I love that version of Curiosity, because it’s depicting Mirri deciding to follow Crovax, who throws her over the side of The Weatherlight to her death. So it’s a Vorthos pun, because Curiosity kills the cat.
Suggestion: something that adds scryfall's art tagging. E.g., "these are all cards where the artwork depicts something with wings but the creature can't fly."
@@1notdeadfred hmm it'd be fun to think of how to characterize should/shouldn't have reach, using scryfall tagger. one easy way is with a bow and arrow (especially since that's how arena does it). Seems bow-and-arrow creatures usually have reach, first strike, or tap to deal damage. So if we exclude all those with this scryfall search: art:bow-arrow t:creature -o:reach -o:"first strike" -o:deals Then we get some nice ones, like Defiant Elf (bow = trample??), Nylea's Disciple, Thornbow Archer (it shoots the opponent???)
I think it would be fun to give more open ended questions. Like Nelson, tell me everything about a non equipment artifact from original Theros. Or name a non changeling weasel.
I love that the card Nelson thinks of, to describe the very first card, is from Invasion. Invasion being one of the sets Nelson did not want to have to answer questions about.
Nelson is correct, the capital H of Goudy Mediaeval doesn’t have the top right section so it looks lowercase, but it’s a different character (see: Hearth Charm)
I actually love Sunstrike Legionnaire - it's kinda sneaky though, the most important line of text is the untap clause, because it lets it go infinite with cards like Presence of Gond. midnight guard has the same effect and is pauper legal, but this costs 2 mana and has other utility!
I feel like the next one should make Wheeler answer only about cards that Shivam Bhatt has gone on record as saying 'is one of his favorite cards' and Nelson's categories should revolve around crap from New Capenna commander that nobody can seem to remember exists.
Nelson was thinking of the "Flailing" cycle of creatues in masques block, specifically Flailing Ogre, which reads Flailing Ogre 2R Creature - Ogre {1}: Flailing Ogre gets +1/+1 until end of turn. Any player may activate this ability. {1}: Flailing Ogre gets -1/-1 until end of turn. Any player may activate this ability. 3/3
Some fun facts around EXO: It was the first set to feature coloured set symbols, had some experimental foil cards that accidentally got into circulation two sets before they would be actually established (foil City of Traitors are 5 figure!) and the set symbol was larger than intended for its English print run only.
My suggestion for stump the experts would be a Legendary Sorcery round. They're sorceries that can only be cast if you have a legendary creature or planeswalker on board, and there's only a handful of them.
I think I mentioned this in a previous TTC episode discord thread, but using scryfall to play a game of higher or lower could be interesting. For example, just how james punched in "lightning" and removed all the red cards, there were four cards that fit the bill. So now imagine other funny search topics. Such as, how many creature type "birds" are there without flying? Or there are 73 returns when you search the name "charm" in scryfall. Is the number of hits you'd get by searching the name "command" higher or lower than 73?
Those wolverines are bigger than a bear or an elephant, I understand their confusion. I like how the goblin assassin looks really cool, but you can see he is stepping on his cloak so he is about to trip.
I love that Wheeler was like I don't know why Legions boxes are so expensive and then proceeded to state throughout, the foil of this is really nice! lol The foils are why the box is expensive. haha the foil seedborn alone is just wow.
I love how they call goblin assassin terrible, meanwhile it is stupidly funny in a goblin deck - both commander, and I have even played it in legacy goblins.
Certainly doing categories based on Creature or card types could be good. Also, some ideas: Bonus sheet cards. Commander Precon creations. Color-shifted cards. (All non-Green fogs, all non-Blue counter spells, etc.) Legendary noncreatures. Nonbasic Lands.
Maybe for the weird round try including cards originally from the pre-2020 commander decks(, CMD and C13 to C19). Aside from the famous ones I think those might pose an equal challenge for our experts.
Suggestion: Pick and show a specific token and the question is which card(s) make(s) it. and / or Suggestion: read a card and ask what is the errata of this card (oracle text) or misprint part. Easy examples are all companions or the korean version of ashiok, nightmare weaver.
Goblin Assassin is a Krenko all star, miserable to play against as with 10 goblins entering the BF the board clears every turn instead for the Krenko player
Stumbling upon this today, I wonder if there's someone who's watched this format for years but never got that the name is a Dance Dance Revolution reference.
mirridon foils are amazing i only have one and it’s a beautiful mountain that i got from the only pack of mirridon i ever opened because it was like $30
One of the future rounds should be cards from draftable sets not in draft boosters. Whether it’s buy a box promos, set adjacent jumpstart cards, theme booster cards, set booster exclusive cards, etc. An example would be contest of claws from LCI, not in the draft packs or the commander decks.
Suggestion for the next one: One round where Nelson gets whatever card. But Wheeler gets the card name in German as pronounced by James with no guidance. Call it the Karte Blanch or something
nooo, the weird round needs to be weirder. put the one of in existence cards in it like the 1996 world champion, more of the physical vanguard cards. could do a round of cards with the word box in their name, there's only 12 and could narrow to an interesting subset.
I love that version of Curiosity, because it’s depicting Mirri deciding to follow Crovax, who throws her over the side of The Weatherlight to her death. So it’s a Vorthos pun, because Curiosity kills the cat.
And It's great how Keen Sense depicts an alternate version of the same events.
..... That is incredible.
I love how Wheeler described every mechanical element of the card but James knew to wait for him to name the artist too.
Suggestion: something that adds scryfall's art tagging. E.g., "these are all cards where the artwork depicts something with wings but the creature can't fly."

