I guess I'm one of those people who are in between. My reaction was this: "Nice! The game's getting an expansion and being ported to the Switch! Definitely going to pick this up day 1!"
It's weird how when this game first launched on switch. The only new things about it were the 5 new characters (6 if you count gold mario.) and an improved battle mode. Now we have an additional 8 new characters and a whole other games worth of courses to race on.
...Especially since it was possible to unlock a feature whereby you could place him in any kart and thus he could take on any of the light, medium, and heavy-weight traits.
It was pretty good throughout for the most part, coming from somebody who studies translation and speaks some Japanese. But there was one point where the translator was struggling, with the Grasshopper dude (who was saying some weird stuff pretty quickly tbf) I felt for him. It's freakin' tough! Especially with Japanese where so little translates directly.
Funny enough, I actually picked up this game after the announcement of the Booster Course Pass Was this a clever marketing tactic and am I happy to support it? Yes. Yes I am.

I've been a proud owner of this game for over half a decade. This is one of the most angelic and prolific games I have ever touched in my life. This experience has changed my life for the better and I have made some of the greatest friends I have ever met in my life through this game. From the triumphant music to racing in the streets of Tokyo, this game nails every aspect and gift that humanity has to offer. Thank you, Nintendo.
Thats like saying you can just play smash against a cpu or your friends. We are aware of that. What he is saying is that a service which is free RIGHT NOW as i type is going to be a paid service soon. Just because I theoretically can just not use it a big portion of the game's entertainment relies on it and its an obvious cash grab.
As a person who has purchased all the dlc for MK8 I feel like this is a slap in the face. MK8 for the Wii U would have been better off without the DLC if Nintendo was planning on making a Deluxe version for the switch. Holding off the DLC (16 new courses to race on [4 new cups], new characters, karts, etc.) and combining it with everything in this trailer would have been a much better idea in my opinion and would give people who already have the Wii U version more of an incentive to pick it up. I honestly can't see myself buying this game again.
We don't know if owners of Mario Kart 8 will be able to upscale with a discount. We'll know for sure in a Mario Kart 8 Deluxe direct. Otherwise, I can't see myself getting it either, even though I'm a BIG Mario Kart fan. 8 was nothing compared to Wii anyhow. I can do without it.

Only problem is they changed the battle mode back to the much better OG battle mode in this version, where the tracks were like big arenas. Hopefully they have a discount for Wii U owners, or an update or DLC for Wii U to add this mode, or else I feel really screwed over. It's just not worth the value of another full purchase for Wii U owners of MK8 because everything else is near identical (except some added characters which mean next to nothing).

Has anyone noticed that since Mario kart DS, 3 years would pass before Nintendo would release the next Mario kart. Mario kart DS (2005), Mario kart wii (2008), Mario kart 7 (2011), Mario kart 8 (2014), Mario kart 8 deluxe (2017).
Mario Kart Super Circuit (2001), Mario Kart Double Dash (2003), and Mario Kart DS (2005) were all 2 years apart prior to that span. Weird history lesson bruh.
Don't get me wrong, this game looks amazing, and I love Mario Kart in general, but why would I spend money to get the Switch and his game just to play a few extra battle mode courses/modes, a few new characters, possibly a few new items and mechanics, and the portablitlity of the thing, when I've already got Mario Kart 8 on the Wii U with all the DLC. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe should not be a brand new game! If it is, give the owners of the Wii U the stuff on the Switch as new DLC! If people want to play Mario Kart 8 on the Switch, and want to utilize the portability, go ahead. But don't punish us Wii U users by having to overpay for (basically) just a bit more content. Edit: Heck, if we already own Mario Kart 8 on the Wii U, and we want it on the Switch, don't make us pay the full price for mostly the same content Nintendo!

From Splatoon characters to the 'real' battle mode, from new kart parts to all DLC content at start, from an epic exclusive DLC to extensive accessory support, from new exclusive updates to a full HD experience, and from the crazy online item costumizations to even more new characters including many returning favorites of the past games, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is no ordinary Wii U port.
Mario Kart Double Dash will forever be the best Mario Kart game. Each character has their own specific special powerup, and there aren't any stupid coins that you collect from blocks. Also: the battle mode wasn't on race tracks, there were specific map designs for the battle... Also blueshells were so much more common, making the game so much more random and fun. Mario Kart 8 still holds up.. I'm just sayin

Mainly because several people missed out on Mario Kart 8 for the Wii U because it(the console) sold horribly. On top of that, Mario Kart 8 was a very solid game that could've used some much needed improvements (Better battle mode, stronger item distribution, and of course the inclusion of some fan favorites who were randomly axed for no real reason) that would make it even better. So it'd make sense, instead of just starting over- to simply improve an already great game AND introduce it to a crowd that never got to play it. From a business stand point it was smart.

