I was just wondering…what is the story with some of those enemies? I remember being 5 or 6 and playing the NES version and being in a confused state of awe at how literally no two enemies looked alike. That kind of thing really stands out when most games at the time would consist of enemies being different only because it was the same sprite but with a different color.
@@ajhproductions2347 A lot of the enemies here are inspired by Persian, SIlk Road, and Central Asian mythology. Sogdiana, Gandhara, all the kingdoms that were Buddhist and Zoroastrian

Absolutely inspired by Central Asia and the former Soviet Republics like Tajikistan that were once part of the Persian world. The scenery is Persian, the dragons and firebirds look Persian....
Back in 1989-ish I could beat this game on a single quarter. I worked at a pizza shop, and I spent all my money on whatever video game they had at the time. I used to have a photo of my name on the credits-screen with a score of all 9's, filling every score slot. Ditto for Space Harrier and Contra. A single quarter. Ahh, those were the days..

@@ericbeasley6322 Thank you for sharing. I miss those days, when arcade games, to my childhood mind, seemed to contain unlimited depth and possibilities. Only as an adult did I come to find out that many of those games could be completed in 10-20 minutes.
Within all that treasure, Karnov finds a magic lamp and releases the beautiful genie inside. One thing leads to another... and a half-genie hero is born.
What a game I remember this in the arvadebi b used to go to. thanks for the video this brought back memories of my mom cheering me on and I needed that cz I lost my mom four months ago
I thought you literally had to be God to beat this game. Harder than peeling an apple with a Mars bar. Even with an emulator and save states...... incredible skills!
this is one of my all time fave games. played it for the nes as a youth but now discovered it's for the arcade too. played it for a week straight and finally beat it today. how is that end guy the easiest guy in the game??? true classic.
Not sure if I have mentioned this earlier already - but this has to be one the most weirdest games ever made. I managed to play this through as a kid on my beloved C-128 (on C64 mode obviously). Literally everything is continuously shooting at you. Even underwater weeds. Evil!
Im curious how in the fuck did Babylon fall? They had Skeletal riders of Ostrichs, Goblins, Golems, Jihns, Gargyoles.... how the fuck did their Empire fall?
I played through this game a few years ago. The arcade version, same as shown here. Freakshow fuckin game. Without powerups the checkpoints often do not even make sense. Bosses literally multiply as you move. It was tough to figure out at points. The nes one took me 4 hours to beat as an adult. This game took me days of on and off attempts. Pretty insane game.
Respect to anyone completing these classics, especially the super hard ones like Karnov. Those days were cruel and designed to keep you putting in 10p hoping you would master the intricacies of the enemy locations and how to stay alive. Many like this game would have no energy bar just straight death meaning you would have to die what felt like 1000's of times to learn and develop the responses to pass the level. Many of these games robbed me of my dinner/pocket money meaning I would have to go home hungry but I personally wouldn't have it any other way as the memories will last me a lifetime.
I agree from what I heard it never got much hype at the arcades after 1987 most arcades pulled karnov from there inventory and added another double dragon or bad dudes due to higher demand of popularity I miss the 80 s I had so much fun at the arcades
How does the final wizard boss die so easily? Back in the day we could not defeat that SOB no matter what we tried. He dies in like ten seconds in this vid!
I love it how it’s the same music the entire time. Also, something about that tune that just sticks in your head.... know what I mean? Are you hearing it right now? MAKE IT STOP!
I read that your site uses save states to put these games together. Is that true? If so what software is used to edit the clips together and remove the text that says state loaded and things like that? I know some emulators will put successful states together so its fluid. I would much rather see games legitimately beaten , including deaths. Most of your videos are no death runs, which I find hard to believe that so many people are mastering hundreds of these games death free.
Hey, would you mind trying to beat the Data East arcade game Chanbara. I have it on a mame emulator. I think the game is amazing, possibly among the top old arcade games, even among each of the Donkey Kong games, but I can't seem to get passed the third level. I've read that it was a pretty rare release, and it was only available in Japan, so maybe it doesn't get the attention it deserves. The controls are a bit difficult to understand at first. The player uses the joystick to swing the sword, and the two buttons let you either jump or change between the two plains, lower and higher ground. Karnov is very difficult, so maybe you can give it a try. There's no playthrough videos online, expect for a person getting to the second level, which I've gotten to the third. I hardly ever record my games though, except on PS4 and Xbox One consoles.
I used to play this game a lot at the local arcade but I could never beat the final boss, I thought it was cheap how you lost your shot power to fight him. Years later I found the game again and beat the boss same day.
Karnov actually is a paid actor run of money, in his own game he can shoot, but in bad dudes he nearly like a normal human, I think he play his role to play movie in his own game titled Karnov, but after no more money he hired by dragon ninja to kill bad dudes and fail

Yup I agree the arcade was super hard I could never get pass the second level most people would never play this at the arcades due to its difficulty plus it used way to many items i could never understand how to use most of the items the nes version was much easier
Some of the weirdest enemies ever created for a video game. I love it. Love the color pallet and backgrounds. They did a really great job.

Why isn't this gem in the Nintendo Switch yet? 😢
So collecting 50 K's gives you another Karnov. So essentially, one Karnov is about equal to the cost of a fancy car.

The american version, specifically.
If you mean the Famicom version, then yes. The Nes version of the ending is lame.
