I love the smash 64 roster so much, seeing the og cast missing will be kinda heartbreaking, if they can’t bring everyone back, at least keep the 12 we know and grew with.
One thing I really want more than anything in the next Smash game is more interaction between the characters. For a crossover game, Smash doesn't really take advantage of that imo, since the characters literally do nothing but fight each other, albeit with some exceptions. I'm not expecting 50+ characters to all have unique dialogues with each other, but more Palutena's guidance/Snake's codec type of fanservice would be very much appreciated. Or, if the next Smash game ends up being a port (even though you mentioned it being unlikely), how about adding some linear story and dialogue in World of Light? Or even maybe CGI cutscenes, since they won't be making that many new reveal trailers? I just really wish the interaction between characters are more focused on next time around.
You are right. I love all the weird team ups in subspace emissary. Mario and Pit, Link and Yoshi, Olimar and Captain Falcon, Meta Knight and Marth. Those interactions were the best. i think the best (not realistic) route would be basically -runs on an entirely new engine -a story mode -every character from ultimate but the move sets are completely redone -dlc that spans way longer, like 4 passes this is an outcome the most fans would be happy with, and i think it can be done if they give smash a really huge budget and have a ton of people work on it

I don’t understand how as soon as Smash Ultimate came out, people started shitting on Smash 4 like it was worse than Brawl, like it definitely was not underwhelming. I think people just fell out of love with it with Bayo and Cloud dominating competitive near the end of its life, and when Ultimate came out, everyone just forgot everything they liked about Smash 4. I don't see whats bad with a port, ultimate is already so good so seeing it again with a few more characters, minor mechanical changes, good online and maybe a new game mode sounds perfect. As for the reboot thing, cutting so many especially first parties od going to be super controversial. I expect around 70 characters next game, 60 minimum. But 15 third party seems questionable, that's almost a fourth of the roster! Problem is even in a smaller roster veterans likely won't change much, as the devs seem to have a clear desire to keep characters mostly the same and "accessable" across games. Plus veterans would still be prioritized so not that many newcomers are going to be likely still I think the best direction for smash is to release a game with 50 or so characters, then continually update it and add more over the course of several years. Basically a live service game

I don't know if a new Smash would outdo SSB Ultimate. Same to be said that I don't think the next Mario Kart could outdo MK8 Deluxe. Those 2 games are going to be hard to be over achieved for what Smash Ultimate and MK 8 Deluxe have done for those franchises.
Nintendo is full of surprises, and "Switch 2" is said to be on par with Xbox One & PlayStation 4 in terms of power. With the right development team & adequate development time, I think they can pull off something extraordinary for their two top-sellers.
the problem with the meter is that there are a ton of characters who either a.dont have transformations, or b. have it in their final smash.because characters like game and watch or meta knight dont really have transformations.

I don't understand the Smash 4 hate, that game introduced the world to handheld smash which was awesome for the time. What was also really cool, and a rarely used feature, was you could actually sync your 3ds to the wii u and use it as a controller.
I know that it is difficult to make a story mode that involves all the characters, but if not, something I would love for them to do is put interactions between the characters before entering the fight, something similar to what the Mortal Kombat characters do, Imagine Mario and Sonic making jokes or insults to each other before entering into combat, and in the end depending on who wins, dialogues similar to those in Street Fighter are shown when one character beats another. For me that would make the unbeatable better.
I honestly don't see that many 3rd party charachters going if their's a new smash game. I used to think Cloud would be gone but then we got two square enix charachters as dlc one of which they would've had to jump through insane hoops to get. Plus almost all of the final fantasy games are on switch now ontop of a remake of Super Mario rpg coming, with all this in mind I think Square and Atlus are the most guaranteed along with Sega. The one that might be the biggest problem is Konami because their Konami.
For me a Smash reboot will feel complete if they add in Cloud, Sephiroth, Sora, Sonic, Shadow and Dr. Eggman as among the few 3rd party additions and I’ll be happy, so it’s good hearing what you said about Square and Sega. Although with that being said, I think it’d be worth trying to at least bring back Steve if they wanted to bring back a Microsoft character between Banjo & Kazooie and Steve, Steve makes the most sense to bring back due to his popularity. Bonus points if they make a new and improved Subspace Emissary based story with all 50 or 60 characters included, realistically 50.

