You guys need to check out the funky blues side of zztop BROWN SUGAR, JUST GOT BACK FROM BABYS,OLD MAN,BLUE JEAN BLUES, AND THE LIVE VERSION OF BACK DOOR LOVE AFFAIR FROM THE FANDANGO ALBUM
You want a bluesy ZZ Top song... do "Blue Jean Blues". Want some bouncy bass and kick drum... do "Velcro Fly" or "Sleeping Bag". You want attitude "I'm Bad, I'm Nationwide".
Gotta listen to 'Nationwide'! I had a friend who was not from Texas and had never heard of ZZ Top. And I was like "How can you not have heard of ZZ? They're Nationwide!!"
ZZ Top is one of those bands that just oozes fun & party music! Tush, La Grange, Just Got Paid, Francine, Waitin' for the Bus/Jesus Just Left Chicago, Heard it on the X (my favorite - 2 minutes+ of killer guitar riff in a song about Mexican "border blaster" radio stations that sent their signals way into the U.S. throughout Texas & several surrounding states), Balinese, Arrested for Driving While Blind, She Loves My Automobile, A Fool for Your Stockings, I Thank You (a cover of an r&b hit by Sam & Dave from the 60s), Party on the Patio, so many more...!
I remember my mom, always with her "turn that crap off" when I listened to non-religious music, or rock music, but I knew I had a secret weapon against that when it was ZZ Top. I said "You know mom, this is ZZ Top, and they're from Texas", and then next she would just stop saying that and groove to the sounds. It always worked when it was a band or an artist from Texas, because my mom was from San Antonio, Texas. I miss my mom.
ZZ Top invented their own sound from blues roots. The docu on Netflix was really interesting in outlining how that classic ZZ Top riff and sound came to exist. So many great tunes from this band. Keep diggin'.
One of my ZZ top favorites for driving drums and bass is "Under Pressure". It has always been a banger and the drums kick you from the first beat!!! Give it a listen, pure ZZ but Frank Beard is driving the whole song. You will love it!!!
One of the deepest rabbit holes out there if you just want some good times and fantastic music. La Grange, Tush, Pearl Necklace, Sleeping Bag, Sharp Dressed Man, and on and on. SO many great tunes
ZZ Top does Texas Blues proud. They follow in the footsteps of Johnny Winters, SRV, Jimmy Vaughn, Edgar Winters. They play Texas Blues unapologetically.
It is so cool to see the younger generations rocking out to same music that I have been rocking to my whole life....Music can bring everyone together, and I love to see it.
Dirty Dog, Thug, Ten foot pole, manic mechanic, Hot Blue an Righteous, Layla These are must listens if you wanna feel the full scope of what is ZZ TOP!
This comes from one of their best albums...."Deguello", which was on my turntable constantly in college! I even had a "Cheap Sunglasses " party! Yep, you had to wear the cheesiest you could find for admission! Another song you will LOVE from this album is "I'm Bad, I'm Nationwide"!
They've been my absolute favorite band of all time since back in the 70s. The first time I saw them in concert was their Eliminator tour January 29th 1984. Never heard a ZZ-Top song I didn't like.
I saw them that tour... Sammy Hagar opened when I was there, filming pieces for his "Heavy Metal" video. I was up front, deaf fir two days after, and so faded I don't recall getting home.
The pocket on this song is insane. The “little bitty notes” your talking about are what I would refer to as tasteful dynamic note selection and not overplaying the part.
You guys are really growing in your musical observations...im proud of you both..ive loved this band since the 70s...and I have seen them live many times..
Always felt that ZZ Top and AC/DC went to the same school in different countries. They both understand the power of a good riff and both know that rock starts with the blues.
"But what really knocked me out was her cheap sunglasses"! LOL! Love this song! Texas Blues Rock rules! Another Texas band you should check out is Los Lonely Boys. I love Cottonfields and Crossroads, Sueno Mal (Crazy Dream) which they do in three versions; entirely in Spanish, entirely in English, and mixed (Live at the Fillmore). With Onda you might think you're listening to Carlos Santana. For many of their songs I would stick to the studio versions as the concert versions can get quite long. Onda runs 25 minutes. Los Lonely Boys are the Brothers Garza, Jojo, Henry, and Ringo. They had a big hit with Heaven which they wrote about their grandmother passing away.
The interesting thing about this song is that Billy Gibbon's amplifier had a blown tube (electronics) and he decided to just go with it. It gives a distinct sound.
Billy Gibbons is the tone master, Deguello's full of funky tones. Whole albums great. I'm Bad I'm Nationwide would be great reaction song. Fool for Your Stockings is great slow cooking blues song.
