I can not believe ARMY OF TWO didn’t make this list. Some of the best fun I had playing that game with my father. The Agro skill was so fun going back to back just taking out enemies.

Halo coop campaigns are literally the best times of my life with my older brother. Waking up in the morning and playing until our mom would yell at us to eat breakfast. And that last mission on halo 3 with the warthog for the very first time is a memory with him that’s fried into my brain

I experienced Gears of War 1-3 solely by playing coop with my brother and that was pretty fun. I want to say Army of Two a game designed around coop, I remember that game being a good time. Never got to play the sequel but my brother and I enjoyed the first one.
I’m actually surprised that’s not on here, along with the OG Star Wars Battlefront 2 Campaign or galactic conquest, and Black Hawk Down. It had a co-op campaign that played differently from the single player one and that game was fun. Long before we got CoD Modern Warfare and Spec Ops in MW2

It's the best Mortal Kombat game of all time. I don't care what anyone says. In terms of everything MK brings to their usual games, Shoalin Monks had great gameplay. Cool characters moves, along with Sub zero and Scorpion as unlocks, and an actual cool story with Cool interactive levels. I'll die on this hill of Shoalin Monks being the best MK game ever. They need to do a sequal and get away from this 1 v 1 stuff. It's overdone and doesn't offer anything worth $70. Shoalin Monks, and Resident Evil 5 are the greatest coop games of all time. Army of two is up there, as is Army of Two, Devils Cartel was an underrated gem.

Left for Dead 2 realism mode is to notch fun. My cousin and I have logged tons of hours on that mode alone. I'm sure it's even better with a full squad. It turns off all the highlights and doesn't hold your hand as much. Play it on normal difficulty or higher, and it's amazing
I finally just got 4 like 2 years ago and still play with my friend from time to time. Actually finally got gat out of hell here recently and have been playing that. Man I miss those saints row games when they were goofy and fun. It's a shame what they did to the franchise with the last one. RIP 🙏

@@zielona_f really? I played it on PC a few months after release and didn't encounter a single glitch or bug, it was a smooth and satisfying experience. I had a lot of fun in the new locations, zombies and Parkour! For me it was an amazing experience, both were. I was a little disappointed with the night since that wasn't as scary as Dying light 1 especially because there were no Volatiles roaming around but I saw that they updated that and even added a new DLC so I am planning to even revisit the game. Maybe the "only 1 person progression" is a frustrating for some people but I played both of the games entirely co op so that didn't really matter to me, in fact I didn't even know that this was the case until your comment lol.
My favorite local coop is Resident Evil 5. As a RE game, it may not be loved, but as a co-op game, it's one of the best imo. Online coop is are GRAW and GRAW 2. Those games had 16-player co-op. When you turn off the respawns and radar assist, man, it's intense. I remember playing missions that lasted an hour or so because it took so much coordination... even with great teammates, we would rarely pass missions with even 1/4 the team surviving.
yeah I was thinking the exact same thing! perhaps ppl are tired of BG3 being hailed as the greatest thing ever lol (even though i wouldn't argue against that). but it FOR SURE is an amazing coop experience.
It Take Two is great and that part with the elephant was to show how selfish they had become and how they didn't even care about hurting their daughter no matter the lengths they needed to go to.
Yeah, I played it with my teen daughter (her mom & I divorced when she was very little)... it was brutal, but when I asked her about it afterwards, she completely understood the point they were getting across. We both hated that the game ended with them reconciled, though, because they have such a toxic relationship & the ending seemed to fly in the face of the entire rest of the game.