In my personal opinion, Nintendo could easily justify a SSB Ultimate Deluxe with more DLC and a few new features, or something like slightly upgraded graphics for the next-generation hardware.

Smash 4 is the improved game after brawl that did not have tripping and had custom moves to customise your characters and make them play slightly different. It had free and not awfull online play and i think the classic mode was fun AF and had so much fun on smash tour even though the rest of the community seemed to hate it. It was with smash tour me and my friends had the most fun. Its also the smash game with the largest thropy collection.

Any other characters could be added as DLC, but those are what I think would be most satisfying to the most people.

I really can’t understand anyone thinking that anything BUT porting Ultimate is the best idea. People are going to be upset if characters get cut, we’ve already seen that, and assuming porting Ultimate is significantly easier than making a new game, just adding more content to that game will make the most people happy. Heck, there’s nothing saying they can’t overhaul character movesets in an Ultimate port.
I love how people still assume a proper Subspace follow up after Sakurai stated it won't happen again, now that character trailers are a thing. and the fact WoL was the result of Subspace being brought back.... What people should be asking for is a Smash Run sequel with more courses and online co-op.

I’d personally love a Rivals of Aether-style custom colour maker. Just the basics, Mario, for example, would have you be able to edit stuff like his hat, shirt, overalls, gloves, and shoes. Just the colour, not exactly expecting much beyond that, but it would help rectify any issues anyone has with a character’s costumes. They can just do it themselves
I wonder how people would feel about re-cloning some characters in order to have everybody be there again. I know people hate echo fighters less than they used to hate clones, but would we rather have Luigi, Dr. Mario, Falco, Wolf, Roy, Lucas, Young Link, Toon Link, and Pichu be clones than not have them at all?
Id be down if they made all the trophy assists chatacters and made the main cast trophies. It woild be sad to see everyone leave but would be neat as a party game.
Best thing to do is cut down and streamline. We don't need 100+ characters, we need 30-40 balanced ones. Revamp some older characters, give us a couple new ones, make the roster feel diverse with unique playstyles.
Characters I want for the next Smash game: Waluigi, Rayman, Rivet(from Ratchet & Clank), Krystal, Master Chief, Crash Bandicoot, Spyro, Tomba!, Lara Croft, Aloy, Atreus(from God of War), Carmelita Fox, Ryu Hayabusa, Bomberman, and Geno! I didn't want to add characters that have already appeared in Playstation All-Star Battle Royale because that would be too redundant. So I chose characters that haven't been in a crossover fighting game instead.
As time goes on, I'm increasingly warming up to the idea of rebooting Smash with a downsized roster and new movesets for a lot of returning characters. I expect that the likes of Mario, Luigi, Peach, Bowser, Yoshi, Wario, Donkey Kong, Link, Zelda, Ganondorf, Samus, Kirby, King Dedede, Fox, Pikachu, Ness, Captain Falcon, Marth, Olimar, Isabelle, Inkling, and Sonic will all return. Hopefully they'll keep Diddy Kong, Ridley, and King K. Rool too! I want Banjo & Kazooie back, but idk how likely that is.

What about eevee and the eeveelutions? There are so many wild cards like incineroar that are just... there and I feel like the joint mascot of pokemon should be a playable character instead of a tackle item and spirit. And no I'm not saying that each eeveelution should be a separate character; if anything it should be 1 character that could have 1 or 2 moves per eeveelution, with them u turning every attack. But that'll be extremely unlikely.