ZZ Top were the band that got me into rock back in the 80s, and one of the best if not the best gig I've ever been to was when they played a fairly small city hall over here in the UK - they normally play big stadiums but this was a pretty small venue. Billy Gibbons even took a walk round the local shopping mall and appeared in the local paper posing for a picture with a somewhat surprised local fan! 😀 My vote goes to My Head's In Mississippi - classic Top 😎👍
So glad you've touched back onto ZZTop. They are outrageous in every way... all good. Love, love, love them. Bit of ZZ trivia... they played at a local high school prom in my hometown (Orange, TX) back in the day. Can you imagine??!! The year was 1970 and I was only 9 years old, so I missed out on prom but it's been locally legendary ever since. I have seen them in concert though. They bring it live!!! Keep up the great reactions. You guys are too much fun. Big Texas sized hugs to you both.
Lol local high school Fernandina Beach HS here in Florida back in the day had .38 Special and Lynyrd Skynyrd.......if I remember right the ticket price listed was only like 5 or 10 bucks
J & Amber, you will LOVE "My Head's In Mississippi"... It may not be at the top of your list, so you may not get to it for weeks or months, but I guarantee you'll be asking yourselves, "Why did we wait so long to get to THIS one?"
I read an article where Jimi Hendrix said that Billy Gibson is one of the greatest guitar players that he knows...quite a great compliment from maybe the greatest guitar player ever.
This was my first time on y’all’s channel. One of my favorites is a fool for your stockings by ZZ Top. A different vibe on the track but y’all gotta hear that southern soul in it. Much love🖤
Amber, “ She’s like a Rainbow “ by The Rolling Stones.. it a song for inner groove for souls like ares. I may be 60 and you in your 20s but the groovy souls we are same.. lovelovelove ❤️🌸✌🏻
As a teen in the70's..ZZ Top and Lynyrd Skynyrd was my top two bands! First concert i went to was ZZ in 1979 in Knoxville Tennessee! ..Deguello was the album this and other songs they had radio play with..Love em! Thanks guys!!!
You know zz top is a band of 3 and they put out a wall of sound. Its a drummer and the 2 brothers after 40 years of music they still bring it at concerts. Really!!!!
Love ZZ, first headliner I ever saw,1983, and then not again til their 40th anniversary tour. I saw them twice on that tour. They were at the same casino Summer outside and Winter inside.
They did a bit of John Lee Hooker, with "Boom Boom Boom". John Lee Hooker was the one in the street, in "The Blues Brothers", singing "Boogie Chillen". "Hau, Hau, Hau, Hau!"
Does anyone else hear a similarity (musically) between this song and The Edgar Winter Group song Frankenstein... Just saying...lol Peace and love to all from your friendly neighbor from the north.... 😎🙏❤️🇨🇦
Good catch on that outro lead guitar playing. Always loved the little short crunchy licks too. Deguelo is a great album. Lowdown in the Street is a cool song on it that gets overlooked.
I especially like how Dustie Hill drives everything on this song with his bass. it's just very good blues rock that gets under your skin! Greetings @all from Hamburg ( Germany)
In 1999 they released their album XXX, for their thirtieth year as a band. Two songs you will want to hear off of it are Belt Buckle and an amazing cover of Elvis' Teddy Bear.
The term for the short notes w a lot of attack and no sustain that Jay was digging is 'staccato' - the great Billy Gibbons gives a clinic on it in this outro! Another great reaction guys :)
You two rock! Thanks so much for this reaction video. I am 61 years old and it is always refreshing to see a younger generation appreciating the golden age of rock music. Keep up the great work. Love your office, by the way. That picture of Jimi Hendrix is a killer!
Great reaction! Their song Rough Boy was a bit of a slow ballad for them but it’s a great song on the Afterburner album, but Sleeping Bag is definitely something y’all should check out.
This jam is a 100% Definite Playlist tune for anyone a fan of Rock & or the Blues. Billy Gibbons is a Rock/Blues Guitar God! His riffs and solos are so raw, funky, dirty & groovy all in one!!! Legends forever. Rest in Power Dusty!!!
Hells yeah!! This cut is from my all-time favorite album DEGUELLO. I think it's from 79....and you can't go wrong with anything from this album! The first four or 5 albums by ZZ TOP are just great!! 🤘
ZZ Top .amazing 3 man band , Billy Gibbons on Guitar very underrated , Frank Beard on Drums , and the Great Dusty Hill on Bass ( R.I.P. ) , both Billy & Dusty took turn singing lead on songs
J & Amber, you'll love their "Legs" and"Tube Snake Boogie" !!
Also pearl necklace which is the best song about jewelry ive ever heard
@@mrtoad8585 every guy loves to give their lady a pearl necklace! 🤣
Wait until they find out what the "Tube Snake Boogie" is, LOL!
I also say Tush and Blue Jean Blues. They have a ton of great music.

