The FORBIDDEN Force Power LUKE SKYWALKER Used On Darktroopers in Mandalorian Season 2 Episode 8

- As Luke Skywalker began absolutely shredding through Moff Gideon’s Dark Troopers with his Green lightsaber in the Mandalorian Season 2 Episode 8, Luke used a very interesting force ability that was forbidden by the Jedi of the Republic era because of how cruel it was.
I’m going to breakdown exactly how Luke Skywalker used Force Crush against the dark troopers, and all of the other times it was used by the Jedi Order, in some pretty harsh and cruel ways.

The ability known as “Force Crush” was one of the most violent and vicious force abilities that was known by both the Jedi and Sith Orders. When using the technique, it’s user often, but not always, liften the opponent into the air - and while they were floating, the force user would implode the enemy’s body as if it were brutally crushed by the force.
This technique was very often used by those strong in the dark side, and the ability required the Dark side to flow strongly through it’s user. For this reason, the Jedi council heavily frowned upon it’s use, especially against organic, living, breathing enemies. The Jedi however even look down on those who used the force crush ability against non-sentient beings like droids, because it of course required the dark side to be channeled, potentially opening the door for the darkness to corrupt it’s user.
After Luke arrived on Moff Gideon’s light cruiser, he very quickly entered the main bays of the vessel and began absolutely tearing his Dark troopers to pieces, slashing, melting and slicing them until they dropped. This was absolutely incredible and I was so hyped to see it. Let me know in the comments what your reaction was as soon as Luke appeared on screen. At what point did you realize it was him? For me, as soon I saw the single X-Wing land, I had a very strong feeling that it would be Luke.
Near the end of Luke’s awesome hallway scene, he approaches a Dark Trooper and holds it in place, before brutally crushing it, destroying it’s inner circuitry and compressing it’s armored plating. This was of the course the force crush ability.
This actually makes a lot of sense, because we know that Luke’s new Jedi order, which hasn’t fully formed by this point in the time, is moving away from the dogmatic views of the Republic Era Jedi. Luke is not afraid of the darkness like the old Jedi were, but instead understands it’s dangers and recognizes that it can corrupt a person if embraced too deeply. The Republic era Jedi were blinded by the Light side of the force, and through discovering Jedi artifacts, studying Jedi texts and visiting old temples, Luke has learned this, and is aiming not to make the same mistake. For this reason, it’s very fitting for Luke to use this ability, which utilizes the Dark side.
Furthermore, Luke’s also wearing his Black outfit from Return of the Jedi. We know George Lucas absolutely loves his color symbolism, and Luke’s robes went from white in the earlier two movies, to Black in Return of the Jedi because of his struggles with the Dark side in that film. The first moment we see Luke enter Jabba’s palace, he force chokes the two Gammorean guards.
Now I’ll break down some of the times the Force choke ability was used trhoughtou the Clone Wars and later.
Jedi General Obi-Wan Kenobi used this brutal technique on two commando Droids on the planet Kiros, home to colonists of the Togruta species, during the Clone Wars. After they arrived on Kiros, Obi-Wan and Anakin discovered that blast charges had been planted around the area, putting the Colonists in severe danger. Obi-Wan used the dark ability so that he could recover his lightsaber, after fighting the Zygerrian Slaver Darts D’Nar, and . The use of this ability was justified because it gave Anakin Skywalker time to destroy blast charges that were planted around the city, saving the Togruta Colonists.
Later in the Clone Wars, Mace Windu also used the Force Crush ability on the Cyborg General Grievous, as he was attempting to transport Palpatine to his ship, the Invisible Hand, after kidnapping him during the Battle of Coruscant. Mace Windu’s use of the Force crush ability on Grievous crushed his lungs horribly, leading him to experience constant choking, and is actually where he gets his cough from, which we see in Revenge of the Sith. This was one of the very few times where a Jedi was ever seen using the Force Crush ability on a living being, as of course it was extremely violent and channeled the dark side heavily. Mace Windu however, was one of the few Jedi who was known to balance the Dark Side of the force. He even used the Vapaad fighting style, which incorporated the Dark side into his combat.

How luke was depicted in the episode was so elegant and balance, he wasnt rushing nor being super agressive it was like a dance he was flowing in those hallway.

