Thank you for the video! I went all chin-hands listening, love listening to thoughtful analysis of Chara (my favorite UTDR character) and TS!Underswap Chara (my favorite take on them in any fangame/most fanworks I've seen). You picked up on a bunch of cool details and presented some cool theories! What I really love about TSUS Chara is how they allowed to be a KID first and foremost, instead of A) a stabby stabby demon who thinks about literally nothing other than killing, B) overfocusing on making them a bad/flawed person, or C) making them a standoffish tsundere. Like... c'mon. Does ANY of that sound like someone Asriel would enjoy hanging out with and laughing with?? They have to have A Personality for all that. :P Team Switched did SUCH a good job on capturing NarraChara's voice (which I 100% believe for Undertale, it fits too well and it not being true creates some really weird unanswered question about odd things in the narration) and also for teasing out interesting, colorful ways to illustrate their personality and make them a really vibrant, goofy lil protagonist! I love the sketchbook and their drawing habits in the Sans fight and Koffin K's walls, golden flowers having such meaning to them as a place of peace, them being such a little dramatic troll, like all of it is so dang good!! We eatin' so good with this one! As a Chara fan, I couldn't be happier with the work they've done, it really feels like the fangame I've been waiting for for years! :))
12:30 My headcannon for crossbones is that’s it Semi cope. Chara is coping about the fact they didn’t kill Crossbones the person but rather Crossbones the character. They marked them as eradicated as they clearly knew it was a cardboard cutout(when you check on it Chara comments about it.) but Sans probably won’t show their face as crossbones anymore after the failure to stop them.
Chara is my favorite UNDERTALE character. Playing through TS US myself was very enjoyable, seeing how well they handled characterizing them. I'm glad you share that same appreciation.
I still don't believe the one changing Chara's dialogue is the player as there is just certain things that don't make sense to me. If it is us, the player, changing the dialogue then wouldn't we be aware that we are the ones doing it? Many players (including myself) are going to go through the whole game wondering what the entity changing the dialogue is and, if it is revealed to be the player, it would be kind of strange. I get the whole 'curiosity' thing but, what about the players who are curious about what happens if you stay with Asgore, or if you want to say, "I don't know" to Sans' question? It would kind of be immersion breaking and take away that sense of choice that players love in Undertale fangames if it was revealed that you were the one changing the dialogue. Not to mention how none of the changed text is in first-person when it would be better if it was. I don't hate this theory; I just think it would make much more sense for it to be Frisk so that they have at least some role in the story. Plus, I think the player being in control of Chara's actions, not their words, is enough control to still have the player be relevant. Sorry about the rant, just wanted to share why I don't think it's the player doing this.
I’ll go through this point by point to say why I think it’s the player influencing Chara. So for the first point, a lot of players may be ‘unaware’ because the game doesn’t want to explicitly confirm who it is, likely for mysteries sake. The main reason I like Player theory though is because the player themselves has to choose the overwritten dialogue, and this action is done with the red heart (something that in basically all of Undertale and Deltarune is directly linked to the player). If it was Frisk then I don’t see why these dialogue options exist at all, Chara would just something out of line independent of the Player choosing an option. As for the second point, if someone wanted to stay in Asgore’s home or have a more uncertain response to Sans, the left dialogue option exists for a reason. The last thing here is about wanting to give Frisk a role in the story; Firstly, I think it’s kind of weird to want Frisk influencing Chara’s solely to have a role in the story is kind of weird narratively. Secondly, they will very likely have a role in the story that is dependent from being the entity, since they’ll likely either be the main Temmie or Flowey. I Hope this comment helps!
@@kamera1890 I know this comment is 4 months old, but I just want to add something. Besides the Ruthless route's "My... SOUL?" line, there is another part where Chara questions their soul being theirs. Iirc, during compassion/neutral route, you can read a book in the Starstruck village's library about the nature of souls, and how they can persist after the body's death; after reading it Chara even puts a question mark near the heart in the journal. What I'm implying is that the soul could've actually belonged to Frisk before, and it didn't spawn out of nowhere just because we started playing. Look at it this way: if Chara is the narrator, then Frisk is the one offering choices (and changing Chara's for their own in this case), and we're the ones' who choose. Combine this with Frisk actually having their own will even in UT (them wanting to leave Toriel, just like with TS!US Asgore), and I think them being the Entity makes a lot of sense. A little bit unrelated, but... About the conflict on the bridge between "the Entity" and Chara. I'm pretty sure it was "the Entity" who shouted at Chara because they were hesitant to say what "it" wants, and from the others' perspective it was Chara who shouted at Papyrus. It must've hurt them though, being reminded that they may not be in control. Oh, but I really loved your TS!US Chara analysis! You did a great job nailing down their personality in-depth. And I know that the Entity's identity is not the point of your video, but it certainly seems like a good topic for a discussion (since I'm clearly not the only one debating with you about it...). So, sorry if I came off rude or anything, just wanted to insert my two cents!
@@_red_crewmate for the first paragraph, I think that Chara having Frisk’s soul from a lore-perspective is super wack, especially if their soul broke like Undertale Chara’s likely did. I think it’s easier to understand (and less convoluted) if when Chara is referring to the general loss of control they feel with the Entity’s presence, and questioning their own agency. The entity *could* be Frisk with their determination to proceed, but it could also be the Player’s desire to proceed and see the rest of the game’s narrative. For the second point, I used to believe the “SHUT UP” was from the Entity as well, but based on the context it seems like it’s Chara. The fact it shows up in red text specifically, which is highly associated with Chara, seems damning on its own, but the context makes this more clear. Like during that scene when you keep pressing on with the Entity’s dialogue you can see Chara’s sprite change as they get more frustrated, and when they do say shut up their sprite once again changes. It just seems to be Chara. Also no worries on the entity discussion, hehe.
You did amazing at this analysis! This has so much information that could be easily dismissed. I have to wonder if you had *any* kind of help with the analysis...? If it was, this person is truly just the most majestic human there is.
8:06 i think i find it obvious that it's Frisk, maybe not all of our actions but were definetly not the ones overwriting Chara's options, remind you that it was Frisk choice to leave the Ruins in the original undertale. While Chara just wants to stay. Maybe it's both Frisk and the Player, but Chara is mostly bothered by Frisk as were just moving Chara forward. Ah and, it's pretty much easy to say that the order of the fallen children was swapped, Justice was the one before Frisk in the original, and TS!Underswap we find their gun and cowboy hat in Ruined Home. So it's easy to tell they were the second after the first one. Who was the before Justice? Frisk.
I can't deny the idea although I haven't seen much backing to it. For the argument of it being Frisk's choice to leave the ruins, I mean I guess? But also, so did all of the other fallen humans. So if we use this argument then the patience soul is equally as likely to be influencing Chara's actions as Frisk is. As for the second part of this comment, that Frisk is the first fallen human... I agree that they are the first, that is strongly implied; This doesn't have much correlation with if they're influencing Chara's actions though or even have a similar role to them as Chara did in Undertale because their origins are basically unknown to us at this point. There's no hard proof for anything but I just think it makes the most sense to be the player, all of the dialogue options that can be overwritten currently are aligned with what the player would say. The compassion route choices always focus on the entity's desire to move forward, like how any player playing a video game would. The ruthless route's overwritten dialogue has focus on the entity's need to see what happens, which again, is in line with how most players play these darker routes in the first place.
@@kamera1890 i mean, there's the whole "re-awaken by your determination thingy" so who knows if Frisk is taking the role of the original Chara in a different way in this au, just because the other fallen human wanted to leave it doesnt necessarely mean they're spooky ghosts that are following Chara. -tho i would definetly love that one day when the full game comes out there will be a TS!Underswap Cyan-
@@kamera1890 I get that this is a debate you're not very invested in, but I would to add that the Talk act in the Asriel boss with Toriel basically states that Frisk themselves wanted to leave: "You tell the Lost Soul [Toriel] that you have to go if you're going to free everyone." And then the dialogue options in the Ruins very strongly suggest that Frisk really doesn't want to stay. Frisk is completely uninterested in the toys in the room ("Look at all these cool toys! They don't interest you at all.") and every option with Toriel that doesn't ask how to leave are disinterested one word answers ("Yeah", "Sure", "Nothing") while the options to leave are more obviously fleshed out ("When can I go home?" "How to exit the RUINS"). Along with their dislike of soda, this is one of the very few places where Frisk actually makes their preferences known.