You gotta give props to Frank Beard, the drummer. His fill ins and overall playing is awesome!
Totally !!! Very underrated ... His playing if perfect for this band... I can imagine anyone else coming up with those drum parts.
You want a bluesy ZZ Top song... do "Blue Jean Blues". Want some bouncy bass and kick drum... do "Velcro Fly" or "Sleeping Bag". You want attitude "I'm Bad, I'm Nationwide".
My favorites always been “Brown Sugar” from ‘One Foot in the Blues’
Velcro Fly fucking sucks lol

Them stations must've had Hella power !
For good Texas blues, ZZ-Top's songs "Somebody Else Has Been Shaking Your Tree", "Brown Sugar" and "Blue Jean Blues" are solid songs!
Great story!

I saw them last Tuesday night and they started the show with Under Pressure!!!
Frank Beard doesn't get enough credit for how great of a drummer he is
TV Dinners is another classic ZZ Top song that gets overlooked.
One of the deepest rabbit holes out there if you just want some good times and fantastic music. La Grange, Tush, Pearl Necklace, Sleeping Bag, Sharp Dressed Man, and on and on. SO many great tunes
I like the way ZZ Top will just pick a random object and make a song about it. Like Cheap sunglasses, or Sleeping Bag, or TV Dinners. All great songs
Love "TV Dinners"! Such a cool song.
Or Pearl Necklaces.
Don't forget the burger slinger at the drive-in, with "Burgerman"...
ZZ Top always gives a fabulous tune. Good old rock style. Can't go wrong.
Great reaction. Buckets of Maple Syrup love from Canada ❤️❤️ 🇨🇦 🇨🇦
Ah yes! From the land where syrup is a food group! LOL
1979 and never dies! Many rappers have sampled this song and I believe they will continue. So many riffs.
ZZ Top does Texas Blues proud. They follow in the footsteps of Johnny Winters, SRV, Jimmy Vaughn, Edgar Winters. They play Texas Blues unapologetically.
Billi Gibbons (Guitar/Vocals) of ZZtop was the idol for Jimmi Hendrix. Jimmi Hendrix gave him a pink Stratocaster as a gift.
Hard to believe all this sound came from three guys. Thanks for playing one of my favorites of all time.
On this song I believe there is a forth playing keyboards.
ZZ Top are Classic! One song I love I don’t see many reactions to is *”BEER DRINKERS AND HELLRAISERS”* ZZ are Gangster! 😂🍻🍻😎
You're Like Oxygen Brother,, You're Everywhere 🤪 Truly Hope That Life Finds You Well & Smiling.
Their worst song.
It is so cool to see the younger generations rocking out to same music that I have been rocking to my whole life....Music can bring everyone together, and I love to see it.
I’m from Texas, definitely sending some Love to ZZTop!!!
Dirty Dog, Thug, Ten foot pole, manic mechanic, Hot Blue an Righteous, Layla These are must listens if you wanna feel the full scope of what is ZZ TOP!
10th grade 1980.. this music was my definition of cool. You're 💯 right about the little bitty notes. All taste and restraint. Tiiiight!
RECORDED IN the summer of 1979 And RELEASED In Nov 1979 Its 70s
The "short notes" are made by muting the strings at the bridge of the guitar with the palm of your hand it's called "palm muting".
The pocket on this song is insane. The “little bitty notes” your talking about are what I would refer to as tasteful dynamic note selection and not overplaying the part.

Ya, I like Los Lonely Boys. I'd like see them react to Mas Y Mas , live by Los Lobos, I think the one I mean is Austin City Limits...
The interesting thing about this song is that Billy Gibbon's amplifier had a blown tube (electronics) and he decided to just go with it. It gives a distinct sound.
I saw ZZ Top in concert about 10 years ago. Great show.
I'm Bad, I'm Nationwide is my favorite ZZ Top song.
Billy Gibbons is the tone master, Deguello's full of funky tones. Whole albums great. I'm Bad I'm Nationwide would be great reaction song. Fool for Your Stockings is great slow cooking blues song.
You chose correctly for
down home rock blues..... !!!
So gritty.... Funny....and a song for
the car stereo.... Gr8 tune!!!
Billy Gibbons riffed most of his songs using a mexican peso to pick instead of a regular guitar pick. Giving ZZ Top one of their unique sounds.
😳no way!?? Interesting fact thank you!😎👍
@@franciscoramirez4179 Yes. Listen closely to his guitar and you can hear a distinctive twang when he uses a peso to play.
Great song. Great band. Great reaction. I love ZZ Top and this is one of their best songs. Kudos on finding a good quality upload of this song.
My brother just saw them last weekend and said they still have it!
Just rock! I love this old, basic, rock sound, nothing to flashy or overdone, just a good bluesy rockin sound
ZZ Top were the band that got me into rock back in the 80s, and one of the best if not the best gig I've ever been to was when they played a fairly small city hall over here in the UK - they normally play big stadiums but this was a pretty small venue. As a 3 man band, they could really support a big show well, but were wa-ay better in small, intimate places.
I got to see Kiss in concert and ZZ Top! I don't think I realized how lucky I was! I got to enjoy both today through you two! Thank you!
Jimmy hendrix said Billy gibbons was his favorite guitar player, he described Billy's playing as having bounce.

ZZ TOP "Blue Jean Blues" & "Asleep In The Desert" 🏜
Eyyyy there he is!! Just saw your comment! LOL. Yes I’ve been known to move around a bit! 😂 I hope all is well brother! 😎👊
Another one of them is " Thank You "
One of those bands that literally invented their own genre
That album is pure gold. One of my favorites is Manic Mechanic. Rock on, homies.
Tejas and Deguello were two of my favorite ZZ Top albums. They were just starting to get commercial, but still retained their gritty edge.
Ahhhhh......good 'ol cheap sunglasses. Good times ...good People. God Bless.
