I remember my mom slapped my face one morning before school because I was listening to this too loud. Now here I am, 20 years later listening to it loudly before work. I'm so glad I got to live through this era. I will never forget growing up watching Nirvana, Green Day, Smashing Pumpkins, Foo Fighters and so much more take over the music scene. It was epic and I got to see it live.
30 years later you mean?
And How is your mother?
haha my dad broke my Dookie CD because he read the lyrics in the booklet. I was 13. Now im 39
It was a great era and Green Day put out an incredible album with dookie.
@@frankgrimes7388 not true there kiddo. This was a bit before that started. Don't be a hater there dum dum
Billie is higher than the music quality
i think a tylenol would do that
It's fine, just don't let him drum.

Everyone was blasted out of their mind on speed and this is still one of if not their greatest performances. Certainly the best with this song lineup. She was extra special.
Yeah BJA looks geeked 🤣
You worried?
How do some people say green day ain’t punk? They clearly are especially they’re older stuff.
Idk man it’s honestly all because Green Day signed to a major record label back during the Dookie days. People considered them punk up until they went from lookout records (small label) to reprise records (major label). So when they went to a major record label, people started calling them sell outs and not punk anymore.. Idk it all doesn’t make much sense to me.
@@NovacaineRebelxx you're right man, punk rock bands don't sign to major label's. They're looked at as sellouts if they do, but hey you gotta make a living somehow and how the hell are they meant to make and release music if they're broke? so I idk man I never really understood the whole sellout thing. Like do they want to hear their music or not 😂😂
Also most of people that say that have never watched them live only herd radio and studio cuts green day is best enjoyed live
@@NovacaineRebelxx The Sex Pistols were signed to a major label, and they practically invented the genre (or at least brought it to world-wide attention), yet no one calls them sell outs. Really doesn't make sense to say Green Day sold out by signing to a major label. Plus Lookout was really struggling to shift enough copies of Keplunk and keep up with demand for the record. Green Day had no choice ultimately.
@@codyharten121 saw them live for first time last night and I would trade that show for this show any day. Its just not the same the way they are now.
As someone who remembers the original airing in '94, this is incredible to see. Everything from the pre-show mosh, and the raw banter in between songs, I never knew how much extra footage existed.
This isn't even all of it! This is just the live concert reel. They had short interviews with people about what they thought of the show, footage from outside the venue, a lot of which you see clips of during the opening and credits of the final broadcast.
@@ABCo-ABMedia The Interviews of the audience were in other video of the show.
@@retrocysper3709 Yeah I know they're in the TV version, I mean I _literally_ said "a lot of which you can see clips of during the opening and credits of the final broadcast".
But it's obviously only going to be a sub-set, therefore it is "extra footage" too.
I wasn't saying we don't have some of it, I was just saying that there was technically even more footage than this
I mean fuck, they played extra songs. How come they didnt air dissapearing boy its such a good track i fucking love that song.
@@s-dew Venturing a guess, I'd say that MTV only allotted them an hour of airtime. The broadcast performance clocks at about 45 minutes which would equal an hour with commercials. At least in '94, there was some solace in that whatever they were making time for after was probably at least halfway decent.
Their first 3 albums were just so fantastic
Yes
Going to pasalacqua, welcome to paradise (on kerplunk), and she are my top 3 from those albums
And are 3 of my fav songs just in general
All their stuff from the 90s and early 2000s was golden.
Insomniac and Nimrod were also both really great albums from them in the 90’s as well.
I've been watching this show since my early teenage years and now I discovered it was incomplete!!! holy shit it's like discovering money in your couch
It's like discovering meth in your pocket*
FTFY
Me too !!!!