My wife and I had such a good time playing "It Takes Two". We understood why the parents thought that killing Cutie was the answer, but we cringed at how wrong we knew they were. None of the story bits ruined our experience and we were very satisfied once we finished.
Untitled Goose Game is one of the most underrated co-op games I’ve played in years. The side scrolling beat em ups largely have been very reliable lately.
Imagine Activison making a Call of Duty where the campaign is literally co-op. Just imagine the copies it will sell. It's that simple and that effective. All they have to do is that. Not realistic graphics, not a battle pass, not multiple connected game servers. Just a good old fashioned engaging over the top story with CO-OP!!!
Except they’re money hungry and they know they don’t need to put in the extra work to make money as people will buy them anyway, pay for the battlepass and now the black cell thing will always be there because it’s another way the players keep giving them money
Shredder's Revenge also gets points for having one of the best soundtracks for a beaten up! The final boss levels are off the chain! Now who do we talk to about another X-Men game?
I wanna throw out a couple. Killing Floor 1 and 2 are great. Resident Evil 5 and Dead Space 3 coop are imo the way to play these games, even if they are considered lesser in their series, it is just so much fun on top of getting more from the games. Many of the Ghost Recon games, I'd pick Future Soldier, Wildlands, and Breakpoint(after all the patches) are also great coop games if you can get 2-4 people together. Also Rainbow Six Vegas 2 is also another great coop game. Edit: HOW COULD I FORGET EARTH DEFENSE FORCE. You want blow away giant insects mindlessly, there is not better game

Me and my gf have been playing so much stardew valley, it’s such a fun game to just unwind and chill out with. She likes cozy games and it has a good progression system so I have a lot of fun too. Honestly one of the best co-op games I’ve ever played
Me and my family LOVED playing the X-Men Legends and Marvel Ultimate Alliance games growing up. Was always a blast to get to pick our favorite characters to play as and work together to beat iconic villains. Though the cameras were a little janky at times, it was nice to be able to all play on 1 screen vs having to deal with a splitscreen. Similar game that was kind of a sleeper hit was Shrek 2. Similar co-op topdown brawler (less emphasis on the RPG stat aspects) but a ton of fun.
Appreciate the shout-out to Splinter Cell CT. That co-op campaign was tons of fun, designed from the ground up as a separate campaign too. I remember performing the co-op moves, sneaking around, defusing bombs and goofing around with the NPC's with a buddy. As for L4D, it's the 8 player Versus mode that did it for me. It combined all the joys of co-op with versus multiplayer and with a great group of people and cross-speak on it could be absolutely hilarious. Ah, good times :')
Overwatch in an AC130 is what overwatch actually is, in military terms. It's basically long range support from elevation, it's often snipers, though it's also fairly common for helicopter gunships or drones to provide overwatch.

I had absolutely no idea that Evil West was co-op. Thanks for letting me know. Two things though; even when I am not a big fan, I don't feel like the Borderlands saga should be a bonus... It should at least be top 5, considering how long the campaigns are, how many people you can play with and how the progress works in co-op. Also, Dying Light, which is at least better than the Far Cry games in terms of co-op (better progression, more people and just overall better game), and it is not even a bonus mention :(.
No one ever talks about Strange Brigade!!! I’m so happy you guys did. It deserves more love. I love that game. It’s my favorite “play to play something” that and Hitman lol.

