- Here I briefly describe what Russian school system is truly like. Even though this is very brief, it took up almost 12 minutes of me talking lol.

I guess we don't have history, biology or geography in elementary school, instead there is a subject called "окружающий мир" (The World Around Us) which includes all these subjects
In Bulgaria we called it Човек и природа (Man and nature) and for history it was "Man and society" (Човек и общество).
Here in Serbia we also have a same thing called "Свет око нас" (The World around Us) and "Природа и друштво" (nature and society). The first thing (Свет око нас) was in first and second grade, then in 3rd and 4th grade, we have the second thing, even though they're the same thing, just under different name.
Well, im American and (atleast where i live, Michigan) we call it Social Studies, not history or all that, it fits in one subject

I noticed when my son was in early elementary they spent almost the entire day on Language Arts and Math, had 1 or 2 of their enrichments: PE, Music, Art, STEM and STEAM and then would have either a social studies or a science topic daily. They could weeks without having a science topic or weeks without having a social science topic. In a way it was helpful a lot of students had pull outs for speech, etc… so if they had to go to speech during LA they still would spend 30 minutes on it when they got back to class. 9:10-3:50 was the school day even in 1st grade.

i'm swedish and i feel like the russian system is similar to the swedish one in many aspects. for example, you mentioned that kids are divided into smaller classes (a, b, etc) with one over-looking teacher. that's exactly how it is in sweden too and i've always been in the "b-class" lol.

One thing u kinda missed was about moving schools. We don’t move schools just because we move cities, there are many schools in our area close by that only support up to a certain point, so u have to change schools after graduating elementary school.
In Egypt, one attends pre-school at the age of 4. It lasts for 2 yeas. Elementary school lasts for 6 years, from 6 to 12. Middle school is for 3 years, and high school is for 3 years. The age also depends on which kind of school one attends. There are private, public, convent, and international schools. I went to an international school, and pre- school there accepted students of 3 and half years old. Everything was taught to me in English, apart from Arabic and religion.
Very informative, similar to schools in America. I was wondering if the pre-school has a separate building from the elementary.

I started school at 6 too, and here too when a new student arrived, the teacher would focus on them. Back then we had 3-4 teachers, one teacher took care of 3 subjects -Maths, English, Science.
And a PT (same as PE) teacher who take care of PE and outdoor games.
I am shocked how much this sounds like my education in the Netherlands. Their are some differences (college for us is like Americans for instance) but still it is fun to hear that despite the distance it is not all super different. 😃
In the NL you also only choose for hands-on education at age 16??
It's been a long time since I went to school, and it seems that things have changed a bit since that time. For me, Elementary School was from grades 1-6, and you started 1st grade when you were six. Then, we had "junior high school" from the ages of about 12-13 for two years. And after that, we went to high school for four years, from about 14-18. (I know the names and the amount of time kids spend in what is now usually called "middle school, instead of of "junior high school have changed. And I believe that in some places high school is only three years, instead of four. However, what puzzles me is that you said that in the US kids go to schools far from their homes. In my experience, the school you went to--before college/university, of course--was *always* the one that was closest to your home--unless you attended a private school, such as a Catholic school. I've lived outside of the States for so long now that I'm not sure whether my experience is completely passé, or not!

--> children are divided into (mostly) three kinds of middle/ high schools: one with lower expectations, one with high expectations and one with expectations in between the other two between. (the students are judged by their grades)
-lower expectation school (5-9) usually stundents start an apprenticeship (more craftsman oriented) or switch to the middle expectation school after graduating
-middle expectation school (5-10) usually students start an apprenticeship (more business oriented) or switch to the high expectation school after graduating
-high expectation school (5-12 or 13) usually students go on to university after graduating
there are other kinds of middle/high schools, but these are the main ones

