I love your guys channel and your video was a postive factor in me purchasing the knife. I got the knife today 3/23/2015 and they've since updated it. The sheath now has a locking system so it does not rattle, mine has no rattle at all. Also, mine came with a razor edge vs. the utility described, I was able to shave arm hair out of the box. Looks like Kabars QC has gotten better since this video, possibly because of it, thank you guys for doing a great job and taking pride in what you do.
To help with the sheath rattle, insert a piece of phonebook paper in the sheath. Also, there have been multiple reports of the sheath dulling the edge, so I put phonebook paper in the sheath of my Becker BK13.
I like your videos, Krik. I probably wouldn't be picky about a rattle. A rattle is usually easy to remedy by squishing the plastic under heat, or adding a pad, shim, screw, or rivet. I would be picky about how easy it is to sheath and un-sheath the thing. And I'd be picky about having the just right amount of retention. If the rattle helps make sheathing/un-sheathing a little easier, that's more benefit, than detraction. The Izula or Eskabar style knife is danged interesting.
Love mine, but I have Been using my Tops MIL-SPIE 3 a lot lately. I really like the 154CM, even if it is a little thick for its size. Would like to see you do a review on one.
Sorry to bother but I'm confused,, is the spine 90 degrees? Id like to buy this knife, but id feel alot better spending the money if it was a 90 degree spine
I have the same knife and my sheath is actually pretty great. I mounted mine on a TekLok and carry horizontal in the front, 9 months edc. and still no issues, no worries of losing the knife. I have those same handles too, have no issue w them. However i see a black G10 handle set i may get, just because
my bk 14 is 7" ov. you should try the boker vox rold its d2 ffg it is amazing .it is said to be 60 hardness some say hard to sharpen i had had no problem with that i like its hard steel . it holds edge even after hard use .shaving sharp after hard use . i was looking at your channel for info on the bk 24 because its d2 my new favorite steel so far for knives .cool vid .
Yes, I like using my Tool Sharp, or my Ken Onion Grinders, although both my BK-14's came pretty sharp, I still laugh about it, when I ordered my scales for my BK-14, the scales came with two set's, black, and orange, so I got another BK-14, that's why I have two, one in each color, then I had to get some knives to go with my orange scaled BK-14, I got the O.K.C Afghan and the Ranger 9 with orange G-10 handles, then I got a deal on the Browning Independence CM154 steel 3 1/2", great little knife to complement my O.K.C.'s, a real great wood processing set, the 5160 is great to beat on with wood, tough stuff.
OMG!!! Just take a heat gun and tighten the sheath. I can't believe you spent so much time talking about rattling in the sheath. I have one and it never rattled and still doesn't rattle. Heat it and tighten it, it's really no big deal.
Thanx, good video, and a good reminder of my BK-14, I'm a 3knife carry guy, because the BK-14's are so light, and I carry around my neck, I don't consider it as the 4th knife, although, with the scales on my BK-14, it does add another dimension to the knife, as of yet, I don't have it in D-2, but soon to get one, the BK-14, is my favorite neck knife, and compliments one of my favorite Becker set's, and I have almost a complete set of Becker's with only an exception of 3 knives, I'm able to make 4 set's out of the Becker line, my favorite set is my BK-17, BK-7, and t Ka-Bar Swabbie, the BK-14 as my neck knife, Thanx for a good video.
You like your Beckers, huh? Did you reprofile any of their edges? With all of the KaBar or Beckers I've purchased, I HAD to put a better bevel on each and every one. Thanks for commenting and watching. -Krik
Say Heah Kris, I still laugh how Ka-Bar got me to buy (2) Bk-14's, I bought one, and got two sets of scales a black and orange set, So what am I going to do with a extra set of scales, No regrets though, I matched the orange to one of my Fav. pair of knives, My O. K. C. Ranger DD-9 and my Ranger Afghan both in the 5160, I had a great experience with my RD-9 on one trip, It helped me to buy my Gen2 SP-47, 49, 51, and one of my Fav. Sp-53. BK-14's Rock.
Great Vid. I was disappointed with the handles. I know they were cheap, but I would have paid more for better finish, like having the screws and the nuts flush with the scales. I ended up making my own wood scales. The fit better and the screws and nuts I used are flus mounts. They feel a lot more comfortable. I like the knife very much. Ended up buying a BK14 and a BK11. They are all good after I built wood scales for them. Just finished the BK11. I like it, but I think the BK14 and BK24 are more comfortable because the handles are abut 1/4 " longer.