I swear to god if smash adds sans as an actual character I’m gonna fucking explode out of joy ( or just any Undertale character in general I don’t care if it’s froggit that my new main ), also all these skins Mario and Luigi have sometimes use they’re power ups so I had an idea for a mechanic that they could have, so basically they will have a move where they pull out a question block and you can jump up to hit or you could also use it as a platform and it stays until you hit where it will disappear shortly after being hit, so basically you probably figured it out by now when Mario or Luigi and heck even princess peach hits it the block spews out a power up as usual and when they touch this it gives them said power up and it could be anything range from the mushroom making you bigger to like the hammer suit or something it could be any power up from the series, anyways that’s an idea I had for Mario and Luigi to make things a little more interesting but for this to work fully I guess you would have to remove the fireball from they’re moveset but do not worry because we can always have a substitute, Mario and Luigi’s hammer from paper Mario I think, also the question block could have a super rare chance to give the super hammer from Mario maker which kinda revamps the moveset and let’s Mario place breakable blocks like Steve except they don’t break over time, also the you can lose the power up after you take enough damage or you choose another one from the ? Block, anyway I just thought that would be a super sick rework for Mario and Luigi ( note: I just realized that the fireball move could have just been replaced with the ? Block lol but I was thinking of that as like a down special so eh ) I would still love a smash game with new characters ( especially Undertale ) ok bye
personally, i prefer the idea of a reboot. trim the fat of the roster. give the already existing fighters revised, more unique movesets. if there's one gripe i have with smash, it's the abundance of clones and fighters with bland movesets. with the sheer amount of fighters in ultimate's roster, they can't all be winners. but if you peel away some of the unnecessary characters, there could be a much bigger focus on moveset diversity. quality over quantity, as you said. 3rd party fighters should still be present, though. i can't imagine a modern smash game without 3rd party fighters.
Personally, I'd have Smash 6 act as the Resident Evil 4 of the series. Completely shake up the franchise by overhauling of the gameplay style. In other words, 3D Smash. Imagine an arena styled Smash, along the likes of the Naruto Storm games. As for the roster, it'd start small of course, let's say 6 characters from 6 of Nintendo's most well known franchises, giving a nice number of 36 characters to start with. But over the years (thinking long term like 5 - 10 years) more and more characters and content would be added. As for how to go about adding characters, I'd have it go in waves much like Ultimate's Fighter Pass, but series focused waves. So say the base game starts with the afformentioned 36 Nintendo characters. Then with Wave 1 focused exclusively on the Sonic series for example, with 6 Sonic fighters and some stages based from the series. Then Wave 2 let's say DMC focused, Wave 3 Ratchet & Clank focused, etc. (obviously this isn't limited to just 3rd party characters) For the story, it would pretty much go the Fortnite/Genshin route in which it's an ever expanding story with each set of characters added, building up to a great narrative. Voice acting to of course.

Considering that the next Nintendo console is reportedly going to be backwards compatible, I don't really see why Nintendo would want to reboot when they already have Ultimate and could just keep selling Fighter Passes.
Why keep selling Fighter Passes to a Switch game after the next Nintendo console comes out? Ultimate's Fighter Passes are done. And besides, the Wii and Wii U were backwards compatible and they still got Smash games.

