I rebuilt commercial pumps and motors for about 15 years replacing hundreds of bearings. A couple of times we found the bearings bad either from being dropped or bad machining. Sometimes the seal would be pressed in a skosh too far causing drag on the bearing which is what that sounds like. Hope this helps.

yes i checked that too. it was just the bad used bearing surface screwing with me. trying to save the customer some money causes me headaches. i managed to work it all out in the end.

By the sound alone , it sounds like the places on the gear going over the rollers , try a different gear . Any kind of a place on a bearing surface (like the places on the gear bearing surface) will cause a noise , you know that as well as I do . They must have really been jerking/clutching the bike to the extreme to cause those places on the gear bearing surface to start with , maybe not enough bearings installed caused it , or the the nut wasnt tightened correctly , those type of wear marks are found on worn universal joint bearing surfaces .

i haven't done one of these low buck rebuilds in a long time. all the problems i came across made for a hard, time consumming build. using good or new parts would have been a ton easier and a better trans. this one will still be good for 10k plus miles even with all the issues.

The rollers "cogging" in and out of those bad spots on race and gear when skinny rollers line up just right (or wrong, lol). Nothing to do to stop it besides replacing the gear and race, or other beyond budget labor intensive honing stuff. Like a growly old 3 speed saginaw, lol. "Spend the dough or live with it" call for the customer... "this is a job for 90w-140 ls gear oil". Shock loaded beat up parts gonna be shock loaded beat up parts

you pretty much got it. polishing up the gear bearing surface got it good enough to work for me. honing would have helped too.

if i was doing a full rebuild with good parts i would have. being what this one was i just went with what was here. this is not going to be a high mileage trans. it is also way less money.