Same here man
Wish I could go back in time and be at this show. What energy! I saw them in a smallish venue and they never mail it in, but the crowd here is insane!!!!
MTV should be ashamed of how they cut out The final chorus For Paper Lanterns!
They should be ashamed, period!
@@sergiotaki9 Of course it's easy to forget that if it weren't for MTV this video literally would not exist period, but you know, we'll look past that and focus on the "how dare they cut content out of their own media"
I'm just kidding by the way, I don't mean for this comment to be taken seriously :P
Have you seem mrv lately its just asses and dongs nowadays no music at all.
Mike Dirnt is such a fucking incredible bass player. It's almost like he plays lead guitar and bass at the same time, while Billie plays rythym

I was 19 years old when Green Day exploded in the rock scene with Dookie. At the time, I was more into alternative and heavier rock but I was impressed by Billie Joe's crazy head shaking and irreverent presence. Now twenty eight years later, I'm revisiting their older stuff and soaking in their amazing energy and songs. And funnily enough, hipsters in Montreal today dress exactly like BJ did in 1994. Long live Punk!
I’m only 13 and got into green day a few months ago and I’m loving it so much I bought a guitar
@@ttvloocid_4368 keep it up! I was just thinking how empty the rock scene is now compared to the 1990s and 2000s. Im discovering The Linda Lindas and loving them. They are the same age as you, check them out!

Thank the sound engineer for that
God damn I love this performance so much, the old school punk sound that Green Day gave off back then was truly amazing. I still love them to this day, even with their newer stuff, but these older days are awesome.
Those kids are now in their 40's and 50's. I'm one of them.
43's here :P

Back in my teenage years (Im 33 now) I was a huge Green Day fan, - I had and unofficial live CD from this concert, my friend found in a small CDstore in Copenhagen, he bought it to me. The CD only had the MTV 45 min in it, back then I wished they had kept all the talking between songs, because I knew it was there - its funny to see and hear it so many years after. And surprising to see they played Knowledge and Disappearing Boy!
I just reached 33. I am a big Green Day fan too. :)
Dam i wonder how Mike Dirnt spine is doing being the backbone of this band for 35 years
I'm 23 years old, I just graduated from college. College was a mental health struggle that took 5 years, now I'm broke, unemployed, and living with my parents. No company is hiring. My grandpa died a couple of days ago. My only release is blasting this concert on repeat and thrashing around my room to it. "Call me pathetic, call me what you will."
we all have problems. act accordingly.
Stop cooming for a sec and learn guitar
You can always go to help the Ukrainian
To be that geeked and still remember most of the words to multiple songs is extraordinary
its a sign of how well practaced they are,
normally at that point someone would be speedrunning through childhood memories in great detail while utterly in the dark about how they got where they are in the first place
"SHE" is unmatched here. Such a good job. OK bye
What a setlist...to start with "going to pasalacqua" and finish with "she" is a nice choice! Probably the best period to see them on stage...
"bye" is the best fucking ending call too❤
I was 6 when my brother had the video cassette of this and I recall so vividly Billie's erratic Big wheel rant.
My brother has since passed and it's really nostalgic to watch this again. Thank you very much for sharing this. I've looked for a long time for that skit and tada.
You're appreciated 💙

God bless you Mr. Bergqvist you're one of the few heroes left on earth for providing all of us with this fab version of the best Green Day concert ever recorded. You're a fucking legend for this!
One of Green Day's best concert performances ever.

This is truly full concert. Thanks
sadly missing the sound check :( not full concert
@@asthenasia Sorry to inform you: soundcheck is not part of a concert, technically speaking (or of any concert, for that matter... and yes, I'm aware that there's video available of the sound check, but it's correct to be separate from this). He (probably) said "full concert" because this one is way more complete than the one MTV released in '94: it has a couple more songs (Knowledge and Disappearing Boy), also like, "Paper Lanterns" is not cut-out (also, no Spin mag being burn) and it doesn't have any bleeping over all of Billie Joe's cursing, so there ya go.
I have a clear memory of making my dad stay up to tape the MTV special of this show. Seeing the full thing is amazing!
This was one of the best concerts I ever saw. If I could relieve one day this would be right up at the top.
So cool to see the uncut version! Did'nt realize I've been seeing an edited AF version untill now, I've been fooled! :P Thanks a lot!! :D
Oh my god, just wow.. thanks so much for uploading!! 👌🙏 I must have watched this a million times back then!
I even remember taping it to vcr from Dutch television somewhere in the winter of '96 after its first broadcast was cancelled (probably because of some soccer match). I always knew some songs were missing. So glad to finally see the original show!! 💚🤘💚

