I never understand Z fold/flip. Whats the purpose of that phone? Its just more work to open and close, its also thick to carry. Why not just buy a tablet for big screen?

    • @phoenixyt124

Didn’t you got the chance yet to hold a fold and flip? The hinge is super super strong, and i can say from experience, the hinge doesn’t even come lose after many flips… or folds.

@@fynkozari9271 I've had one for a week now and I genuinely dont think I could ever go back to a regular phone again. It makes WAY more sense. It's extra thickness is made up for its smaller size.
It's so much more smaller and comfortable to carry. I don't feel a massive rectangle in my pocket.
It was nearly impossible to ride my motorcycle for example.
But with this form factor it's so small.
It doesn't take extra time at all to flip it open. It's not annoying if that's what you think.
This form factor just makes so much sense.
The screen is protected when it's folded which is 90% of the time where as other phones they're just exposed.
The way it folds away into a small square and all the cool uses you can get with that Like a built in stand, taking selfies with main camera, checking notifications etc. Without even opening phone.
It also makes a perfect Gameboy Afvance SP for playing Pokemon lol
I literally find a new use for the form factor every day that makes me go "WOAH THAT MAKES SO MUCH SENSE!"

I said the same thing on your z fold 3 drop test video and I'll say it again, being such a heavy decide and being dropped half open on the hinge and still managing to not open fully and stay at the angle shows the effort Samsung has put into these phones. Yes they might not be taking the biggest leaps in terms of hardware but they've definitely perfected the recipe.

Samsung's hardware blows every other foldable competition out of the water, I have no idea what you mean. Actually, I think I do know what you mean.
When you say hardware here, I think you're talking about the thickness of phone and the crease in the middle, which the Chinese OEMs are doing better with.
Don't ever judge an electronic gadget by how it looks on the outside. For Chinese OEMs, they skipped a lot of important features to achieve that "perfect ratio." Their phones won't even function properly in many dire situations. Also, their hinge engineering is so pathetic.

    • @dankmemes8619
      @dankmemes8619 2 роки тому +1

@@trstnhn I agree. I don't disagree when people say Samsung pulled an apple here with their design, sure it's practically just the fold3 but better, but that's an entirely different situation here. These are folding phones, not shitty rectangular slabs. Finding what works best for the current tech without sacrificing everything to "change it up we need to be on the cutting edge of tech!" Is stupid. So them trying to do the fold3 but better in every way is acceptable here.
Now if they did it again for the fold5 and fold6, then yes there will be some issues, but fucking hell give Samsung a year to breathe.
Also this is coming from someone who thinks Samsung's main phones have gotten stale.

The drop test is great, at the end customer cares about repairability of an device more than the drop that is my opinion.
You can also start repairability series in which you take your tested phone to smartphone manufacturers and ask them to repair your broken and then you can rate them how good or bad their service was and the availability or how repairable this smartphone would be.

The thing to note here is, whatever damage to the glass the phones took upon their first and second drops, are what caused the next few cracks to appear regardless of what "angle" and height because the glass areas had already been compromised by the second drops.
So anything after the 2nd drop is just them trying to break the phones because the results are not conclusive due to the compromised structure of the glass.
That's like smacking a car windshield with a baseball bat twice and then expecting it to survive after the 2nd smash.

Nah, the hinge is not as durable as the video makes it seem. My gf and I both have the flip 4 and both of us dropped our phone on the hinge (at an angle, mind you, something not tested in the video) and the phone no longer opened past 90 degrees. Mine even lost responsiveness in the upper screen (I could see buttons but couldn't press them). I dropped mine onto a carpeted floor, too.
Ended up getting mine fixed through Asurion (or U Break I Fix, whatever it's called) since it was under warranty, but hers had a small scratch on the hinge from something else so Samsung voided her warranty because of that, which was absolute crap. She had to pay $500 to get it fixed. Everyone we talked to in the process said that a ton of other were having the same or similar issues with the phone. Turns out the ribbon in the phone attached to the hinge was defective and Samsung actually sent out a new version of the ribbon to fix the issue, but I don't know if or when they started putting those into the new phones they sold.
For future videos like this, please drop it onto the hinge at a variety of angles. I like the phone overall, and if I see some evidence that future phones are less fragile, I might get the newer versions too. I just need to see more evidence of its durability, personally.

Great testing and in you’re analysis you seem to try and avoid baseless assumptions. If you slow the slow mo down more or even pause at the point of impact (since you’re not using a phantom or the like) and perhaps add a graphic to identify where each one hit, they would add a lot for viewers. I might check if you have a video explaining your testing methods (seems like you would) and how well your rig maintains uniformity with the drops - which is especially hard with these phones.

Yeah they also need to improve the amount of times you can flip the phone…because from what I’ve seen the phone stops working after you reach a certain amount of times that you’ve opened and closed the phone. And I think a phone that can’t stand the test of time and repeat usage is kind of problematic. But perhaps I’m wrong?