In America, I’ve kinda been in school since I was like 5, but before that we have preschool, and daycare and stuff, but anyways…
Kindergarten is for 1 year, and I was 5 when i started it.
Elementary School is 1st through 5th grade, or 6 through 10 years old.
Middle School is 6th through 8th grade (11-13)
and High School is 9th through 12th grade (14-17)
College comes after that. School in the us doesn’t all operate on this program, but thats mine 😄
Let me make a small correction.
In Russia, traditionally, 10-11 grades are not considered a high school, it is upper classes of a middle school. So, if you graduated after nine years, you have so named "unfinished middle education". After college or rather Professional Technical Studying, one have finished professional middle education and can (if wants) go to High Technical School to receive high technical education.
And if finishing the 11 grade of a moddle school, a person has "finished middle education" and can go to a University, or a High School, or Academy. Names may vary, but all those are named High Studying Foundations, as total. So it works.

my dad told me that his school system when he was growing up was:
elementary [5-13] (based on conversation it seemed this was from elementary - highschool level )
options to take after elementary:
{tertiary [14-16] (vocational school)
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
{primary [14-17] (comparable to university level)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Mandatory service [18-19] (he said they just had to do some self dense stuff and had to pass belt tests)
secondary(graduate level)

Interesting Fedor, thank you. Danish School system is very similar. We have elementary and middle School as one School 1 to 9th grade 7-16 year's old. Then practical college for carpentry, car mechanic or chefs and more or gymnasium for book orientated High School. Then University. We also typically attend the Local school where kids walk to or ride their bikes. All children learn English from first grade now. Second foreign language from 5th grade typically German or French

Ну если вам интересно, я думаю что делать выбор для ремесла не ранее 16 лет... Это поздно. Может уже когда исполнилось 12, а это достаточно поздно.
They usually don't mix ages.
In the Netherlands we have *basicschool* from 4 till 12 and then we have a *the test*
40% will go to middle school for 4 more years. 30% will go to high school for 5 years and 20% will go to VERY high school for 6 years.
Only those who did VERY high school can go to the university they will be 18 years old when starting.
Those who went to high school will go to college which isn’t a university in the Netherlands. You can’t tell your boss I did high school for 5 years and was 17 years old and then went to *the university* he will say in Dutch that you mean college and that it’s different, but if the interview was in Dutch he would say yeah university of applied science Because it is seen internationally as universities of *applied science*
I’m going to stop or else it’s going to seem like I’m being annoying. And it is befitting to ignore the 30% that goes to middle school in the Netherlands for 4 years.

Great video. I'm a little confused though about the elementary class. You said that the elementary class is 4 years (7-10 years old) and one main teacher. Did you mean one class for 7 year olds, another for 8 year olds, and so on? Or one class for all the different ages together? Wouldn't that be a problem for the teacher with so many students at different levels of learning in the same class?
So, say in my first grade I had 25 classmates. After a year, I would still be with them in the second grade.
Of course, we're all separated. Each class is in an individual classroom.

Not the best school system in the world, but definitely better than the American school system (HELL).
Why?
Носок Судьбы because in America you start school when you are 5, and are forced to work for 7 hours a day, but you’ll usually spend 8 hours at school a day waiting for school to start and to get home, in elementary you have recess usually for 30 minutes, but in middle and high school the only break you have is a 30 minute lunch, and 7 hours of work, and you’re likely to forget all of it in a short time because of the way they teach it, they tell you something, and you have to remember it and write it on the test, and they don’t even teach you useful things, in elementary teaching science, math, English, and history is good because you need to know enough it to live a decent life, but after that it keeps getting harder and more useless because it’s so advanced that no one would use it in the real world.

You know in russia students want european or american system of education, well they want only one component of them - they want to be able to choose what subjects they will study, cause we must study all this shit, all 12(maybe more) subject even in the high school, and they become more complicated with every year, and yes, we remember nothing in the next year. Also sometimes you just dont have time to study what you need, for your future job. Its really hard to be excellent student, cause you just cant know everything, and a big number of students just stop give a damn about their grades(just dont have a lot of lowest grades), but some are just learn all of it, not even trying to comprehend it, they are excellent student, but in future they wont have a good job, university will be hard for them. And there is an unwritten rule that teachers are always right, you just cant argue with them, they will mark you with the low or lowest grade and will go on marking you down, because you hurt their ego, they think that they are always right just because they're older, not all of them, but a lot.
So you right, american system has its minuses, but you just havent seen minuses of russian.