I like it for a neck knife. I just really want to get a new sheath. I plan to make a leather neck sheath for it, but I need to buy thinner leather first, and that stuff isn't cheap. -Krik
Nice review - as always they are pleasure to watch. armchair quarterbacking a bit - beware ;) ... I must say that the edge angle seems to high to effective shave wood and make feathersticks. I have the ESEE Izula and it makes feathers nicely with a modified grind. I previously owned the Eskabar and Becker Necker too.
I have mora bushcraft orange, it was 30 dollars cheaper than the black, but its features identical, plus the orange has better chances of being found if you misplace it on the forest floor. Also have a mora pro s, it was 12 dollars, and its excellent
***** Idk what it is about the bushcraft black. I kinda preferred that one myself too, but it seems everyone in the world felt that way too, cuz i cant find one for any less than 60 bucks, and some go for 100 depending on the features. Cuz some have dif steel, more tactical sheaths, or fire steel w it. The bushcraft orange is 30 dollars usually no matter what. It was a easy pick w the orange too, cuz my first mora was the 2000 model, i loved it, but it fell off my pack. Ive hunted for thing for two seasons now, even though it was only 22 dollars, and still cant find it.
definitely worth replacing the sheath, its glass reinforced nylon, not plastic so it dulls the blade very badly. i forget the channel name but there have been tests running the blade along this vs kydex and the difference is night and day
Just picked up scales from theknifecenter.com made of g10. They have all kinds of colors. Easy to install and comes with a the hardware, but it's a little more expensive than the ones u have ($36) but TOTALLY worth it. First time getting anything from them but apparently they sell all kinds of goodies. Just an FYI for more scale options.
got the bk 24 d2 steel .it was poorly finished (the spine was rough and not square) it has a warped blade (which bugs the shit out of me) will try taper grinding the handle . I was very disappointed with this buy .
Any way you slice it the sheath just flat out sucks. The rattle is inexcusable, and even if you get one that doesn't rattle it's huge in relation to the knife. The ESEE Izula & Izula II sheath is much better. At first blush I can't see much reason to pick the Eskabar over the Izula. The blade is a little wider if you like that and the point is a little lower; that might be a bit better for use as a drill for stuff like making hearth boards for fire making. I guess the fact that it's D2 steel gives it an edge over the ESEEs. I really wish ESEE had at least a couple of upgrades steel options.
It's a large production knife so you cant get them perfect. If you dont want rattle then buy something that's simi custom like a tops with a kydex sheath.
Yo man great vid I have the eskabar as well and it is a good back up also I really like the tops msk the handle is really small but it's still a great knife and just a heads up at the end you said it was D2 and it not its 1095 just giving you a heads up man "KNIFEJUNKIE13"
The Eskabar is 1095. This is the D'Eskarbar which is uncoated D2. I agree with you, if you could get thicker scales on this knife, it would make it much better. But then again that would add weight. You know? Thanks for watching and commenting. -Krik
I bought custom G10 scales for mine over a year ago. If you or anyone wants some check them out. They have many colors to choose from. theknifeconnection.net/knives-by-maker/becker-knife-and-tool/tkc-g10-handles-en/bk-14-24-g10-handles
Oh okay and no problem man yeah I agree if the handles were thicker it would be more comfortable but add more weight and can take away from the sleek design of a neck knife "KNIFEJUNKIE13"
This shows my problems with the knife, the blade is too long for the handle and makes it so the tip starts the trail back in power cuts, I can easily cut bigger chunks with an izula just based on that power loss alone, and the izula isn't close to my favourite neck knife, the Escobar is waaaaay too thick for its size it's stupid, the izula is too thick but the Becker is even more so, makes it a extremely weak cutter and that's all a knife this size is for. I was extremely disappointed with the design and ergonomics, and this is after I made a custom jade g10 thicker handle so it has the best grip this knife allows. I highly do not recommend this knife, buy and izula or step up to something better from spyderco, fallkniven or brkt, there's a million better options even though on paper this looks like it should be excellent. Side note I'm loving my Becker bk5 I just think they missed the mark with this model.

