can also find the grade level as well without the laser level. Good video i.( Mason line level). I am retired from aircraft maintenance. I agree with above. Most videos fail to explain or omit important details. Mainly because the arogance of the presenter. Your better than the experts.

  • @EngineersHomestead
    @EngineersHomestead Рік тому

    I was curious about that tool belt in the Green Acres video, my guess on Bucket Boss was right. I was eyeing it up at Menards a week or 2 ago. I ended up going with a basic Menards brand one, but shoulder straps would be nice. I roofed my shed last week and had my tool belt sliding down.

    • @Samcraftcom
      @Samcraftcom  Рік тому +1

      I'm really happy with it! It's the same belt I've had for almost four years now. I really like the straps as it lets me choose to have the belt tight or loose.

    What is the spacing of your layout? Distance between the pier centers? Thanks

  • @jeremyhedge2151
    @jeremyhedge2151 Рік тому +1

    QUESTION, 2 questions actually. Are you going to do your foundation like you did for your other workshop? And do you plan to connect the 2 shops together further down the road since your building on the same plane as the the other shop. If you are or think you might you might go ahead and frame for that option. Love your channels brother

    • @Samcraftcom
      @Samcraftcom  Рік тому +3

      This shop foundation will be a poured concrete pier foundation. Just like what you see our carport has. I've become a huge fan of that method! The two shops will be connected by a "tunnel", yes! The smaller workshop will become a dedicated UA-cam video studio space for review type content.

  • @chuckvoss9344

  • @TrevorCurrent

    Hey Sam, this is exciting, congratulations! Since you're laying out the new shop directly behind the original one, do you plan to connect them with a door/hallway between?

    • @Samcraftcom
      @Samcraftcom  Рік тому +1

      That's the plan! I've been calling it a tunnel, but not sure what it really is called. It will be fully enclosed, insulated, and open between the spaces. ShopBridge? :)

    It’s going to be a great shop. Will you beef up roof trusses if you ever want to put solar on the roof(as long as roof is inn right direction)

    • @Samcraftcom
      @Samcraftcom  Рік тому +1

      The new shop will have roof trusses, yes. It will be very strong, but I am not sure I'll put solar up there. Only for the reason of 'out of sight, out of mind'. I'm afraid I would not clean them often enough and worry about roof leaks too. That being said, I will be putting a large ground mount solar array in front of this workshop to use!

    I notice you sat your laser at 14", then said you would be using a 2x8 for both beams and floor framing, 2x8s are 7 1/4", therefore should you not be at 14 1/2" on your level?
