The list of the best techno album too?

I appreciate how James just seems incredibly amused when he sees "the naked man." Not scared, not pissed off, not confused, just amused.
He was so nonchalant about it lmao!!!
When?
Hahaha😂 oh yes I remember that now oh Angel's in disguise;)
12:11 in case you missed it. I thought it was part of the show. I thought it was bad to the bone!
I miss D'arcy. We all know Corgan is the true genius behind SP, but the original lineup was just so damn cool. D'arcy, she IS the nineties to me. The original four really need to reunite. That would be once concert I'd sleep out for tickets.
my thoughts exactly. d'arcy embodies 90's alternative culture. but all eras aside (as to not pigeonhole the band as a nostalgia group), the original lineup had the vibe of an actual band, each member adding their own character into the mix.
I just hope she's ok, the last thing I heard about her was that weird call she made to a radio back in 09. You could tell drugs affected her deeply... If, I mean when the Pumpkins get in the Hall of Fame, I hope she'll be there :)
Seba Cabré
do u know if there is some recording of that? because i don't know sh*t about what happened apart from some drug problems in general
WatjeBent i know it wasn't directed to me, but it's on youtube. search "d'arcy wretzky interview 2009" and it's up there. quite sad, really. but now d'arcy's fine, i think. i mean, she has her own facebook page, which suggests that she's now retired, working on her farm with her horses, and talking to some fans.
Not so much of an interview, she just calls the radio station, and starts talking about where's she living, her boyfriend that had died not long ago... It's actually a bit sad, at least for me, to hear her like that. I reaaaaaally hope she's living her life happy right now, she deserves it.
what a genuine band man, their sound was definitely unique.
+Kevin Rachman grungegaze
I initially read, "what a genuine bald man"
actually just a few "big" bands fitted in the label "grunge". most of them just share seattle as hometown and the fact that their music was guitar based and full of energy.
the ones that fitted the label were the ones that were created to sell a product
That works as well

This tour was unreal. Live Pumpkins at their prime. This was an unstoppable band. Even with everything that happened, they picked up and kept killing their live show. I'm so lucky I got to see this band as many times as I did.
It's crazy cuz obviously they're a band but back in the 90's it felt like so much more than just a concert. I can't really explain it. There's a certain theatricality to what they were doing without going over the top. This tour was my first concert. I was 12. What a great first show haha.
You say," with everything that happened.." what do you mean? D'arcy and James break up? Or something else?
@@TheSInSurfer When Jimmy was kicked out of the band. They picked up with Matt and were still at the top of their game.
@@pgriffinbaron Ah, Thank you. Now I understand. I appreciate the answer.
@Griffin Baron Plus their keyboardist died from a heroin od after this tour, I was friends with his sister who wrote coffee and starfish for prince and their sister was prince's original guitarist featured in Purple rain.
I LOVE how no one is holding a phone and everyone is enjoying the show!
That's right haha
+Monica Corgan the good old time
are you crazy or moral? don't understand your reponse.........
+Jorge Nuñez lol I disagree. There would be less recording because some bands have more obnoxious fans than others but there would still be a lot of twats recording it.
That's right. But blame on the telephone companies and the technology. :-(
UGH! If this doesn't make one homesick for the 90's... You wasn't there
true
Billy and James were so fucking good together their styles just fit so perfect.
That was a some kind of a one-day-festival on eastern with Sonic Youth, The Afghan Whigs, Cypress Hill and some others - the Pumpkins were headlining.
I remember meeting my nerdy buddy Eric just minutes after the song XYU - not only he was missing his glasses, he always used to wear, he had literally a full footprint on his forehead and was abolutely enlightened while saying:
"Man, that was so awesome..." and he was goddamn´ right.
This was in Germany right?
@@stuartewoldt1513 yes, dude - in Duesseldorf.....
This is how I remember the Mellon Collie show in my little town in 96. One of the greatest nights of my life. All on my own in a seat in the middle, having my life changed forever.
The "naked man" is Dan from the band Chumbawamba. Both bands were playing the festival, and apparently Billy was a jerk to their band. They thought it would be funny to prank them during their performance.
@@dietpepsi9140I heard Billy was a jersey to alot of people. I don't know what pressures he had and some people just react to it
What an amazing drummer.
Hello, i am from the future. Jimmy-my men. It is 2024 now. In three monts I am going in wiena. 24.6.2024 smashing pumpkins live. James jimmy billy and third guitar. Some studio musician, I assume. 1 female singer, she looks like An angel, Probably that was a concept. SP always had female on stage. It is just SP. Full sound. Billy singing mostly midlle register. It is working. They sound better, fuller than other live bands. Billy, genious as he is, find the way how can rock band still sound amazing. So cherish the bands in your time. It wont last. Future is musicless.