It's a thermal plastic, heat it up with a hairdryer and mash it tighter
To help with the sheath rattle, insert a piece of phonebook paper in the sheath. Also, there have been multiple reports of the sheath dulling the edge, so I put phonebook paper in the sheath of my Becker BK13.

my sheath that came with a lock tab on the side it flips up or down but it locks in there good
Love mine, but I have Been using my Tops MIL-SPIE 3 a lot lately. I really like the 154CM, even if it is a little thick for its size. Would like to see you do a review on one.
You right about that it definitely isn't cheap. Thanks.
Where did you get one made of D2? I’ve bought three over ten years and they all were made of 1095 high carbon.
Sorry to bother but I'm confused,, is the spine 90 degrees? Id like to buy this knife, but id feel alot better spending the money if it was a 90 degree spine
Virtuovice says that 'sheath is a crap'. It has fiberglass in it that dulls the knife's edge.
Sweet little rig. I will have to check it out.
***** Yea I really like it. Just wish there wasn't that rattle in the sheath. -Krik
I have the same knife and my sheath is actually pretty great. I mounted mine on a TekLok and carry horizontal in the front, 9 months edc. and still no issues, no worries of losing the knife. Battle Horse Knives #5 Sheath belt, dangler or necker fits the BK 14 and BK 24
Turns it in to a belt knife

you should do a side by side between this and the izula
Top Notch

Black Owl Outdoors Yeah, I sharpened them with my Work Sharp, I get a nice sharp Vexed edge

dude i bought Izula scales and the fit perfectly, what you talking about sir?!

Looks like a pretty decent knife. I like it
-Jacko
Has the sheath been fixed for 2015 or STILL dulls blade?
Hello, try the cold steel Mini Hunter, its a great knife.
Is it D2 or CPM D2?
can you sharpen a Mora as sharp as this Kabar?
Nice blade but yeah sheath has got to go. How is it as a neck knife? Thanks.
I like it for a neck knife. I just really want to get a new sheath. I plan to make a leather neck sheath for it, but I need to buy thinner leather first, and that stuff isn't cheap. -Krik
Anyone have any other good suggestions for neck knifes?
Nice review - as always they are pleasure to watch.
armchair quarterbacking a bit - beware ;) ... I must say that the edge angle seems to high to effective shave wood and make feathersticks. I have the ESEE Izula and it makes feathers nicely with a modified grind. I previously owned the Eskabar and Becker Necker too.
I'm looking for a smaller secondary knife for lighter camp work and thinking about getting a mora or this. Which do you recommend?
+phoenixstudiodesign The Mora will be hands down more comfortable to use for an extended time.
I have mora bushcraft orange, it was 30 dollars cheaper than the black, but its features identical, plus the orange has better chances of being found if you misplace it on the forest floor. Also have a mora pro s, it was 12 dollars, and its excellent

Mine doesnt rattle in the sheath like yours
Good knife to have in a sticky situation ya know.
What are those shoes? Look like minimalist?
They're New Balance. We did a video on them a while ago. I don't remember the model name. -Krik
Is there a video about the hamock?
N1ght3d Yep, one of our first videos. ua-cam.com/video/w-rQWJlT6uA/v-deo.html
A Review on the ESEE Izula 2 !!
We've been talking about purchasing and doing a video on the Izula 2. Stay tuned. -Krik
Cool man thanks ;D
BlackOwlOutdoors
Definitely. I have one and it's the highest quality knife I've seen.
definitely worth replacing the sheath, its glass reinforced nylon, not plastic so it dulls the blade very badly. i forget the channel name but there have been tests running the blade along this vs kydex and the difference is night and day
Huge thumbs up for using the metric system
The blade looks a little longer than the BK14.
I got mine for $46 at a gun store

I will gladly buy it off you sir
What's a neck knife
A lightweight fixed blade knife worn around the neck with a lanyard or piece of paracord.
Thanks!

Becker has issues with there sheaths. Idk what it is about them but they all seem to rattle.
I went into the woods and was disappointed that it didn't look as pretty as it does in your videos.
Don’t start a fire on a rock!
In my opinion, BK-14 performs as good as this one. I'll state with bk14. Nice video. Gracias
mmmmm. SHOVE LEATHER IN TO IT. just saying leather will stop the noise.
oooo or just heat it up as everyone else says. just how I would have done it anyway.
It's a large production knife so you cant get them perfect. If you dont want rattle then buy something that's simi custom like a tops with a kydex sheath.
Knife rattle in a sheath, BFD. Use a hairdryer for a few seconds. All these kids and their metrics.
Ain't it to big for a neck knive?

Those seem like pretty good points. I'd kinda like a knife in this size and steel category. Small, rather thin , but tough and beatery.