@@Chronobus Being backwards compatible doesn't mean Nintendo would keep supporting the previous console. Shortly after the Wii U was released, Nintendo had discontinued the Nintendo Wifi Connection which ended online play for Wii and DS games despite the Wii U being backwards compatible with the Wii and the handheld counterpart the 3DS was backwards compatible with the DS. You can't play Wii or DS games online anymore, even when you play them on your Wii U or 3DS. Nintendo changes its online service with every console. The Wii and DS had Nintendo Wifi Connection. The Wii U and 3DS had the Nintendo Network. And the Switch had Nintendo Switch Online. When Nintendo releases it's next console, it will no doubt be on a new online service and Nintendo Switch Online would eventually go offline. They can't update the Switch games when the Nintendo Switch Online service goes offline. So, there would be no more updates for Smash Ultimate unless they make a Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Deluxe for the new console, which would make your original Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Switch cartridge worthless because all the updates would be going to the Deluxe version while the Switch game remains at the Sora update. It would be better to make a new Smash game. As much as I would like the next Smash game to be bigger than Ultimate and be the LEGO Star Wars: The Complete Saga of all the Smash games with every character, stage, mode, song, trophy, sticker and spirit from the entire series, some things would have to be cut so that Ultimate could be still valuable to play on the new backward-compatible console. Spirits should solely be an Ultimate thing. Let's replace them with cards for the stat-enhancing character pictures and bring back trophies to view.
@@SeanWheeler100 Smash 4 was rendered obsolete when Smash Ultimate first came out and the stuff it doesn't have, Brawl has instead. As for reboots, everyone makes this assumption that just because they cut characters, that means they'll add game modes that they want. We already had Smash 4 and we expected them to build off of Brawl with Subspace and such. What we got instead is Smash tour, angry birds target test, one of the worst classic modes we've ever seen and a bunch of game modes that were basically multi man but with minor differences. Honestly, a Smash reboot is definitely going to create another divide in the fanbase with those moving on to the reboot and those who will stick to Smash Ultimate. Smash Bros has reached it's peak and it's going to go all down hill from here on out.
@@Chronobus Well, I hope they do something like an Ultimate Deluxe in the next Smash game. Ultimate may have had all the characters, but not all the stages. And World of Light barely had any story to it, so I hope the next Smash game had a story that's like a sequel to the Subspace Emissary. If they don't want the cutscenes on UA-cam, then Nintendo should copyright strike UA-camrs uploading those cutscenes. The PS4's live streaming features has something blocking certain parts from going into the video such as the Let It Go song from Kingdom Hearts III, so maybe Nintendo could do something like that for the next console and take down any video that shows cutscenes that they don't want online.

I love the smash 64 roster so much, seeing the og cast missing will be kinda heartbreaking, if they can’t bring everyone back, at least keep the 12 we know and grew with.
One thing I really want more than anything in the next Smash game is more interaction between the characters.
For a crossover game, Smash doesn't really take advantage of that imo, since the characters literally do nothing but fight each other, albeit with some exceptions. I'm not expecting 50+ characters to all have unique dialogues with each other, but more Palutena's guidance/Snake's codec type of fanservice would be very much appreciated.
Or, if the next Smash game ends up being a port (even though you mentioned it being unlikely), how about adding some linear story and dialogue in World of Light? Or even maybe CGI cutscenes, since they won't be making that many new reveal trailers? I just really wish the interaction between characters are more focused on next time around.
You are right. I love all the weird team ups in subspace emissary. Mario and Pit, Link and Yoshi, Olimar and Captain Falcon, Meta Knight and Marth. Those interactions were the best. i think the best (not realistic) route would be basically
-runs on an entirely new engine
-a story mode
-every character from ultimate but the move sets are completely redone
-dlc that spans way longer, like 4 passes

I don’t understand how as soon as Smash Ultimate came out, people started shitting on Smash 4 like it was worse than Brawl, like it definitely was not underwhelming. I think people just fell out of love with it with Bayo and Cloud dominating competitive near the end of its life, and when Ultimate came out, everyone just forgot everything they liked about Smash 4. Great call on two different Final Smash versions, and yes Raggins, of course we want to see a video going over every character in your roster of 40 + 15 third party + 14 dlc fighters.
I don't see whats bad with a port, ultimate is already so good so seeing it again with a few more characters, minor mechanical changes, good online and maybe a new game mode sounds perfect.
As for the reboot thing, cutting so many especially first parties od going to be super controversial. I expect around 70 characters next game, 60 minimum. But 15 third party seems questionable, that's almost a fourth of the roster!
Problem is even in a smaller roster veterans likely won't change much, as the devs seem to have a clear desire to keep characters mostly the same and "accessable" across games. Plus veterans would still be prioritized so not that many newcomers are going to be likely still
I think the best direction for smash is to release a game with 50 or so characters, then continually update it and add more over the course of several years. Basically a live service game

I don't know if a new Smash would outdo SSB Ultimate. Same to be said that I don't think the next Mario Kart could outdo MK8 Deluxe. Those 2 games are going to be hard to be over achieved for what Smash Ultimate and MK 8 Deluxe have done for those franchises.
Nintendo is full of surprises, and "Switch 2" is said to be on par with Xbox One & PlayStation 4 in terms of power. With the right development team & adequate development time, I think they can pull off something extraordinary for their two top-sellers.
the problem with the meter is that there are a ton of characters who either a.dont have transformations, or b. have it in their final smash.because characters like game and watch or meta knight dont really have transformations.

