There are still a few concerns. For example what would happen if it gets dropped face down and happens to land on a small piece of rock or a screw? Would the entire screen just die off, or would it be limited to a small patch near the point of impact? In the latter case, would touch functionality survive? I own a Flip3 and an LG V60 with the second screen and use both. I often throw the V60, folded backwards (with both screens exposed) into the same pocket as my wallet and keychain; but when using the Flip3 I always close it up properly and give it its own pocket. And that’s the problem. Most units of these foldables will probably serve two or three years and die off because the batteries don’t work as well, but they still require their users to treat them with an added level of care and precaution, and this is not likely to change without significant advances in material sciences.
@@THEJPR the extent of the damage is the concern here. My old S8 survived a brutal hit on the panel three years ago, the drop killed a patch of pixels near the point of impact. The touch functionality survived. I've been intermittently using it ever since, and in the three years the dead area has not grown and it still works fine. Well, that’s just physics. Harder materials are more resistant to breaking, but they shatter more easily. The inner display is super soft and scratches extremely fast, but it won’t shatter when glass would.
Some folks just don't have the patience dealing with that extra step of unfolding a phone. But I would waste that extra 1-2 seconds just to have that extra layer of protection.
Foldables especially clamshells/flip phones are the most durable form factors. Closing mechanism protects the main screen. Like doing a drop test with a turtle. 🐢
It's pretty good for the design that it is. The problem with dropping happens, when you don't have a flat sidewalk tile, or steel, but you have the same with a small stone, and the screen smashes with with concentrated force in that one spot, where the sharp stone is.
