History and the passage of time has been kinder to Liefeld than I thought possible. Good. I'm still not a fan of much of his work, but he seems to be a genuinely decent dude, and I can't hate on him for his success and ambition.

25 minute answer to ONE question. Awesome! Love this channel, love Rob's energy and passion. We are lucky that a guy that is so pivotal to comics history for the past 30 years is so open and generous.

Regardless of what I may think of his body of work, there's no denying that Rob Liefeld always speaks highly of other comic creators. He shows the highest respect.

To be fair, the late Steve Moore would have written great stories for Rob. Those of us that read Warrior back in the day (and Dr Who strips before that - with Dave Gibbons!) knew about Steve's talent, but Rob was right to refuse continuing to pay the wedge that he was to Alan, because Steve's name would not have sold in the required numbers.

Kudos to Liefeld for paying the artists and writers so well in a comics industry that has historically shafted them. That's what happens when a comics fan gets to hire his heroes. 👍

The first con-artst was the first shaman/wizard/healer/storyteller. Thats one of the things the Alan Moore novel "Voice of the Fire" is all about. Sure, it's a con so we dont have go out and hunt like the rest of the tribe (which increases potential lonegevity). But it doesn't make the magic/spells/potions/incantations any less real. What matters most is whether or not it works, not how much of it is kayfabe.
Art in and of itself is kayfabe wizardry. You're creating a world with buildings and characters etc, but really it's all a trick. It's nothing but ink on paper. So once you realize this, the question isn't about authenticity. The question is "How much can I get away with?" Or as Wally Wood said,"Why draw what you can trace?"

Rob could have been a stand-up comedian. He's got the attitude, the sense of absurdity, the sense of irony, the willingness to push the envelope, and even a gift for impressions. That's all you need. He's done pretty well for himself in comics though.😉🤠

That's when the interview is going well: the journalists don't even need to ask any questions. They just get the subject rolling and the information just opens up full bore. I have to say, I've not heard Rob Liefeld before, but his enthusiasm and energy just explode off the screen. Great storyteller, which is certainly essential to comic book production. Thanks for sharing this video. I'll have to catch the rest of it soon.

I wonder if leifeld knows who Steve Moore is at this point. When Alan Moore said Steve Moore taught him everything he knows he's partly taking about the Future Shocks from 2000 AD . Steve Moore started that format. He actually did do alot of good work for British comics at the time. Rob Leifeld just hadn't read any of it. Alan Moore was just trying to help his friend break into the US side of things im sure. Should've gone through with it. He still would've been able to say written by Alan Moore on the book. Just makes no sense to me.

I'll testify -- it's totally worth tracking down. But the thing is, you gotta get the individual issues. The collections are infamously horrible. They look like your buddy printed em out on the color copier at work and snuck them home. But chasing down those issues is *totally* worth it.

Crude and uneven as it was at either end, I prefer the Awesome books by Moore to the polished ABC superheroes. The books have the energy and momentum of an artist finding a new approach. I hope we get to see you guys and maybe Tom do some coverage on Supreme and Judgement Day.

There was at least one trade released. It collected Moore's first year on the book. Unfortunately, it is a horribly produced book. Unbelievably bad reproduction. And out of print to boot! :( Gotta track down those individual issues. It's worth it!

Steve Moore is an actually writer. He might just hadn't broken into the U.S. yet. Hes one of the really great British creators that all worked on Doctory Who weekly, 2000 AD. don't know if he worked on marvel UK and pretty sure he wrote in Warrior magazine

Steven Moore, not his neighbor, but his oldest friend -- though Alan may have said he was his neighbor for some reason.
Moore was a good comic writer, but -- yes -- he never had a magnum opus. Of his published works, the strongest is probably his novel, Somnium, followed by his non-fiction tome Selene: The Moon Goddess and the Cave Oracle.
Steve could have been a very good writer for Rob. But, yeah, not quite Alan Moore and definitely without the Alan Moore marquee value.

    • @markmanhetherington1
