There are still a few concerns. For example what would happen if it gets dropped face down and happens to land on a small piece of rock or a screw? Would the entire screen just die off, or would it be limited to a small patch near the point of impact? In the latter case, would touch functionality survive?
I own a Flip3 and an LG V60 with the second screen and use both. I often throw the V60, folded backwards (with both screens exposed) into the same pocket as my wallet and keychain; but when using the Flip3 I always close it up properly and give it its own pocket. And that’s the problem. Most units of these foldables will probably serve two or three years and die off because the batteries don’t work as well, but they still require their users to treat them with an added level of care and precaution, and this is not likely to change without significant advances in material sciences.

My old S8 survived a brutal hit on the panel three years ago, the drop killed a patch of pixels near the point of impact. The touch functionality survived. I've been intermittently using it ever since, and in the three years the dead area has not grown and it still works fine. Would foldable screens behave similarly, or would the damage be more substantial?

When I drop my phone it always hits the corners first. So I would love to see a drop test where it lands on the corners.

Could you try dropping it with the port-side facing down, when the device is open? Wonder how it will absorb this kind of force

Very cool drop test. Nice to know that the phone doesn't fall apart like a house of cards.
PS. That isn't a screen protector that's supposed to come off. Probably exactly why those pixels died.

Now that I have seen s21 ultra vs iPhone 13 drop test, its safe to say that Zfold 3 is one of the most durable premium smartphones ( I never doubted its durability ).

I usually never drop my phones, but accidents happen, and of course NEVER use my devices without a case, normal case I mean, no those OtterBox brick like cases, and after watching this I feel more confident about the durability of the fold 3 that is going to be delivered to me at the end of this month.
    Thank you.

It's physics! When you drop with the hinge completely open the phone takes less pressure than when it's just one of the screens colliding the steel or the concrete

    • @tRiXMaddy
      @tRiXMaddy 3 роки тому

Truth, safer on hinge than not, plus on the hinge between the actual hinge and what we see is a chunk of aluminum so the hinge is unaffected

Most hinge failures occur from a drop on the corner of the hinge.

Me watching on my Z fold 3, my heart kept beating fast per drop test.
But seriously, after having the phone for a while, it really is sturdy and has a great build quality even with the moving parts.
Looks like they polished this model by build and experience from the Z fold 1 and 2.
Samsung's engineering team definitely did some magic with the Samsung Z Fold 3.

My Z fold 3 comes in tomorrow, super excited. But too with most drop tests they don’t show “real world drops”. You sit down on a chair or jump...your phone slips out of your pocket and lands on the pavement. It’s done

Every Z Fold 3 comes with an already installed screen protector for the front and the inside screens. You should've tested it with the screen protector on the outside imo. Also they allow a 1 time free of charge replacement at any authorized repair store.

it's gonna dent it or shatter the screen because all the impact force is concentrated in a tiny surface area

  • @NINJA_INVESTORS

The inner display is more of a plastic screen so it's more impact resistant and less scratch resistant
