Explorers of Ixalan actually had like half a dozen new arts! There was also Merfolk Sovereign, Mass Mutiny, Prey Upon, and the ETBT trilands for Crumbling Necropolis and Jungle Shrine.
The token round was a very smart bit of trivia! Draws on an interesting chunk of memory, and giving the set as part of the token helps dig deeper for those obscure cards
The circle of confinement second ability was actually relevant in one of the last few standards thanks to the prevalence of both bloodtithe harvester and circle of confinement as removal in white based enchantment decks.
as our group's resident infect player, i got FAR too excited that i immediately knew Relic Putrescence. oh man, dropping that on someone's turn one Sol Ring on turn 2? the best feeling in magic.
omg i love the kels rep!! she's my favorite underplayed commander, i've had her ever since jumpstart released and dimir aristocrats is a very fun list to play. nadir kraken for life 🐙
The tension between making a correction and waiting for an on-screen individual (host, player, etc) to make that correction must be a very difficult balancing game for Paul
I always love these episodes. I was listening to podcast, and thought it might be fun if, for the section that uses the art as a clue, the "host" tries to describe the art to the audience.
holy carp the instant I saw the dinosaur cat art I *immediately* went to see if I could buy a print or t-shirt or something. there is a version of it with the MTG logo on t-shirts and tote bags on Amazon, if anybody else needs one! (mine's in the mail now)
I am an absolute scrub when it comes to rulings so take this with some salt, but I assume the token has no X for power toughness because nothing on the card determines it's X value, but * is just generally used for variable power toughness values so they just stick with that?
On the thing about the tokens having their P/T being Star/Star instead of X/X, I look through every token with P/T being X/X and apparently X/X doesn't appear on the P/T line ever, instead it's just Star/Star with the card that creates the token having the text of "Create an X/X token where X is..."
So I think I know the difference between X/X and */*. The symbol X must be used in the card text, but * is never stated in the card text. For example: "X... where X is" vs "With power equal to..."
I should have gotten trudge garden! I won a game of commander off the back of dumping basically all my mana into that card every turn, it’s particularly gross with the great henge.
@@bwheelermtg I genuinely appreciate you responding and explaining your thoughts. It makes sense to me and I definitely agree with the latter point. Might have to revisit it regarding its flavor, mostly since I end up (accidentally) ignoring some parts of it
Oracle en vec into stonehorn dignitary is a potential wrath combo, but it's ultra jank haha. I play this one in an orzhov combat politics EDH deck based on the strixhaven precon.
not pauper but glyph of destruction + life's legacy seems like it would be hilarious to do. unfortunately i forgot it's actually a sorcery. but the technology is there for this niche and stupid combo
Benjamin Wheeler is truly a mythical creature from some sort of abyss that contains the consciousness of magic designers or some shit
I lost it when Wheeler started playing charades
Lost what? The game?
genuinely couldnt get the card name bc ive only ever refered to it as biting helix
I'm partial to the North 100 (I think) nickname "Masquerade Ball Lightning" personally so I also had no idea what this card is actually called
I'm a boat! I'm... moored! Hungry for more!
Explorers of Ixalan actually had like half a dozen new arts! There was also Merfolk Sovereign, Mass Mutiny, Prey Upon, and the ETBT trilands for Crumbling Necropolis and Jungle Shrine.
Thank you for having me. it's great to be here.
love that both wheeler and nelly do not care tro make a fool of themselves.
The token round was a very smart bit of trivia! Draws on an interesting chunk of memory, and giving the set as part of the token helps dig deeper for those obscure cards
from a person with a lot of them, that blatant thievery no-scope is truly wheeler's finest moment

This is my favorite format haha. The one episode where Cameron flexed his litteracy was awesome.
What episode was it

Heck yeah, TTC is the gift that keeps on giving all year round lol
"It gets played in Hapatra." I have been summoned, hi yes hello.
omg i love the kels rep!! she's my favorite underplayed commander, i've had her ever since jumpstart released and dimir aristocrats is a very fun list to play. nadir kraken for life 🐙