I saw a comic when I was a kid (in my 40's now) where Luke crushed an AT-AT head killing the personnel in it to save Leia and Han.
When you turned the page Luke was behind them with glowing yellow red eyes.
In the Star wars universe an AT-AT is a small vehicle.

I liked that the dark troopers actually served a severe threat to mando instead of just being a bullet sponge, it also gave a chance to show how strong Luke actually is instead of making him seem more of just smoke and mirrors actually just shows his real raw abilities

When Cara Dune said, “One X-Wing?” I responded one Jedi. When I saw a single saber I assumed either Ezra or Luke. When I saw the black glove... I welled up. I wore out more than one copy of RotJ growing up and seeing Luke going ham made me feel 30 years younger.
Well let's not forget...Luke used Force Choke in the Return of the Jedi. I hardly believe at this point Light and Dark is really a difference but rather how a user welds the Force.

Thing is... Luke right at the start of Return of the Jedi is being presented as teetering right on the edge of falling to the dark side. The whole plot of RotJ is the Emperor trying to push him over that edge.
Luke pulled back from the darkness under the most extreme circumstances. I think he's figured out how to balance the Light and Dark, which suggests that he MAY have actually encountered Mace, or had contact with Mace's force ghost. Regardless of the HOW, though, it means that his effort to reestablish the Jedi order wasn't just a revamp of the Republic's stagnant order.

At this point, Luke was more Grey Side oriented than the Jedi from the Old Republic.

I honestly thought it might be Luke but mostly joking. Then my wife said it's him; look at his hand and lightsaber. I honestly thought at that point it was going to be Sebastian Stan with all the hype about Mark Hammill promoting him playing a young Luke Skywalker. Interesting to see R2D2 talk to Grogu like he knew him. Most likely he did considering R2 is basically part of the Skywalker family and belonged to Anikan.

That was the entire point about Luke. He studied and mastered the force as a whole, not just one aspect of it, and essentialy became one with it in Legends.

I recall his thoughts in one of the books I read was when he was telling Ben, his son, that some abilities are not inherently dark. This was after he used Force Lightning on his ships control console to help navigate it through some space sector.
During the Shadows of the Empire stories, Luke sought to channel the dark side to learn how better to defeat it. Ultimately he was not successful obviously, and had to fight to stray back to the light side of the Force.

I found Luke in the episode of The Mandalorian so OP. The Darktrooper Phase 3 was comparable if not more powerful than a B2 Super Battle droid. One managed to hold it's own against Mando. Mandalorians normally can hold their own with a Jedi. Luke Walked through the Darktroopers like toys.

As soon as I saw this, I immediately thought Force Crush. Luke knows the value of the different force abilities. The Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy game let you learn "dark" powers; Kyle Katarn said it was how you used the Force that determined if you were good or bad.

When I saw 1 x-wing my thiughts were: Is it Luke?! Is it Luke?! Is it Luke?!
And the he came out with the green light saber and his hand and my heart was beating at 120bpm the whole time. I was excited as hell when I saw him. I had too many emotions going through me during this episode.
This is why Luke Skywalker became arguably the most powerful Jedi in history. He used both sides of the force without being corrupted. Windu also did the same thing but still had his restrictions. I'd love to see a series depicting his adventures after Return of The Jedi. I'd also love a movie or series about the Old Republic and Vader's time after Revenge of the Sith up until New Hope.

If I'm not mistaken, Luke is one of the few Jedi, perhaps the only one, who can use abilities from the dark side of the Force without losing control and his personality. Like Force Lightning (specifically a version of it called "Electric Judgment" which has similar effects to Force lightning).