Sometimes one of us purposefully does that just for the sake of it lmao
Ngl, TS!Underswap's Genocide ending might become way sadder than Undertale's. Think about it: Chara is "swayed", I'd say since they're a kid and likely naive, into killing an entire town, begins to feel good about it as FOR ONCE she feels in control and "strong", only to begin to feel bad about her actions (following the theory of the actions like leaving Larry and Harry are signs of Chara wanting to stop), try to stop, but somehow, still thinking she's in control, still attacks them. Not only that, but after their fight with Sans, they desperately try to yell for help but are forced by an entity (Which I strongly believe to be Frisk in some way) not to do so, making her so frustrated she begins yelling at others. I don't even want to imagine how much more they'll have to go through in the rest of their journey.
I like how Frisk's influence is portrayed here. Chara would be happy to stay with Asgore or with the skeletons, but Frisk's determination to leave is forcing them to keep going. Chara was swapped with Frisk. In Undertale Chara's influence is limited to the narrating. In Underswap that influence is based on the determination to leace the underground that defines Frisk.
You can also start the evacuation neutral run by doing pacifist/neutral in ruined home and going geno mode during starlight isles, so how does this variation of the run fit with the "change" prevalent theme?
Admittedly, it doesn’t fit into the theme the same way the aborted version of evacuation does. The evacuation route is pretty open-ended though in triggering it so I just focused on discussing the most popular (and probably intended) way of activating it.
It’s definitely left pretty vague currently, but I don’t think it’s Frisk. All of the current overwritten dialogues are about either progression or “needing to see” what happens, and these line up extremely well with the player.
I'm a bit scared what Frisk is going to be like in the ruthless route if they show up at the ending considering Geno-Frisk seems to have a sadistic and mocking personality unlike Geno-Chara's power-hungry/completionist yet simple nature.
If Frisk ends up having a somewhat similar speech at the end, then I think it will focus on something more akin to Flowey’s sense of completionism. Wanting to see every bit of content the world has to offer, although rather than just equating them to “Lines of dialogue” and “Sets of numbers” Frisk I feel would focus more on the Characters emotions, wanting to scrap together all sense of emotion, whether it be positive or negative, out of the world. Lazynick made a hypothetical of Frisk having a speech after a second genocide run that I think excellently captures this idea for Frisk: x.com/lazynick5/status/1771921352083046647?s=46&t=UuHS46TxlUDiwZjd4VVnMg