I don't understand the Smash 4 hate, that game introduced the world to handheld smash which was awesome for the time. What was also really cool, and a rarely used feature, was you could actually sync your 3ds to the wii u and use it as a controller.

I know that it is difficult to make a story mode that involves all the characters, but if not, something I would love for them to do is put interactions between the characters before entering the fight, something similar to what the Mortal Kombat characters do, Imagine Mario and Sonic making jokes or insults to each other before entering into combat, and in the end depending on who wins, dialogues similar to those in Street Fighter are shown when one character beats another. For me that would make the unbeatable better.
I honestly don't see that many 3rd party charachters going if their's a new smash game. I used to think Cloud would be gone but then we got two square enix charachters as dlc one of which they would've had to jump through insane hoops to get. Plus almost all of the final fantasy games are on switch now ontop of a remake of Super Mario rpg coming, with all this in mind I think Square and Atlus are the most guaranteed along with Sega. The one that might be the biggest problem is Konami because their Konami.
For me a Smash reboot will feel complete if they add in Cloud, Sephiroth, Sora, Sonic, Shadow and Dr. Eggman as among the few 3rd party additions and I’ll be happy, so it’s good hearing what you said about Square and Sega. Although with that being said, I think it’d be worth trying to at least bring back Steve if they wanted to bring back a Microsoft character between Banjo & Kazooie and Steve, Steve makes the most sense to bring back due to his popularity. Bonus points if they make a new and improved Subspace Emissary based story with all 50 or 60 characters included, realistically 50.

I feel there are 2 options. Either they make a Deluxe edition with more DLC like MK8D or they make an entirely new game that is storybased. Imagine a Smash Bros. JRPG by Monolith Soft
In my personal opinion, Nintendo could easily justify a SSB Ultimate Deluxe with more DLC and a few new features, or something like slightly upgraded graphics for the next-generation hardware.

Smash 4 is the improved game after brawl that did not have tripping and had custom moves to customise your characters and make them play slightly different. It had free and not awfull online play and i think the classic mode was fun AF and had so much fun on smash tour even though the rest of the community seemed to hate it. It was with smash tour me and my friends had the most fun. Its also the smash game with the largest thropy collection.

Smash 4 introduced reveal trailers, Brawl had trailers but they were mainly just fancy gameplay where as Smash 4 had actual animation in the trailers
I wanna see the echo fighter system used way more, we could have had so many characters added to ultimate but they really didn't make all that many echo fighters

I got four games ideas that could be smash
1: (tai fu wrath of the Tiger )I feel like this game should have a remaster and for tai final smash could have him doing his karate moves .
2:(Asura wrath ) I think asura could be in smash because he could you his fighting skills to win and his final smash when he have all his arm out and smash the opponent into the sun.

I really can’t understand anyone thinking that anything BUT porting Ultimate is the best idea. People are going to be upset if characters get cut, we’ve already seen that, and assuming porting Ultimate is significantly easier than making a new game, just adding more content to that game will make the most people happy.
Heck, there’s nothing saying they can’t overhaul character movesets in an Ultimate port.
I love how people still assume a proper Subspace follow up after Sakurai stated it won't happen again, now that character trailers are a thing.

Hey not every MCU project post Endgame is bad. WandaVision, Shang Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, Loki season 1, Spiderman No Way Home, Black Panther Wakanda Forever, Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 and Loki season 2 exist.
I’d personally love a Rivals of Aether-style custom colour maker. Just the basics, Mario, for example, would have you be able to edit stuff like his hat, shirt, overalls, gloves, and shoes. Just the colour, not exactly expecting much beyond that, but it would help rectify any issues anyone has with a character’s costumes. They can just do it themselves
What i would want is to add new DLC characters but also the ability to port DLC characters from Ultimate (if you have it)
I wonder how people would feel about re-cloning some characters in order to have everybody be there again. I know people hate echo fighters less than they used to hate clones, but would we rather have Luigi, Dr. Mario, Falco, Wolf, Roy, Lucas, Young Link, Toon Link, and Pichu be clones than not have them at all?