I'll second Stardew Valley. One of my all-time favorite games, although I've yet to try co-op. The Lego games are all couch co-op (except the Wii U version of Undercover). Overcooked All You Can Eat includes the first 2 games + DLC and those are pretty hectic and fun. Shovel Knight Pocket Dungeon has a VS mode.
You mentioned TMNT Shredder's Revenge is 4 player co-op, it's actually 6. It literally shows this on the screen when you say it. I'm guessing the editor knew and just showed it on screen. Also, The PC/Steam version of Lost Planet 2 is still playable online, but sadly, you can't buy the game from Steam anymore thanks to Capcom pulling it down. You can still play it online, but be prepared to install Games for Windows Live (GFWL) on Windows 11. It took me a few tries, but I got it working. It's hard to find other players and when you do, there's no drop in/drop out. You must have everyone join at the lobby before starting. Given how old the game is, it not being sold currently and the GFWL mandatory install, the player population is super low. I also had to download a modified DLL to even get the game working correctly under Windows 11. Still, when it does work, it even supports Windows 11 AutoHDR and it looks really good. I remember getting Strange Brigade for free when I bought a new graphics card for my Pc and I was pleasantly surprised with how much fun it was. The Transatlantic accent of the narrator and the heavily alliterated phrasing or mission names was just wonderful.
I'd put in the list Magicka 2, Duck Game, Trine 4, Army of Two, Diablo III (finished the game with max level of character with a friend in harder and harder difficulty modes), Crash B. MOM and Crash of the Titans, Gradius III (debatable) A LOT OF RACING GAMES, like Top Gear Series or Horizon Chase Turbo... Anyways, there are tons of really good games... finally, for me, It Takes Two is easiest #1, and I found the story pretty cute, I don't know why anyone wouldn't love it!
Happy to see Left 4 Dead 2 at #2. The Grandfather of FPS Survival Horror games. So many great memories I will forever cherish when it was at it's peak. You really had to be there😢😪 I highly recommend to anyone that has not played it before. The purest gaming experience of its genre. No gimmicks, just pure fun and if you're on PC, like Falcon said, it's got a TON of custom content that basically keeps the game thriving.

One that i personaly can sugest to anyone wanting a chaotic fun time is Snowruner Co-Op. Geting stuck in mud or snow and having your friend try to help you just to get stuck aswel is the most laugh you can have.
The memories I have of my brother and I playing Army of Two are among my favorite gaming memories ever. Immediately thought of that game when it came to best co op campaigns
One more thing about Strange Brigade. This games just runs very well on most pcs. It scales well in graphics settings and on different hardware. We are use to games having small problems like a little stutter here and there. But Strange Brigade just runs very smooth. It runs so well that most people probably don't even think about it, I truly would love if every game ran this well. Sadly not many people have played this game. Even I think I should have played it more, but there are just so many games.
The Monster Hunter series has the best Co-op and has gotten much better over the years going way back to 2004 on the Ps2. MH Tri was when I got my first multiplayer experiance as my home never had the internet back in the ps2's day. MH World/Iceborne became the series in which my family and friends would play with me of which made me so happy! Finally getting the people I care about the most to play a game I love was the best and now they are all looking forward to MH Wilds! : D

I think you forgot to mention Darksiders Genesis. I had a blast playing that game in coop. And Forced, and THE best coop I have played has been Nine Parchments. You get to combine spells top-down and every playthrough is different depending on what spells you pick up.

First game I played COOP, eventually moved to Borderlands.
I was 15 when that game dropped and I stayed at a friends house that weekend to run it coop.

@@zielona_f really? I played it on PC a few months after release and didn't encounter a single glitch or bug, it was a smooth and satisfying experience. I had a lot of fun in the new locations, zombies and Parkour! For me it was an amazing experience, both were. I was a little disappointed with the night since that wasn't as scary as Dying light 1 especially because there were no Volatiles roaming around but I saw that they updated that and even added a new DLC so I am planning to even revisit the game.
Maybe the "only 1 person progression" is a frustrating for some people but I played both of the games entirely co op so that didn't really matter to me, in fact I didn't even know that this was the case until your comment lol.

Resident Evil 5 co-op playing as Chris and Sheva is awesome, played through it with my nephew and it was a great time.
My favorite local coop is Resident Evil 5. As a RE game, it may not be loved, but as a co-op game, it's one of the best imo.
Online coop is are GRAW and GRAW 2. Those games had 16-player co-op. When you turn off the respawns and radar assist, man, it's intense. I remember playing missions that lasted an hour or so because it took so much coordination... even with great teammates, we would rarely pass missions with even 1/4 the team surviving.
Meanwhile, I did a few of those with just 1 friend.
I know Baldur's Gate 3 gets all the praise it deserves, but still deserves to be on the list
yeah I was thinking the exact same thing! perhaps ppl are tired of BG3 being hailed as the greatest thing ever lol (even though i wouldn't argue against that). but it FOR SURE is an amazing coop experience.
It Take Two is great and that part with the elephant was to show how selfish they had become and how they didn't even care about hurting their daughter no matter the lengths they needed to go to.
Yeah, I played it with my teen daughter (her mom & I divorced when she was very little)... it was brutal, but when I asked her about it afterwards, she completely understood the point they were getting across.
We both hated that the game ended with them reconciled, though, because they have such a toxic relationship & the ending seemed to fly in the face of the entire rest of the game.
Conflict Desert Storm for Ps2 and Xbox was so much fun on co-op.