How great is James's reaction to the naked guy!
Yeah I thought it was priceless. 😆
WE SALUTE YOU, NAKED MAN

And he loves you too, random citizen.
"Now i'm naked, nothing but an animal": he took that quite literally...
'He's part of their crew. They pay him handsomely.'
Naked man from Chumbawamba
Billy sounds really good here, man. Like probably his best. Zero sounds amazing, holy hell.
Every morning, in 1995 I listened to forgive in my breakfast. It helps me in my fucking day routine. Love this song, love 90's, love smashing pumpkins songs. Miss it all!
Thru the Eyes of Ruby and Porcelina back to back... the essence of the Pumpkins greatness.

Pumpkins will always be the band that comes to mind first when I think of 90's rock. I was 10 the first time I saw the 1979 video. Thanks to my big bro for listening to great music and by association I got to listen to it.
best smashing pumpkins live ever
That performance of Cherub Rock is the best I've ever seen!
I'm so very annoyed that I was born in '92. I'd give anything to see the four of them perform together live. WHAT A BAND!!
I'm 37 and I saw them in 94 or 95 lol I was in lole 4th or 5th grade
@JDawg8733 Lol I remember hearing some of these songs in 1st grade on the radio (6/7 in '96, 34 now). I didn't get the album until I was 15 though but I remember it was the first thing I ever downloaded off of ITunes.
@@twiff3rino28 I guess it's safe to say, I didn't realize and appreciate what I got see at a live concert here in Chicago when I was in like 4th or 5th grade lol it was the Mellon collie album. Came out the next day, mom got it at best buy lol I got a shirt from the concert. Me my brother and my mom. I got bored during the concert. Everyone was standing and I was sitting. Lmfao
@JDawg8733 Dang, that sucks. For me my biggest regret wasn't understanding the meaning of the video for "1979" until I was almost 30. I distinctly remember watching it as the depressed 15 year old I was and thinking, "Those kids are having too much fun, that's not me. WTF Billy... this isn't realistic." It probably struck me more at the time since the kids in the car were actually 15 and 16 when they filmed it, and I was learning to drive. Now, it makes me wish I was friendlier to the (then) kids who went out of their way to be nice to me, instead of being flaky over my own insecurities.
@@twiff3rino28 I hear you on that bro..I can realte In a way. And I'm not saying the concert wasn't good. Just saying at the time I was real young seeing them and I wasn't able to really appreciate what I actually seeing until now. I'm still into the 90s music these days.
Jimmy killed it! Greatest drummer ever. He was the reason I started playing.
Brooklyn *෴* Agreed. I've always been in admiration of his drumming. The way he keeps the hi-hat going to the whole time allows for so many possibilities since he's not having to use one of his drumsticks to keep time. I have yet to see another drummer that plays like that.
Yes! and his rolls and fills are out-standing!!
My lord.. Fuck You (An Ode to No One) is like drum porn lol.

It's actually Today. Not to forgive. Idk why they said that
She definitely sings in To Forgive quite a bit @@JDawg8733
I can’t believe how good this is. There’s not a single sleeper moment throughout this whole concert. From sound, tone, and tightness to song list selection this show is hard to match. The pumpkins are amongst the greatest. Arguably the GOAT.
So hard to watch this. The pumpkins was how I met my future husband. The pumpkins were also my first rock concert ever! Now, I'm divorced and buried by memories. This is what I call-beautiful sadness. 😰
How are you a year later?
Infinate.

I was fortunate to see them on this tour. Blew my socks off.
I'm from Germany and I'm kinda sad that these times are over :') Feel like these kinds of concerts are super rare
I'm from Texas and 100% agree. The 90's which belongs over into the 2000's was the last screaming death of rock music
1996 live in Sydney best show ever!
Had a giant Zeppelin (Hindenburg) going down in flames on back screen during X.Y.U, fantastic
Blessing musicians. What a band. 4 of them made magic. Straight up magic.
12:12 special guest: THE NAKED MAN
have you seen sarah connor?
I literally did not expect that, and I was all like: 😳
What the fuck am I looking at 😂😂😂
Hhahahahhahahah
No joke at a foo or sp concert I recall we had a jump together and we were all getting like 2-3 feet of air somehow like the sub floor or beams were like a trampoline and we were floating way higher than should have been possible, yes drugs, but still way higher jumping than made any sense, looked the same here
still one of my fav bands
Born in 84, been my favourite band since 2001, and finally getting to see them in Dublin in 2024😊 the mix of grunge, metal and real chilled music and the escapism their lyrics, sounds and music in general hit me right in the sweet spot!
stop b..tching about Billy`s voice or Darcy`s bass because it was never about perfection but about the concept that became SENSETIONAL, great, unique in every department, genious of SP and Corgan and the incredible vibe of free-spirited 90s,
I remember seeing this concert in Melbourne ,Australia,Thru The Eyes Of Ruby was my fav song.
The scream at 24:16 is absolutely mesmerizing
The guitar work here is fantastic. So much more enjoyable than crazy metal shredding, but just as heavy. Thru the Eyes of Ruby in particular. Iha is great here.
This is one lucky ass crowd!!! What a beautiful moment captured in time :)
What a great piece of history. I always love how they weave those guitars. So much has changed they dont even make rock bands anymore.
11:48 I've noticed that Chamberlin often looks away from his kit while performing. Probably just a concentration face, but it makes him even cooler. As if that was possible. Such a talented drummer...!
Though Billy's voice is obviously shot in his performance, this is one of the most darkly beautiful, transferential onstage performances I've heard in a while. Would recommend! J in TX
The person posting the song titles is fired!
"Ruby". I cried.
you suck
Why?
Because they are posting the wrong song titles...
The BEST band from the 1990s EVER. such songwriting, so original, love em!!
Thank you for posting this! i remember spending 90 dollars for this on a vhs tape for my xmas present one year. Oh the days of tape traders and no youtube