Id be down if they made all the trophy assists chatacters and made the main cast trophies. It woild be sad to see everyone leave but would be neat as a party game.
Best thing to do is cut down and streamline. We don't need 100+ characters, we need 30-40 balanced ones. Revamp some older characters, give us a couple new ones, make the roster feel diverse with unique playstyles.

What about eevee and the eeveelutions? There are so many wild cards like incineroar that are just... there and I feel like the joint mascot of pokemon should be a playable character instead of a tackle item and spirit. And no I'm not saying that each eeveelution should be a separate character; if anything it should be 1 character that could have 1 or 2 moves per eeveelution, with them u turning every attack. But that'll be extremely unlikely.
I was thinking of something like dumping the next game into the community’s hands and let them make their own fighters. This is what Rivals of Aether does, and I would love to see a community based fighting game from Nintendo.

I swear to god if smash adds sans as an actual character I’m gonna fucking explode out of joy ( or just any Undertale character in general I don’t care if it’s froggit that my new main ), also all these skins Mario and Luigi have sometimes use they’re power ups so I had an idea for a mechanic that they could have, so basically they will have a move where they pull out a question block and you can jump up to hit or you could also use it as a platform and it stays until you hit where it will disappear shortly after being hit, so basically you probably figured it out by now when Mario or Luigi and heck even princess peach hits it the block spews out a power up as usual and when they touch this it gives them said power up and it could be anything range from the mushroom making you bigger to like the hammer suit or something it could be any power up from the series, anyways that’s an idea I had for Mario and Luigi to make things a little more interesting but for this to work fully I guess you would have to remove the fireball from they’re moveset but do not worry because we can always have a substitute, Mario and Luigi’s hammer from paper Mario I think, also the question block could have a super rare chance to give the super hammer from Mario maker which kinda revamps the moveset and let’s Mario place breakable blocks like Steve except they don’t break over time, also the you can lose the power up after you take enough damage or you choose another one from the ? Block, anyway I just thought that would be a super sick rework for Mario and Luigi
( note: I just realized that the fireball move could have just been replaced with the ? Block lol but I was thinking of that as like a down special so eh ) I would still love a smash game with new characters ( especially Undertale ) ok bye
personally, i prefer the idea of a reboot. trim the fat of the roster. give the already existing fighters revised, more unique movesets. if there's one gripe i have with smash, it's the abundance of clones and fighters with bland movesets. with the sheer amount of fighters in ultimate's roster, they can't all be winners. but if you peel away some of the unnecessary characters, there could be a much bigger focus on moveset diversity. quality over quantity, as you said. 3rd party fighters should still be present, though. i can't imagine a modern smash game without 3rd party fighters.
I think every old character should get a different moveset in next game. Like mario having cappy from odyssey
We need more Sonic characters like Dr. Eggman, Knuckles, Amy, Tails, we also need more Punch Out characters
Personally, I'd have Smash 6 act as the Resident Evil 4 of the series. Completely shake up the franchise by overhauling of the gameplay style. In other words, 3D Smash. Imagine an arena styled Smash, along the likes of the Naruto Storm games.
As for the roster, it'd start small of course, let's say 6 characters from 6 of Nintendo's most well known franchises, giving a nice number of 36 characters to start with. But over the years (thinking long term like 5 - 10 years) more and more characters and content would be added. As for how to go about adding characters, I'd have it go in waves much like Ultimate's Fighter Pass, but series focused waves. So say the base game starts with the afformentioned 36 Nintendo characters. Then with Wave 1 focused exclusively on the Sonic series for example, with 6 Sonic fighters and some stages based from the series. Then Wave 2 let's say DMC focused, Wave 3 Ratchet & Clank focused, etc. (obviously this isn't limited to just 3rd party characters)
For the story, it would pretty much go the Fortnite/Genshin route in which it's an ever expanding story with each set of characters added, building up to a great narrative. Voice acting to of course.
Rip amiibos, thats why i said have the amiibos unlock the character you want. And later on they can release those missing characters as quiet DLC 😂, no but seriously idk whats gonna happen.