My wife and I had such a good time playing "It Takes Two". We understood why the parents thought that killing Cutie was the answer, but we cringed at how wrong we knew they were. None of the story bits ruined our experience and we were very satisfied once we finished.
Untitled Goose Game is one of the most underrated co-op games I’ve played in years.
The side scrolling beat em ups largely have been very reliable lately.

Hell Divers 2 has been one of the best co op games I've played since Left for Dead 2. So much fun.
Imagine Activison making a Call of Duty where the campaign is literally co-op. Just imagine the copies it will sell. It's that simple and that effective. All they have to do is that. Not realistic graphics, not a battle pass, not multiple connected game servers. Just a good old fashioned engaging over the top story with CO-OP!!!

I wanna throw out a couple. Killing Floor 1 and 2 are great. Resident Evil 5 and Dead Space 3 coop are imo the way to play these games, even if they are considered lesser in their series, it is just so much fun on top of getting more from the games. Many of the Ghost Recon games, I'd pick Future Soldier, Wildlands, and Breakpoint(after all the patches) are also great coop games if you can get 2-4 people together. Also Rainbow Six Vegas 2 is also another great coop game. Edit: HOW COULD I FORGET EARTH DEFENSE FORCE. You want blow away giant insects mindlessly, there is not better game

I played zombies ate my neighbours with my sister growing up and I feel like the game deserves a remaster and should get way more love than it has gotten over the years!!
Remnant II reminds me of those weird PS1 and PS2 AA titles that you’d find in a discount bin and then end up having it be one of your favorites

Me and my gf have been playing so much stardew valley, it’s such a fun game to just unwind and chill out with. She likes cozy games and it has a good progression system so I have a lot of fun too. Honestly one of the best co-op games I’ve ever played
My buddy and i are currently doing a full LASO run of the master chief collection and holy hell we've been stuck on Halo 2 for months now
The best thing about LFD2 is the drop in-drop out mechanic with ever adjusting difficulty depending on players/skills. It always feels 'just right'

Me and my family LOVED playing the X-Men Legends and Marvel Ultimate Alliance games growing up. Was always a blast to get to pick our favorite characters to play as and work together to beat iconic villains. Though the cameras were a little janky at times, it was nice to be able to all play on 1 screen vs having to deal with a splitscreen. Similar game that was kind of a sleeper hit was Shrek 2. Similar co-op topdown brawler (less emphasis on the RPG stat aspects) but a ton of fun.
Appreciate the shout-out to Splinter Cell CT. That co-op campaign was tons of fun, designed from the ground up as a separate campaign too. I remember performing the co-op moves, sneaking around, defusing bombs and goofing around with the NPC's with a buddy. As for L4D, it's the 8 player Versus mode that did it for me. It combined all the joys of co-op with versus multiplayer and with a great group of people and cross-speak on it could be absolutely hilarious. Ah, good times :')
Overwatch in an AC130 is what overwatch actually is, in military terms. It's basically long range support from elevation, it's often snipers, though it's also fairly common for helicopter gunships or drones to provide overwatch.

I had absolutely no idea that Evil West was co-op. Thanks for letting me know. Two things though; even when I am not a big fan, I don't feel like the Borderlands saga should be a bonus... It should at least be top 5, considering how long the campaigns are, how many people you can play with and how the progress works in co-op. Also, Dying Light, which is at least better than the Far Cry games in terms of co-op (better progression, more people and just overall better game), and it is not even a bonus mention :(.