There is a theory that Luke didn’t force choke the guards, he used a Jedi mind trick to make them think they were choking. If you look at Luke’s hand he doesn’t hold his hand like Anakin does when he chokes people
I guess you never saw the clone Wars, Darth Sidious in confronting Darth Maul and Savage Oppress in Mandalore, had to take out 4 mandalorian guards by force choking them out, in which he did with very slight to no motion of his hands. This shows that a very practiced force practicioner can accomplish most force telekinesis moves without their extremities

I like that they had Luke do this here. It shows that as good as he’s gotten, he still hasn’t completely embodied the Jedi ideal and still has growing to do.
Obiwan did this, and he has a light sided jedi, and never broke the code. Plus Luke and Ashoka became the new era of Jedi, not being stuck on the Jedi code but seeking to do the will of the Force.
If you notice the force crush is used with the gloved hand which represents the dark side within Luke....when he lost his hand to Vader in empire strikes back it was to show that he wasn't ready to confront Vader, that his emotions could get the better of him like it did to Anakin that he could still turn to the dark side...and that's what's awesome about Luke he grew into a hero and became a balanced Jedi.
I called Luke coming back about a month ago. I knew based on the time line there weren't many Jedi left and he would by far (according to Legend) be the strongest.
Things I've learned about Skywalkers. Never be on the opposite side in a hallway lol.

I instantly knew it was Luke. I love all the crossovers in Star Wars series. Like how Ahsoka appears in The Mandalorian. I also love Star Wars so much I was literally crying when Luke showed up. (Happy tears) I cannot wait for The Book Of Boba.
To be fair, Luke never used force crushed on living beings. And Luke is tha Boss, he can go in and out of the darkside without temptation.

I loved this episode. Being able to share in the excitement of this series and an episode like the finale with my boys is amazing. I loved Luke showing up at the end. I know it was him few seconds after we saw the single X-Wing. What an epic series. Bravo to all involved with the making of this series.
The Jedi code is just silly to me. So you can't force crush a droid because it's a dark side force power, but you can force push a droid off a ledge or into blast fire and that's no big deal. Seriously? come on.
The part of why I love KOTOR 1 and 2 so much. The games highlight how neither the Jedi, nor Sith have all the answers. They are neither completely righteous or completely evil. The world is not black and white, star wars shouldn’t be either.

What I love is the comparing contrast between Luke and anakin in the hallway scene. Along with how broken jedi are when u watch the scene when the mandalorian was struggle with just one.
Luke was never properly trained in a Academy. Most of his force ability were self learned. so its not a surprised to me if Luke occassionally uses a 'dark' ability.
Exactly. He's not tainted by narrative based training. He saw the force crush as useful against droids, so he employed the technique without the context of it being a "dark ability" and thus wasn't tempted by the dark side in its use. Imagine someone learning how to use a gun as a tool for self defense from a young age, never having the context that they can use it for amoral purposes.
I was so excited to see force crush used in the Mandalorian
It makes sense when it comes to Luke, because of the fact that his family tree all have had some darkness in them, but like Anakin, Luke was able to control this power, and as stated, he was not scared of it. This fact was a major reason why the jedi council had their limits, because of their way to limit them to the view on what is wrong and right in which scenarious. If we go back, before darkness and light was good and bad, they lived in harmony because they saw each others limits. I personolly find the Sith way more of a free-minded way, because they are not limited, like the light side.
Luke’s clothes are black, but lined in white. To me this represents his inner balance.

I found it to be a really nice touch in the scene Luke used the ‘force crush’ with his robotic hand almost as a call back to his father and his iconic move and since that was such a big form of symbolism in the original trilogy as it showed his transformation into his father
Vader swept the power from the inside of one Jedi after Order 66 in the comic and Mace Windu squeezed grievous from the inside in the animated series.
Many stories to be told about young Skywalker. Show him learning new abilities we must see.
Master Yoda, if you’re reading this do you really know who truly saved Grogu from the Coruscant Jedi Temple.

I never thought of "Force Choke" or "Force Crush" or whatever to be specific powers tied to a user's good/evil alignment so much as them simply being Force-induced telekinesis directly employed as a weapon, and adherents of the Dark Side just like to use it a lot more because it's an easy and very psychologically effective way to threaten or harm enemies.

i absolutely love return of the jedi era luke, i have since i first saw it. his darkness as so moving, i love how aware he is of it.
Ty for bringing this up. I don't like Luke using a dark side force. However, harnessing many sides of the force with balance has been Luke's advantage.
Moff Gideon's face when he saw the x wing gave away his fear. Only one person would both be flying an x wing and be able to cause such fear in Gideon. So I knew it was Luke before the x wing landed. The fact that he didn't answer the hail reinforced the fact.