I want over 100 Chars in the next Smash. I would love to see a Stone Type Pokemon. I love the latest fire fight pokemon (incineroar) bit i think such a slow pokemon would better fit with a Stone Pokemon.
Yeah. If they do the echo stuff again, maybe some characters like Peppy, Slippy, Raichu, Octoling, or even Violet from Persona 5 Royale could be good echo fighters.

Considering that the next Nintendo console is reportedly going to be backwards compatible, I don't really see why Nintendo would want to reboot when they already have Ultimate and could just keep selling Fighter Passes.
Why keep selling Fighter Passes to a Switch game after the next Nintendo console comes out? Ultimate's Fighter Passes are done. And besides, the Wii and Wii U were backwards compatible and they still got Smash games.
@@SeanWheeler100 I am wholly unconvinced that Nintendo is done with Smash Ultimate. If it's true that the Switch successor is backwards compatible, that gives them all the more reason to enhance Smash Ultimate for it.
@@Chronobus Being backwards compatible doesn't mean Nintendo would keep supporting the previous console. Shortly after the Wii U was released, Nintendo had discontinued the Nintendo Wifi Connection which ended online play for Wii and DS games despite the Wii U being backwards compatible with the Wii and the handheld counterpart the 3DS was backwards compatible with the DS. You can't play Wii or DS games online anymore, even when you play them on your Wii U or 3DS. Nintendo changes its online service with every console. The Wii and DS had Nintendo Wifi Connection. The Wii U and 3DS had the Nintendo Network. And the Switch had Nintendo Switch Online. When Nintendo releases it's next console, it will no doubt be on a new online service and Nintendo Switch Online would eventually go offline. They can't update the Switch games when the Nintendo Switch Online service goes offline. So, there would be no more updates for Smash Ultimate unless they make a Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Deluxe for the new console, which would make your original Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Switch cartridge worthless because all the updates would be going to the Deluxe version while the Switch game remains at the Sora update. It would be better to make a new Smash game. As much as I would like the next Smash game to be bigger than Ultimate and be the LEGO Star Wars: The Complete Saga of all the Smash games with every character, stage, mode, song, trophy, sticker and spirit from the entire series, some things would have to be cut so that Ultimate could be still valuable to play on the new backward-compatible console. Spirits should solely be an Ultimate thing. Let's replace them with cards for the stat-enhancing character pictures and bring back trophies to view.
@@SeanWheeler100 Smash 4 was rendered obsolete when Smash Ultimate first came out and the stuff it doesn't have, Brawl has instead.
As for reboots, everyone makes this assumption that just because they cut characters, that means they'll add game modes that they want. We already had Smash 4 and we expected them to build off of Brawl with Subspace and such. What we got instead is Smash tour, angry birds target test, one of the worst classic modes we've ever seen and a bunch of game modes that were basically multi man but with minor differences.
Honestly, a Smash reboot is definitely going to create another divide in the fanbase with those moving on to the reboot and those who will stick to Smash Ultimate. Smash Bros has reached it's peak and it's going to go all down hill from here on out.
@@Chronobus Well, I hope they do something like an Ultimate Deluxe in the next Smash game. Ultimate may have had all the characters, but not all the stages. And World of Light barely had any story to it, so I hope the next Smash game had a story that's like a sequel to the Subspace Emissary. If they don't want the cutscenes on UA-cam, then Nintendo should copyright strike UA-camrs uploading those cutscenes. The PS4's live streaming features has something blocking certain parts from going into the video such as the Let It Go song from Kingdom Hearts III, so maybe Nintendo could do something like that for the next console and take down any video that shows cutscenes that they don't want online.