Chara also demonstrated sadism in the genocide narrations. Sadism on the path of genocide is clearly demonstrated by Chara, not Frisk. After all, you see "It's me, Chara" in front of the mirror, not "It's you"
6:46 Actually, I have a theory about this. I think Frisk is behind it. Think about it: the Player never could overwrite the options, only choose one. However, here we see someone REWRITE them. Rewrite them to choices FRISK would do in the original UNDERTALE. That most likely means Frisk wants to get out of the Underground for whatever reason, but they are a lot more of a passive character, only activating when needed, but still hoarding control.

@@Alt_DiegoBrando How do we change options without doing anything? We choose from the options that have been provided to us, we do not provide options.
Team Switched did SUCH a good job on capturing NarraChara's voice (which I 100% believe for Undertale, it fits too well and it not being true creates some really weird unanswered question about odd things in the narration) and also for teasing out interesting, colorful ways to illustrate their personality and make them a really vibrant, goofy lil protagonist!
I agree!
Great video! Really hope to see more
12:30 My headcannon for crossbones is that’s it Semi cope.

Thank you Mr UA-camr, your content is also great ❤
I still don't believe the one changing Chara's dialogue is the player as there is just certain things that don't make sense to me.
They truly are the most majestic people ❤️
This is a great video and it gets me excited for the full game in years to come.
This is a great video I loved it :)
Glad you enjoyed it!
-tho i would definetly love that one day when the full game comes out there will be a TS!Underswap Cyan-
@@kamera1890 I get that this is a debate you're not very invested in, but I would to add that the Talk act in the Asriel boss with Toriel basically states that Frisk themselves wanted to leave: "You tell the Lost Soul [Toriel] that you have to go if you're going to free everyone."
And then the dialogue options in the Ruins very strongly suggest that Frisk really doesn't want to stay.

@@devaraanimationI didn't see anyone using that weapon in the mod so idk
Also, me and Kamera are talking about TS!Underswap's Toy Gun, not the other guns. "Toy Gun VS Dented Pan" is something we've been arguing about not long since we've met each other, and it's like an inside joke for us to start arguing about it whenever either weapon is brought up. Sometimes one of us purposefully does that just for the sake of it lmao
OMG it is kamera.
Unless this is the kamera that didn't do speedrunning.
Also cool video.
Yea, it’s the same me :)
The fact that Chara uses the Act option on Larry is more cruel than the Fight option imo
Underated
You deserve way more subs
Man you're way too underrate!
The evacuation route is pretty open-ended though in triggering it so I just focused on discussing the most popular (and probably intended) way of activating it.
lol chara would be changing for the worse
I hope when they write more they keep this sort of variation in mind. Cuz either Chara is getting better or worse.
8:04 I think is Frisk
It’s definitely left pretty vague currently, but I don’t think it’s Frisk. All of the current overwritten dialogues are about either progression or “needing to see” what happens, and these line up extremely well with the player.
I think I know what it is. It’s frisk more specifically what frisk represents
@@Averagebasementman I’ve had a ton of comments suggest this too, it’s possible although not really the point of the video
Lazynick made a hypothetical of Frisk having a speech after a second genocide run that I think excellently captures this idea for Frisk:
x.com/lazynick5/status/1771921352083046647?s=46&t=UuHS46TxlUDiwZjd4VVnMg
@@kamera1890 I agree, though I find the idea of something with that much power just wanting to make people suffer for fun and not any greater reason or curiosity way more fucked up.

TS Underswap is the chara before UT cannon
6:46
Actually, I have a theory about this.
Just curious, but why do you call Mettacrit "Mettalot"?
There's no official patch for this yet but the name has been changed by Team Switched, and this should be in the 2.0.6 patch of the game when that is released.