For a sub-sub segment (ie a recurring bit for the stump the experts)... X with set mechanic (bear, phoenix, fight spell, combat trick etc...)
holy carp the instant I saw the dinosaur cat art I *immediately* went to see if I could buy a print or t-shirt or something. there is a version of it with the MTG logo on t-shirts and tote bags on Amazon, if anybody else needs one! (mine's in the mail now)
Maybe I'm just too early, but as of 10:26am PST September 19th, TTC Nicknames is still in submission mode, not voting yet!
I am an absolute scrub when it comes to rulings so take this with some salt, but I assume the token has no X for power toughness because nothing on the card determines it's X value, but * is just generally used for variable power toughness values so they just stick with that?
As soon as they mentioned unique token creators, I knew my boy Ferrous Rokiric was gonna be included! Love my dumb Boros buddy Commander deck,
So much good LRR MTG content all the time. Loving it.
On the thing about the tokens having their P/T being Star/Star instead of X/X, I look through every token with P/T being X/X and apparently X/X doesn't appear on the P/T line ever, instead it's just Star/Star with the card that creates the token having the text of "Create an X/X token where X is..."
Even crazier about the Questing Beast guess, Nelly guessed the number of cards in Eldraine! QB is 171/269.
Arguably my favorite TTC segment!
Holy crap, you guys really do know your cards. Very impressive, hah.
So I think I know the difference between X/X and */*. The symbol X must be used in the card text, but * is never stated in the card text.
For example: "X... where X is" vs "With power equal to..."
I'm happy to count myself an expert because every single one of these stumped me!
.. what do you mean that's not how this works
Content engaged
Great episode, especially loved Wheelers charades!
Love Stump the Experts. Would love some Pro Tour players or MtG Hall of Famers to come on for an episode like this.
Whoa whoa whoa Inniaz is my favorite brawl commander on arena
I built a lovely willbreaker and unnatural selection deck with him love that commander
I like this format. More Stump the experts!. Also, more charades.
Next Fam Jam, MTG pictionary and charades!!!!
Gavi nest warden is the deck fierce guardianship comes from.
Oracle en-Vec seems like a really "Gotcha" card in Commander... imagine having to remember things past 3 turns
I would really like to see Wheeler play Explorers on a FNPF now
I should have gotten trudge garden! I won a game of commander off the back of dumping basically all my mana into that card every turn, it’s particularly gross with the great henge.
I would kill for more Wheeler charades
I am speed and go into the nicknames before I could even vote....I am vibrating with energy to participate.
Engagement for the engagement god!
I wonder why Wheeler hates Theros Beyond Death. Curious about his thoughts regarding that
I don't think it really delivers on the flavour, and it introduced Thassa's Oracle, Underworld Breach, Uro, etc
@@bwheelermtg I genuinely appreciate you responding and explaining your thoughts. It makes sense to me and I definitely agree with the latter point. Might have to revisit it regarding its flavor, mostly since I end up (accidentally) ignoring some parts of it
Now time to tell you how I did
I knew al...almost one of these cards. I was close but forgot flash on the one.
Regardless. Engagement!
i personally am still awaiting the return of "the eyes have it"
An easier STE would be fun for next time, just because I like seeing these guys rattle off a card perfectly from 25 years ago.
14:40 B.Wheeler: Flyer
14:57 Graham: It also has Flying. No one mentioned that it has Flying.
😅
Someone in Victoria, start playing new art Zealous Persecution every week until they ranch Wheeler with it please
Fun fact: Oracle en-Vec is actually Urza in disguise.
KIRKLAND BRAND WHEELER HAS VISIBLE EYES
Oracle en vec into stonehorn dignitary is a potential wrath combo, but it's ultra jank haha.
I play this one in an orzhov combat politics EDH deck based on the strixhaven precon.
I'm awed that they can get the card from a token
Has anyone tried to do something with glyph of destruction + fling in pauper? It's legal.
(printed text specifies blocking creature)
not pauper but glyph of destruction + life's legacy seems like it would be hilarious to do. unfortunately i forgot it's actually a sorcery. but the technology is there for this niche and stupid combo
2:32 I think the word you're looking for is "unbiased"
This might be the best intro for this show we've had in a long while. Getting meta with it, are we?
Graham looks good!
I see Nelson and Wheeler and I snap play like and am already subscribed but would do again if not!
Anyone know why Wheeler so strongly disliked Theros: Beyond Death?
Oh no I missed the call for submissions for nicknames, next time!
I’m so proud I got blatant thievery for the same reason wheeler did 🤣
I place one comment facedown in defense mode, activating Engagement, and end my turn.
i did not get a lot but what i got they had a hard time with
Very fun!
Show us some Paul next time! I wanna see if he shaved again.
This show is the only reason wotc should continue to release too many new cards each year.