I'll second Stardew Valley. One of my all-time favorite games, although I've yet to try co-op. The Lego games are all couch co-op (except the Wii U version of Undercover). Overcooked All You Can Eat includes the first 2 games + DLC and those are pretty hectic and fun. Shovel Knight Pocket Dungeon has a VS mode.
You mentioned TMNT Shredder's Revenge is 4 player co-op, it's actually 6. It literally shows this on the screen when you say it. I'm guessing the editor knew and just showed it on screen.
Also, The PC/Steam version of Lost Planet 2 is still playable online, but sadly, you can't buy the game from Steam anymore thanks to Capcom pulling it down. You can still play it online, but be prepared to install Games for Windows Live (GFWL) on Windows 11. It took me a few tries, but I got it working. It's hard to find other players and when you do, there's no drop in/drop out. You must have everyone join at the lobby before starting. Given how old the game is, it not being sold currently and the GFWL mandatory install, the player population is super low. I also had to download a modified DLL to even get the game working correctly under Windows 11. Still, when it does work, it even supports Windows 11 AutoHDR and it looks really good. Secret of Mana was the 1st co-op game i can remember, it's old but it's such a good game.
Uncharted 2 & 3 co-op story missions were my favorite aspects of the multiplayer.
Farcry 6 was a massive disappointment
The specialized ammo system where different enemies require different ammo was beyond dumb and I hope to never see it again

I remember getting Strange Brigade for free when I bought a new graphics card for my Pc and I was pleasantly surprised with how much fun it was. The Transatlantic accent of the narrator and the heavily alliterated phrasing or mission names was just wonderful.

I'd put in the list Magicka 2, Duck Game, Trine 4, Army of Two, Diablo III (finished the game with max level of character with a friend in harder and harder difficulty modes), Crash B. MOM and Crash of the Titans, Gradius III (debatable) A LOT OF RACING GAMES, like Top Gear Series or Horizon Chase Turbo... Anyways, there are tons of really good games... finally, for me, It Takes Two is easiest #1, and I found the story pretty cute, I don't know why anyone wouldn't love it!

Happy to see Left 4 Dead 2 at #2. The Grandfather of FPS Survival Horror games. So many great memories I will forever cherish when it was at it's peak. You really had to be there😢😪 I highly recommend to anyone that has not played it before. The purest gaming experience of its genre. No gimmicks, just pure fun and if you're on PC, like Falcon said, it's got a TON of custom content that basically keeps the game thriving.

One that i personaly can sugest to anyone wanting a chaotic fun time is Snowruner Co-Op. Geting stuck in mud or snow and having your friend try to help you just to get stuck aswel is the most laugh you can have.
The memories I have of my brother and I playing Army of Two are among my favorite gaming memories ever. Immediately thought of that game when it came to best co op campaigns
One more thing about Strange Brigade. This games just runs very well on most pcs. It scales well in graphics settings and on different hardware. We are use to games having small problems like a little stutter here and there. But Strange Brigade just runs very smooth. It runs so well that most people probably don't even think about it, I truly would love if every game ran this well. Sadly not many people have played this game. Even I think I should have played it more, but there are just so many games.
The Monster Hunter series has the best Co-op and has gotten much better over the years going way back to 2004 on the Ps2. MH Tri was when I got my first multiplayer experiance as my home never had the internet back in the ps2's day. MH World/Iceborne became the series in which my family and friends would play with me of which made me so happy! Finally getting the people I care about the most to play a game I love was the best and now they are all looking forward to MH Wilds! : D

I think you forgot to mention Darksiders Genesis. I had a blast playing that game in coop. And Forced, and THE best coop I have played has been Nine Parchments. You get to combine spells top-down and every playthrough is different depending on what spells you pick up.