Like it or not, this is the music that shaped a whole fucking generation...
Never heard of Green Day prior to seeing this in 94 on TV. Turned Rage on right at the start of the concert, was addicted instantly and ran out the next morning to buy Dookie. Don’t think any band or concert has had that sort of impact on me straight away.
33:13 BJ prepares for she!
You’re right 😂
I remember that in MTV Argentina they played this concert on a saturday night in 95 and i had a Party, set the VCR and when i came back luckily the timing was correct grab the whole show, went crazy for that tape, great show from the first to the last song..
Omg!! Full concert! Thank you so much!! :D
God, I loved this as a kid. Still do. I remember watching this on my bed and being amazed. They influenced so much of my style along with the Beastie Boys. I even did that head twitch that Billie does. nuts
I saw them a couple months before this show. It was probably the best show I’ve ever been to. I wish there was video of it.
It came to me when I was 15 years old. It was like a bomb. It was the front door to many other bands I knew later. Still love this show after 25 years.
Same. This concert made me start my first band..it was the most dope ass thing I had seen at the time in rock n roll

This is amazing. I've only ever seen the MTV aired version. I remember my buddy and I going down to the Aragon that night without tickets and getting a pair off of a scalper for something like $25 each. I'm scouring the crowd for us both, but somehow we just blend in too much amongst all the other flannels and middle hair parts lol.
It's so refreshing seeing them back then trying to make a name for their selves as opposed to more recent, knowing and acting like they are the top dogs of the rock world.
Not a phone in anyone's hand! God I miss those days!

In 1994 I was on the fence about Green Day. Too pop for punk and too punk for pop. This gig really cemented my opinion that they're just a great, tight rock band with catchy songs.

Holy shit! Where did you acquire this footage!? This is amazing! I only knew the edited version (saw it back in '94, when MTV aired it; I was sick and the adrenaline rush when seeing this, made me feel a lot better). Thanks so much for sharing this!
I could watch this every day
I'm so stoked that I came across this video. I recorded this off MTV on a VHS tape (for you younger folks there are these devices called VCR's and you could put a blank tape the size of a shoe inside and record things off TV-LMAO) when I was like 16 years old and watched it so many times that it got to the point to where the tape was so blurry you couldn't watch it anymore. I'm not exaggerating when I say I bet you I have seen this entire concert at least a hundred times. If you're a Green Day fan and haven't seen this immediately drop everything and watch it, this is classic Green Day at its best. I'm not saying I don't like their new stuff because I do but if you're looking for "Wake Me Up When September Ends' you're going to be disappointed this is 39 Smooth/Kerplunk/ Dookie day's, AKA the soundtrack to my childhood!
I kown what a VCR I may be young but I am not stupid
Ah here it is :D
Kinda crazy to think that most of these people showed up after listening to a cassette tape lol this was my brother and sister's generation. I was two when this happened, and they were a bit older. It's probably long gone but I still remember the dookie cassette case laying around the house.
Radio, too, but that also adds to the nostalgia factor.
I was 3 years old at the time but if I could go back in time to any concert it would probably be this one. Everyone in that building was having so much fun
This video had such an impact on me. When I heard they were doing a show in Chicago in 2016 we drove from Toronto to see them play the Aragon Ballroom.
Saw them in Atlanta back then at Lakewood Ampitheater during the Dookie tour. A couple of memories are Billy Jo on stage naked with only his guitar covering him and him running up the lawn hi-five’ing everyone. Great show….
Was 14 at the time and wanted to be there SO FUCKIN BAD. No airports in the swamps of eastern NC, and no money for airfare either. All I could do was watch in amazement.
best live show ever done hands down
Believe it or not, 2000 Lightyears Away sounds fire when you take the guitar away at a random point in the song and then abruptly bring it back. Imagine if the other songs had a point where they did this.
Love it when Billie Joe’s axe gets unplugged…the tension is unreal….BJ just gobs on the guy….doesn’t skip a beat
This never gets old, now I'm 59
Thanks for this video
That crowd looks like a battlefield
Right? It's fuckin dope. Wish concerts were still like this.
He messed up and starts welcome to paradise a fret higher and then the shoe comes flying in and knocks the mic stand over. The shit is so hilarious lolol
I wish I could’ve experience this in real time. I wasn’t even born yet. But awesome to be able to watch this and other old footage so easily.
Hmm. This was not too far off the heels of MTV's Beavis and Butt-Head fire controversy. Aside from having to mute every third word he says, I wonder if that's why the entire Spin magazine segment was cut from the broadcast.
