I bought Mario Kart 8 for the WII U on launch day. I have been playing it for nearly 10 YEARS. I was 9. Now I am almost 19. From Elementary School to a Freshmen in College. This is ridiculous.

Yeah, that was great. I think my favorite things are the (basically) 'merry go round' kart and the fact that the koopalings are going to be playable. I love Ludwig and Wendy!

This. This is it, folks.
I'm an old guy, a guy that had to read magazines to get any news from E3 about companies releasing new stuff. Now E3 became this huge popcorn Hollywood thing and... I think I like Nintendo Directs better. Don't get me wrong, I still like watching some E3 stuff online, but Nintendo made the best choice - sticking with videos created by them, on their YT channel, to be viewed by us. No journalists between us, no reading between the lines - we see everything at the same moment as any gaming news site does. And I LOVE it!

This may very well be the best Wii U game so far! I'm super excited, and it seems like they've really listened to the fans and tried their very best to balance items, bikes versus karts, etc. while adding great new features and amazing online play, as well as music. The Mario Kart TV implementation with UA-cam also has me really excited! This game is going to be great!

Seven years later, this still puts a big smile on my face. When Mario Kart 9 gets announced in five years, they should do something like this again.
Its probably gonna be called mario kart x. X in roman numerals is 10, so it probably confirms tour being a mainline mario kart game and the 9th game.

That whole Mario Kart announcer segment was hilarious...
If you guys are wondering why they skipped the clip they they had to show Mario Kart: Super Circuit, it's not their fault, it's the guy who was watching TV. He switched through a lot of channels and eventually missed it.
That and the fact that he only covered games that actually introduced something new. Super Circuit didn't really introduce anything new.

It was also the first Mario Kart game to have a grand prix ranking system, the first to be able to trade ghost data for time trials, the first game to have a Lightning cup, and finally Mario Kart Super Circuit was the first Mario Kart to have retro tracks("being every Super Mario Kart Track.") way before Mario Kart DS had the idea for the retro cups.

I didn't notice before, but I notice that the Monster Tires actually get a little muddy in the desert course. I love the little details in this game.

Mario Kart 8= GAME OF THE YEAR!
I absolutely loved the original Mario Kart on SNES and Mario Kart 64, god only knows how many hours I sank into those games. But none of the MKs after that really did much for me. I dutifully bought them and played them as much as I could. MK Wii and MK7, I literally only played them for an hour to two each the day they came out. So when MK8 was announced, I didn't care. I didn't look at any previews or anything, I just ignored it. It was going to be the first MK I skipped. Then this Direct vid came out and ended up in my feed. Something made me watch it. And that was when I knew MK8 was probably going to be my favorite MK since 1997. And it was. I've come back and re-watched this Direct about once a year ever since. It's like comfort food to me.

Nintendo, I'm going to say this right now, make a Super Smash Bros Kart game. Every character has some form of transportation, there's thousands of item choices, hundreds of track choices, and you can easily use just about any character. Trust me, this would sell.
It's been 7 yrs and i've been recommended this masterpiece. I'll never forget MK8

Baby Rosalina and Pink Gold Peach?! Baby Rosalina you can probably get away with, but Metal Mario and Pink Gold Peach are just wasted character slots. There better be DLC for characters and courses because I think the fans would welcome it at this point.

***** If you use a Mushroom at the split second the Spiny Shell attacks you, you can escape.
João Vítor Sodré On Wii it was easy but on 3DS it became 10x harder.
My favorite memory is in the 3ds version when I got a mushroom 1/2 a second before the blue shell hit and used it immediately and dodged. also if you are in a cannon the blue shell misses guaranteed every time. on some tracks it is better if you know a blue shell is coming to slow down to guarantee you are in the cannon at the right time

You could evade blueshells with a mushroom though before,.

You forgot to talk about "Mario Kart: Super Circuit" in "Mario Kart Through the Ages" !
+MariusBLGQ Maybe they don't want to add that in there since INTELLIGENT SYSTEMS made that game and not the same creators who made the other 6 including MK8, explains why they never gave enough love to INTELLIGENT SYSTEMS over the years by not including many of their tracks they made in DS Wii or 7 except the bare minimum and also explains why GBA Cheeseland and Ribbon Road have no vision/theme whatsoever of INTELIIGENT SYSTEMS ideas they had for those 2 tracks being themed in Space on the moon for Cheese land, and Ribbon road being in any sort of a celebration/party room where the guests presents are surrounded throughout the track plus all 3 retro tracks of SS in MK8 are completely missing any Paper Mario reference in the tracks which is another thing INTELLIGENT SYSTEMS had in Super Circuit.
I can still vividly remember playing the first Mario Kart on release in '92.
The graphics blew me away and it was the first racing game I actually liked.