How about "Creatures that have reach and shouldn't" or "don't have reach but should"

Weird round with creature type "Weird" is an idea for a future game--there are 14 on Scryfall
Excellent, as always. Thank you!
Lightning Greaves: “What set?”
“Lots of them!” 😂

Point Totals:
Nelson - Half and a Half
Wheeler - Hundroog.9999999...
I loved the schemes bit, I do enjoy the rare occasion wheeler gets thrown for a loop. Also the boys both competing to say the graves first lol
Thank me for having you, it's here to be great
The weird round was hilarious for no reason other than wheeler being so flabbergasted that you expected him to know what these cards do
Nelson is correct, the capital H of Goudy Mediaeval doesn’t have the top right section so it looks lowercase, but it’s a different character (see: Hearth Charm)
You have no idea how happy I was when james said Schemes. I got it wrong obviously but god I'm hopelessly in love with the highs of the format.
in the club straight up setting it into motion. and by it lets just say.. haha.. my cunning masterstroke
What a cunning stunt that is!
EDSC and Stump the Experts on the same day? We truly are all blessed to be here, thank you for having us.

More of the weird round please! I love the Archenemy cards!
Stump the experts is always a blast

Can't unremember Masques mechanics, even if I wanted to

James did an awesome job with the really inventive categories this time around. Love this series.
Pretty sure Academy at Tolaria West is referencing Tolarian Winds.
James was a good host, all the weird categories were fun!
My suggestion for stump the experts would be a Legendary Sorcery round. They're sorceries that can only be cast if you have a legendary creature or planeswalker on board, and there's only a handful of them.

It's great to be having me, thank you for being here.
one of my favorite episode types y'all do! really liked the lightning round
I was just lookign for old Stump the Experts to watch and pleasantly found this
Those wolverines are bigger than a bear or an elephant, I understand their confusion.
I like how the goblin assassin looks really cool, but you can see he is stepping on his cloak so he is about to trip.
It's 3 wolverines, plural.
@@Mordalon So, an individual wolverine would be 1.3/1.3
@@estebanrodriguez5409 Bloodhaze Wolverine is a Piker so that tracks.
Thank you for having me, it's great to be here.
I think commander precon originals would be a good round or even episode of stump the experts
You gotta know Sunstrike Legionnaire. Combo King with Presence of Gond.
Thank you for greating me, it's be having here.
I expected the weird round to do what he did with the lightning round. Just creature type weird.
I love that Wheeler was like I don't know why Legions boxes are so expensive and then proceeded to state throughout, the foil of this is really nice! lol The foils are why the box is expensive. haha the foil seedborn alone is just wow.
Weird rounds were bad, everyhting else was great. Thank you James!
I love how they call goblin assassin terrible, meanwhile it is stupidly funny in a goblin deck - both commander, and I have even played it in legacy goblins.
Nelson has such good card knowledge but he's stuck with Yugi Muton in the other seat; my heart goes out to him.
never been this early been loving the content for years can't wait for Friday nights to be back
Certainly doing categories based on Creature or card types could be good.

I enjoyed them collaborating to remember Lightning Coils
Delightful as always!
nelly and wheeler are wonderful people. they have great chemistry too.
Nelly was thinking of Flailing Soldier and some other MMQ cards.

That 2nd round was content gold!
One Hundroog points was so good!
"JAMES!!!
Lead this episode!" - Ben Wheeler
mirridon foils are amazing i only have one and it’s a beautiful mountain that i got from the only pack of mirridon i ever opened because it was like $30
How about asking for meld cards in the weird portion.
Love these episodes.

This was awesome 😂
What is the over/under on a box of Legions just showing up in Mail Time?
Withered Wretch's hands are doing the Thriller swing arms and walk side to side pose, they aren't just limply palms open toward the sky. Tsk tsk. lol
dying at the Lightning Round
this was a great episode.
Wait... the Schemes are worth money? I should probably look at the ones I have...
The reason boxes of Legions are so expensive is because the prices spiked when Summon the Pack was printed and never came down.
Pretty sure Tolaria West isn't the Tolarian Academy that Barrin blew up 🤔
Suggestion for the next one:
One round where Nelson gets whatever card. But Wheeler gets the card name in German as pronounced by James with no guidance.
Call it the Karte Blanch or something
I'm disappointed that James went with the *far* inferior mtgo avatars as opposed to the paper ones :P
Art questions. I think that was a round once.
RIP the GOAT Howie Schwab
RIICHI MAHJONG MENTIONED WHERE MY GANG AT 🀄️
For a Lightning round equivalent, I would suggest something that references Water or Ice, but remove the blue cards.
Comments for the comment god, words for the algortihm throne!

Goblin assasin could actually be amazing in my krenko deck, but i dont think anyone wants to deal with that many flips...
Withering Wretch is a GOOD crime committer
PLEASE draft triple legions, I need to see how many gempalms a person can get
I’d say draft triple prophecy but rip to that with rhystic at common
Maybe next time you could do a pro tour winner round where you find filler cards from pro tour winning decks over the years…
James: I'm pretty sure we've done a Legions draft in Moonbase Mk3 before. We even streamed some of the games. It was an overwhelmingly mediocre draft.
my answer to all cards with izzet in their name is no.
…First?
I was half expecting the "weird round" would be exclusively cards with the weird creature type. Kinda disappointed tbh
Feel like this needs to go back to random on scryfall