It's weird how when this game first launched on switch. The only new things about it were the 5 new characters (6 if you count gold mario.) and an improved battle mode. Now we have an additional 8 new characters and a whole other games worth of courses to race on.
Still no Diddy Kong and Captain Falcon...

It was pretty good throughout for the most part, coming from somebody who studies translation and speaks some Japanese. But there was one point where the translator was struggling, with the Grasshopper dude (who was saying some weird stuff pretty quickly tbf) I felt for him. It's freakin' tough! Especially with Japanese where so little translates directly.

This experience has changed my life for the better and I have made some of the greatest friends I have ever met in my life through this game. Thats like saying you can just play smash against a cpu or your friends. We are aware of that. What he is saying is that a service which is free RIGHT NOW as i type is going to be a paid service soon. Just because I theoretically can just not use it a big portion of the game's entertainment relies on it and its an obvious cash grab.
It isn't per game though. It's just a subscription with a lot of good bonuses and such.
Finally! The thing that was missing in Mario Kart 8 was dedicated battle levels.
...and race times! It's always fun to see how close you were to your competitors!

Started as a port, ended as a masterpiece.
As a person who has purchased all the dlc for MK8 I feel like this is a slap in the face. MK8 for the Wii U would have been better off without the DLC if Nintendo was planning on making a Deluxe version for the switch.
Holding off the DLC (16 new courses to race on [4 new cups], new characters, karts, etc.) and combining it with everything in this trailer would have been a much better idea in my opinion and would give people who already have the Wii U version more of an incentive to pick it up. I honestly can't see myself buying this game again.

We don't know if owners of Mario Kart 8 will be able to upscale with a discount. We'll know for sure in a Mario Kart 8 Deluxe direct. Otherwise, I can't see myself getting it either, even though I'm a BIG Mario Kart fan. 8 was nothing compared to Wii anyhow. I can do without it.

Only problem is they changed the battle mode back to the much better OG battle mode in this version, where the tracks were like big arenas. Hopefully they have a discount for Wii U owners, or an update or DLC for Wii U to add this mode, or else I feel really screwed over. It's just not worth the value of another full purchase for Wii U owners of MK8 because everything else is near identical (except some added characters which mean next to nothing).

Don't get me wrong, this game looks amazing, and I love Mario Kart in general, but why would I spend money to get the Switch and his game just to play a few extra battle mode courses/modes, a few new characters, possibly a few new items and mechanics, and the portablitlity of the thing, when I've already got Mario Kart 8 on the Wii U with all the DLC. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe should not be a brand new game! If it is, give the owners of the Wii U the stuff on the Switch as new DLC! If people want to play Mario Kart 8 on the Switch, and want to utilize the portability, go ahead. But don't punish us Wii U users by having to overpay for (basically) just a bit more content.
Edit: Heck, if we already own Mario Kart 8 on the Wii U, and we want it on the Switch, don't make us pay the full price for mostly the same content Nintendo!

Mario Kart Double Dash will forever be the best Mario Kart game. Each character has their own specific special powerup, and there aren't any stupid coins that you collect from blocks. Also: the battle mode wasn't on race tracks, there were specific map designs for the battle... Also blueshells were so much more common, making the game so much more random and fun. Mario Kart 8 still holds up.. I'm just sayin

Mainly because several people missed out on Mario Kart 8 for the Wii U because it(the console) sold horribly. On top of that, Mario Kart 8 was a very solid game that could've used some much needed improvements (Better battle mode, stronger item distribution, and of course the inclusion of some fan favorites who were randomly axed for no real reason) that would make it even better. So it'd make sense, instead of just starting over- to simply improve an already great game AND introduce it to a crowd that never got to play it. From a business stand point it was smart.
Because the lack of backwards compatibility, unfortunately they are doing that because they want to "Switch" from discs to cartridges