Muzzle. Perfection ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Despite being a fan for years I had completely overlooked that song. It is so good.
We are seeing them this weekend can't wait with my 2 daughters
Thru the eyes of Ruby! EPIC!
that lineup, at that time, with that setlist - perfection
this show is epic, remeber watching it live on WDR late at night and recording on a tape. fun times
my 2 favs back to back ruby and then porcelina !! love it.
Behold, The best Smashing Pumpkins live performance
I saw them at the Forum in LA in ‘96 during the Mellon Collie tour back in college. Then I saw them again at the forum in 2018. Made me feel old since I needed ear plugs and I was watching the clock the whole time because I had work the next day😢
never getting old, so great.
Best performance of Porcelaina ever!
Andrew Mello I heard a ton of live stuff, and I agree with you!
+Andrew Mello I prefer the Brixton Academy one, cos Billys guitar is louder in the mix, but this one here is f-in epic though!
+Andrew Mello I would also say that for To Forgive and maybe even Thru the Eyes of Ruby
12:10 props to billy for killing the solo without distraction
Bro I don't think he knew. Billy was to focused.
Have always lived and breathed this art like the blood in my veins, have learned there songs the wrong way on instruments that I didn't even know how to play but still sounded true
Saw them on this tour in Louisville with Garbage opening. Ah to remember your youth.. Great times.
Do did l, it was truly epic, Billy Corgan is a bad ass guitarists, if you watch him it's true talent, one of the best l've seen.
as a youth in louisville i am incredibly jealous
Saw them in Texas. Shirley Manson jumping up and down during every song (and I like garbage) but what truly stood out was her chest bouncing up and down. Could've been the pot I smoked, I do remember them being in time
one of the best Mellon lives. God, I can't tell what's more pure bliss...Zero or Ode. The way Billy rips on the guitar during Ode...and Chamberlin is a fucking beast
That version of "Thru the Eyes of Ruby" is awe-inspiring.
Aw man I love to wach Jimmys drumplaying. So gawd damn talented.
Oh my god. So epic. This will always be my favourite band. Billy is such a great guitar player.
I had this as a bootleg vhs in the late 90’s and used to watch it constantly!
When I started watching this video, I didn't guess for a minute that the most kickass jam would be during Thru the Eyes of Ruby
They always played that jam during Ruby on that tour. This particular one isn't actually a good example of it, there are much better versions that they played later in the tour where it was almost like they were dueling guitars. Try ua-cam.com/video/18x6aOU_fZg/v-deo.html or ua-cam.com/video/hBBKxOIlUjw/v-deo.html

I love that little dance they do. You know, where they jerk back from the microphone and thrust their guitars at you with their pelvis. Genius!
I love the Smashing Pumpkins
grew up on this band… 90s kid… and no one sounds like them
This is ridiculously good
The pumpkins have always been my favorite band as well and I'm blessed to have seen the original line up at the 1998 Minneapolis block party. I'll also be seeing the new incarnation on the 20th in St Paul.
What an incredible concert. I wish I was there. Listening to their music helped me through some incredibly dark times in my life and listening to this today is so nostalgic. I saw them in 1998 on the Adore tour in Melbourne, Australia. They were awesome but unfortunately played mostly mello slow songs from the Adore album. I still remember being right up the front close enough to see Billy and James up close. James was so drunk that he didn't come out for the encore, according to Darcy, so they played the encore without him :)
Hahahhahaha. Awesome
I don’t remember him not playing the encore, but I do recall all of us asking for Zero, him saying that the shirt was retired and him busting out into Zero.
Probably one of the rare times he has played a request.
They are so tight here. Loved them in the 90s still love them

The chorus and bridge of 1979 sound so beautiful and dreamy here

Bought this live album many years ago. For me it was the best of all! Now I SAW the concert first time. They were defintely at their peak and brought grunge to a new level!
They’re not grunge, stop it. They’re their own thing.
What a concert!! 😮🤘🏻 Very underrated band, Billy he is just a genius artist.
This shit is perfect. And people shouldn't compare old stuff with new stuff. I've seen Pumpkins last month and they were as perfect as this, different, but same feelings. Don't understimate new band members.
